00:00The election period for the 2025 midterm polls just kicked off simultaneously with its twin
00:05directive, the poll body's firearm ban. And in less than 48 hours, the latter has yielded 30
00:12violators, 80 guns and over 500 rounds of ammunition as Orion Lasigas hashes over more
00:18details in this report. More than 30 individuals have been arrested by the Philippine National
00:25Police or PNP for carrying firearms during the second day of the nationwide election gun ban
00:30implementation. According to PNP spokesperson and PRO3 Regional Director, Police Brigadier
00:35General Gene Fajardo, 26 of those arrested are civilians, three are security guards,
00:40one an appointed government official from the Bangsamoro Ministry and another one a soldier.
00:46The PNP has also confiscated a total of 80 firearms since the implementation of the
00:50nationwide gun ban. Most of these firearms were seized in Central Luzon, with a total of 19.
00:5614 came from Cagayan Valley and 9 from Western Visayas. In addition, the PNP also seized gun
01:03replicas, ammunition and explosives. The Komelag checkpoints were initiated by the PNP at midnight
01:09last Sunday, signaling the official start of the election period and gun ban for the 2025 elections.
01:15The checkpoints will be established in strategic locations, especially at night.
01:19The plain view doctrine will be enforced during inspections, meaning vehicles cannot be searched
01:24unless the police has reasonable grounds or information that it poses a security threat.
01:49To ensure legitimacy, a large sign is placed several meters away from the checkpoint to slow
02:03down vehicles. The checkpoint itself must be in a well-lit area and visible to many people.
02:09Police nameplates and details on the signage must be legible or readable.
02:19Over 1,400 Komelag checkpoints will be set up across the country. This number may increase
02:39depending on the security threat level in a given area, according to Komelag Ryan Liziguez.
