00:00The Philippine National Police defended a legal and vigorous campaign against Loose Firearms,
00:06the revitalized Oplan Katok, while continuing to lower the crime rate in Manila.
00:11This is what Ryan Lesillas reported.
00:15We will not trample the rights of our citizens,
00:20especially those who are a bit afraid to use PNP in politics and violence.
00:28The PNP has no such intention.
00:30A legal and vigorous campaign against Loose Firearms, the revitalized Oplan Katok.
00:35This is what the Philippine National Police defended,
00:37while continuing to lower the crime rate in Manila and stopping the commission on elections.
00:43According to PNP Chief Police General Rommel Francisco Marvil,
00:46there is no threat to their campaign because what they are doing here is personal,
00:51which the police are reminding the gun owners not to violate their obligations.
00:56In particular, the renewal of their license to own and possess firearms,
01:01or else the gun owners will not be able to dispose of their firearms to the PNP,
01:07if they do not renew their license.
01:09According to the PNP Chief Police General,
01:11the PNP regularly uses the Oplan Katok,
01:14including the Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
01:20We are hopeful and the PNP is willing to step down and discuss this issue with the Comelec.
01:28And the common denominator of the PNP and the Comelec is to come up with a guidelines
01:39that the PNP can achieve its objective to make sure that we can account for all the Loose Firearms.
01:46The PNP also claims that their priority is the safety of the public
01:50and that they will never give in to any politician.
01:54Marvil also called the fear of some that the Oplan Katok can be used in a bad way during the election period.
02:02Meanwhile, the crime rate in Metro Manila continues to fall.
02:05According to the PNP, 19.61% of the crime rate is indexed as crimes against persons and property in January.
02:13451 incidents were reported in the first month of 2025, which is lower compared to 561 in the same month of 2024.
02:24Among the major decrease are cases of rape, physical injuries, homicide, murder, and theft.
02:31According to the NCRPO, the decrease in the crime rate is a reflection of the PNP's continuous call to make the public safe.
02:39From Kampok Rame, Ryan Lisigues for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
