00:00What brought me to this job, it's probably a longer story than we have time for, but
00:06this wasn't the career I had envisioned, but I do feel like it's the one that I was born
00:12for.
00:13I somewhat tripped and fell into law enforcement.
00:15It was somebody else's idea and it just stuck and it's felt right ever since and that's
00:20why I'm here.
00:21For nearly 24 years, Captain Adam Ferguson has served his community at the West Lafayette
00:25Police Department.
00:27Now, the city has announced he'll be leading that agency.
00:30My focus will be on the people that are in this building because they're the ones who
00:35serve the people that are out of this building, so I look forward to being the best steward
00:40that I can for our agency to continue the tradition of professionalism that we've enjoyed
00:46at the West Lafayette Police Department.
00:47Captain Ferguson says his personal philosophy of policing came from Sir Robert Peel, who
00:52he quoted as saying, the people are the police and the police are the people.
00:57Sir Robert Peel's vision was that civilians, people who live in the community, have the
01:03say in how their community stays safe and how we enforce our laws and handle disagreements
01:12and I believe that and I believe that's what we do and that's what we're going to continue
01:15to do in West Lafayette.
01:17The city has not shared details of when Captain Ferguson's swearing in will happen just yet,
01:22but we'll keep you updated.
01:23Congratulations, Captain Ferguson.
