Gaza rebuild will be costly

Many parts of Gaza have been destroyed and reconstruction would cost billions, the former president of the UNGA Mogens Lykketoft says.  #Gaza #Israel

00:05of Israeli soldiers, we think, what happens then? Because I mean, there's going to be a huge

00:11rebuilding operation in Gaza, and that's going to cost billions of dollars. Where's that money

00:17going to come from? Yes, that's a very good question, because we seldom saw such a total

00:24destruction of a society like what has happened in Gaza. I think it's 70-80% of all buildings

00:31destroyed, all infrastructure, water, electricity. It will take very many billions, as you rightly

00:38pointed out, to make just a minimum of workability to a civil society in Gaza again.

00:48And I hope that the international community will stand up. I hope that the Arab nations

00:55in solidarity will join here, not only with financial support,

01:01take the international organizations, we have international banks and so on,

01:08and to contribute. But I think also it's important that there is, as I understand it,

01:14the willingness from major countries in the Arab world to supply a kind of

01:21protection force for Gaza at the end of the process.
