00:36A popular mall chain dismisses a security guard after a video surfaced showing him forcibly
00:40shooing away a young girl selling sampaguita garlands outside the mall.
00:45In a video posted on YouTube, the guard is seen trying to convince a girl in school uniform
00:49to leave an entryway into SM Mega Mall in Mandaluyong City.
00:53But the girl stays put.
00:54The security guard then grabs the garlands from her hand and ruins some of them.
00:58The girl retaliates by hitting the guard with the remaining garlands.
01:02The guard tries to kick her, but it's unclear if he makes contact.
01:05SM Mega Mall condemns the incident, expressing regret and emphasizing inclusivity.
01:09It also says the guard and his agency are under investigation, and he will no longer
01:13work at any SM mall.
01:16The incident has sparked mixed reactions online.
01:19Some criticized the guard's actions as inhumane, while others said he must have been exhausted
01:23and under pressure to do his job.
01:27Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza that mediators say will take effect
01:31on Sunday, January 19.
01:33The ceasefire, mediated by Qatar, Egypt and the US, involves a six-week truce and the
01:38gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces.
01:41In return, hostages held by Hamas would be released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners
01:45held by Israel.
01:46But despite celebrations in Gaza and Israel, Palestine residents and officials say Israel's
01:51military escalated attacks, killing at least 70 people in Gaza.
01:56Residents say strikes continued on early Thursday, destroying homes in Rafah, Nusirat and northern
02:01Gaza.
02:02Israel's military did not immediately comment, and there are no reports of Hamas attacks
02:05on Israel after the ceasefire announcement.
02:09English author Neil Gaiman denies allegations of sexual misconduct made by several women
02:14in a statement posted on his website on January 14.
02:17Gaiman says he has never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone.
02:22He also describes the accusations as either fabricated or distorted versions of actual
02:26events.
02:27The allegations, detailed in a New York Magazine story titled There Is No Safe Word, involves
02:32eight women who claim to have been sexually assaulted by Gaiman.
02:35One of the women, Scarlett Pavlovich, accuses him of assaulting her during a visit to his
02:39home in New Zealand in 2022.
02:41Pavlovich claims Gaiman invited her to take a bath in his garden, which she accepted,
02:46only to see him join her in the tub and sexually assault her.
02:49Gaiman rejects the notion of abuse, stating his relationship with the women were consensual.
02:53Gaiman, however, admits he regrets being careless with people's hearts and feelings in his relationships.
02:59Meantime, the allegations have impacted his career.
03:02Disney has paused the planned film adaptation of his novel, The Graveyard Book.
