00:38The August 21 movement, or ATOM, questions the release of new Peso bills that no longer
01:03feature the country's heroes.
01:04ATOM, the movement formed following the assassination of Senator Ninoy Aquino, argues the changes
01:09erase the memory of Philippine heroes.
01:12This after the Banco Central ng Pilipinas revealed the new Philippine banknote designs
01:16for the P500, P100, and P50 Peso bills.
01:20This completes the BSP's first Philippine polymer banknote series, which launched the
01:24new P1,000 bill in 2021.
01:27The new series now replaces the faces of Ninoy Aquino and the late President Cory Aquino
01:32with the Visayan spotted deer.
01:34Former Presidents Manuel Rojas and Sergio Osmeña's faces are replaced with the Palawan
01:39peacock pheasant and the Visayan leopard cat, respectively.
01:43In 2021, the government's removal of World War II heroes Jose Abad Santos, Jose Faelianes
01:48Escoda, and Vicente Lim's portraits from the P1,000 bill angered their families.
01:54The descendants said having banknotes commemorate heroes promotes heroism and honors those who
01:59fought for the country's rights and independence.
02:04The Department of Budget and Management increases contractual and job order workers' gratuity
02:09pay from P5,000 to P7,000.
02:12The DBM says the gratuity pay will be given on a prorated basis for those who have rendered
02:17less than four months of satisfactory service as of December 15.
02:21Of these, workers who served at least three months will receive up to P6,000, while those
02:26who served at least two months will receive up to P5,000.
02:30Workers who served for less than two months will receive up to P4,000.
02:35President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier said the government raised the service recognition
02:39incentive from P18,000 to P20,000 this year.
02:43The SRI is an annual financial incentive for well-performing government workers.
02:51The United Nations General Assembly adopts a resolution asking the International Court
02:55of Justice to intervene on Israel's obligations to facilitate aid to Palestinians.
03:00This, after Israel banned the UN Palestinian Refugee Agency's operations in the country,
03:06adding to obstacles UN agencies face in delivering aid to Gaza.
03:10A hundred and thirty-seven of the UNGA's 193 members voted to urge the ICJ to release an
03:16opinion on the issue.
03:18The U.S. and Israel are among the 12 members who voted against it.
03:22Twenty-two members abstained.
03:24The ICJ, or the World Court, is the United Nations' highest court.
03:28Its advisory opinions carry legal and political weight, although they are not binding.
03:33The court has no enforcement powers if its opinions are ignored.
03:37The UNGA resolution expressed, quote, "'grave concern' about the dire humanitarian situation
03:42in the Occupied Palestinian Territory."
03:45It calls upon Israel not to impede Palestinians from exercising their right to self-determination.
03:53UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson's alleged killer, Luigi Mangione, is charged with federal
03:58murder and stalking crimes in Manhattan on Thursday, December 19.
04:02The complaint accuses Mangione of spending months planning an attack driven by his contempt
04:07for the health insurance industry and wealthy corporate executives.
04:11Handcuffed and in a bright orange jumpsuit, Mangione is escorted off a helicopter in Lower
04:16Manhattan by a large group of police officers.
04:19A grand jury in New York earlier indicted Mangione on 11 counts of breaking state law,
04:25including first-degree murder and murder as an act of terrorism.
04:29The offenses are punishable by a maximum sentence of life in prison.
04:33Police say Mangione had multiple fake identification documents.
04:37These included a fake New Jersey ID that was used to check into a Manhattan hostel days
04:42before Thompson's shooting.
