00:002025 marks 90 years since the driving test was introduced in the UK, but back in December,
00:07Gov.uk reported that waiting times for a car practical driving test was nearly 21 weeks
00:13in England and 13 weeks in Wales.
00:16Furthermore, with an increased demand in pupils due to a backlog caused by the Covid pandemic,
00:21seven in ten instructors in England are closed to new pupils, making it more difficult for
00:26prospective students to find a driving instructor.
00:29The AA reported that 20% of driving instructors had actually increased their working hours
00:33and 15% anticipate that this backlog will persist for over a year.
00:38Now earlier in January, it was announced that the DVSA will recruit 450 new driving examiners
00:44to make more test slots available.
00:47The DVSA have also announced that there will be some changes to how a test is cancelled.
00:51Under the new rules, students will have to give at least 10 days notice to cancel their
00:56test without losing money, compared to the current three days.
