We hear more on what our beloved Dwyane Wade had to say on his podcast regarding Jimmy Butler's feud with the Heat. The guys discuss Wade's comments and how much they mirror the "Old Canes" calling out the "Newer Canes." Pat Riley will always win in the battle of stars.
Transcript
00:00D Wade, uh, his podcast on the Y network or his, his pockets is called
00:04the Y network with, uh, Daryl, right.
00:06And by Metallus, they were discussing his, uh, house
00:09divided amongst itself.
00:11Cannot stand.
00:11He said this at the press conference or at his, uh, his
00:14unveiling, his statue unveiling.
00:16He then posted this a couple of weeks ago and they discussed this last
00:20week, but they released it yesterday.
00:23Um, one of the big things that has been put out there is that Miami
00:28heat players, uh, that he will be able to get star players
00:31anymore because of this.
00:32Now.
00:32D Wade, I think on this, like does give the right description of what
00:37this has been looked upon because the heat, everybody in their rafters,
00:40it seems like they got a beef with at some point, Pat Riley's
00:42going to be for the star player.
00:44But, uh, he thinks that the notion that no one's going to come to Miami
00:47more is ridiculous, even with all this going on, but, uh, here's what
00:51Dwayne Wade had to say on the situation with the heat and Jimmy Butler.
00:56For one, I'm glad that we back to the culture.
00:59I was very happy when Pat came out last year and at the end of the season
01:03as a former player, Tim Hardaway came out and said, thank you.
01:05That's what we used to.
01:07Now I don't like nasty breakups.
01:11And I think what people need to understand is these
01:12relationships are relationships.
01:14And just like the relationships that we in the communication
01:18and these relationships suck.
01:20And that's the one thing about the league that really, um, that I didn't
01:23like, and I don't like is that no, we don't communicate very well.
01:26Um, so in this space with the heat, man, I don't know what's going to happen.
01:29And I don't want to comment on the trade, but I know what Jimmy
01:32Butler has done for the Miami heat.
01:34And it shouldn't have to be as ugly as it is right now.
01:38And I don't like this stain on our, on our organization.
01:40I don't like the fact that people feel that they can come in and talk about
01:43like that whole notion that people said, people, um, that because of
01:47Jimmy Butler's situation, how Pat Riley has handled things that guys
01:50are not going to come to Miami.
01:51Y'all can quit that right now.
01:53It ain't going to be a day that a basketball player, it ain't, ain't
01:56going to make $300 million to play in Miami.
01:58It will not be a day that you ain't going to raise your hand and go make
02:01300 million to be the star of Miami.
02:03So let's quit that narrative.
02:05Let's quit that narrative.
02:08There you go.
02:09Uh, but I do think it's, I think it's a proper description of it, Leroy.
02:12Like I do think that on the heats, it is a stain on the resume.
02:16Like it can't be ignored that these things have happened, but I don't, I
02:21don't necessarily believe the idea that this is going to handcuff them or, or
02:27deter their ability to ever lure anybody back down here.
02:30Here's the deal though.
02:32Here's the bigger, the bigger issue.
02:38When you look at both sides that he could be 90% wrong here in how they handled it.
02:47But Jimmy Butler has a history in every place that he's gone.
02:52And so that's how a lot of people may be looking at this.
02:59That being said, one of the things I hate about breakups and I've never done it.
03:09You break up, you broke, you broke up.
03:12Who cares?
03:13I don't need to make myself look good, or I don't need to
03:16make the other person look bad.
03:18It don't matter.
03:20You ain't together no more.
03:21So who cares?
03:24And I think what's going on here is instead of trying to get through it,
03:31everybody trying to look good and there is no way to look good.
03:35It's a breakup.
03:36Like D Wade said, it's a breakup.
03:38None of the stuff that has come out, like the role in the offense or the heat now
03:43being annoyed that Jimmy Butler takes private jets or stairs stays at Airbnb.
03:48He's like, Hey man, this stuff was going on.
03:50Like we all have Instagram.
03:52We know what was happening.
03:52Don't make it now seem like it's a thing.
03:54Like we know what it is.
03:56The heater making a business decision.
03:58The fact that you let it happen right back then, you know, it reminds me
04:03of what he complained about it.
04:04Now it reminds me of D Wade kind of feels right now.
04:08He reminds me of the old school canes when they like, they looked at all the
04:12guys from like younger generations.
04:15And it's like, yeah, but you're not, you're not doing all the
04:18stuff that it took to be the canes.
04:21Like you're not putting it all, you're wearing the uniform, but you're not
04:25really, you know, you're not really, you're not really understanding what it
04:29took to be that, and I feel like with the, with the heat, like, yeah, the heat
04:33getting to arguments with their star players and they butt heads with their
04:37star players, but everybody who does leave here, one of the big things with
04:42it is they say, I mean, like that everywhere else, you know, and, and I'm
04:49not saying Jimmy Butler's going to miss it because Jimmy Butler may be at a
04:52point in his life where he's like, all right, I tried a lot of things went our
04:57way, some things didn't, it was a hell of a, a five-year run, but you know, this
05:04is, but you know, now what his priority is, he feels like it's, it's an
05:07underappreciated thing.
05:08He's definitely had that sentiment of if you underappreciate me, I'm
05:12out, I don't deal with that, but in his mind, in his mind, he is, he feels that
05:20way, how could you be underappreciated?
05:25If one of the biggest issues that he'd had is you're not playing enough.
05:29Yeah.
05:30Well, I do think they're overappreciating you.
05:32I do think, well, I think Jimmy Butler making $50 million a year, the next two
05:36years, if he wants to, like even the NBA players, like dude, like that's not right.
05:43Like they're, nobody's looking at that and being like, Oh, poor Jimmy.
05:51Yeah, it is.
05:52And it's like, you hate that it comes down to like, Hey, all rich
05:55athlete and the fans can't relate.
05:56But dude, you can't like, people can't relate to that.
05:59You're unhappy making half a million dollars every game.
06:01What did you see?
06:03One of the list of grievances that are currently going viral on Jimmy Butler
06:06side that I seen the public is no remorse for, uh, Jimmy Butler's
06:13paycheck was late by 10 days.
06:14I did see that.
06:15Yeah.
06:15Chris Haynes reported his paycheck was late by 10 days and they, and then
06:19the heater, like, but it was a bank issue.
06:20Like it was, it was the bank.
06:21It was your bank's fault.
06:22I'm like, who cares?
06:26Who care?
06:28Are you serious?
06:29$500,000 check.
06:32Like you live in from check to check.
06:36How did he survive for those?
06:39I'm thinking, wow, me and Jimmy got the same problems, but I
06:43somehow think he's going to be okay.
06:45I think he'll be okay.
06:46I think he'd be okay.
06:47But like that, that is how petty we've gotten.
06:50Well, you guys missed a paycheck in July.
06:53All right.
06:54Where were, and where were you in Sweden at the time?
06:56Like, when did you, when did you notice this?
06:58When you were in Morocco, here's a D Wade giving us some flowers to
07:04Jimmy Butler, but it was like, Hey, you know, Pat's going to do what Pat Riley
07:08does to give Jimmy credit, man.
07:10Jimmy came in when they was losing the face of their franchise and
07:13became the face of the franchise.
07:15That's hard to do.
07:16He became a person that those kids want to buy his jersey, wear his
07:19jersey, you know what I'm saying?
07:21And so the relationship was the heat was a soft landing spot for Jimmy.
07:26And Jimmy was exactly the start of the heat needed for six years,
07:29finals, big moments that they've had together.
07:31It should not end.
07:34It's in there.
07:34Tragically, this is tragic.
07:36This is, this is a tragic way to end a relationship.
07:39And so as a former player, um, it's ugly on our franchise.
07:43It's a stain on our franchise that we continue to have these, the
07:47way that the relationships break up.
07:49But also too, on the other side, you don't run that organization as a player.
07:55So you get to that space sometime where you won't to do things your way.
08:01It's Pat Riley way.
08:07Tragic.
08:09Damn.
08:09He's making good points.
08:11Hey, this guy's good.
08:12Oh, everyone.
08:14Here's here's I miss him.
08:17So here's why the same way, please leave you so much respect and why so
08:23many people will listen to what he has to say, he went through the same thing
08:29and that didn't end like this.
08:34And he came back.
08:36Yep.
08:37So if there's a person that can speak on this issue by not getting
08:46the, thank you very much contract, right?
08:50The heat life or contract.
08:52We should have thanked him.
08:53It would be D way.
08:55We should have thanked him so much.
08:56I said, you know, I said, I said this, if they ain't doing for D way,
09:02they ain't doing it for Jim.
09:03I almost, I still throw up.
09:05If I ever see a photo of him in a Cavs jersey, I can't, but yeah.
09:12So, um, but here's the other one.
09:16Pat Riley said he wrote an email, right?
09:23Think about this.
09:23Think about some of the things Pat Riley said about D way.
09:27Need to get in shape.
09:29Yeah.
09:29Right.
09:31Um, and he fat shamed him on the way back.
09:35He goes, no more pancakes.
09:37Right.
09:37But think about, but think about this at no point in time, no matter how
09:43banged up, no matter how bad, how bad his knees were and no point in time.
09:51Did you ever have a question of whether D way was playing basketball?
09:58And I do think that thing, that's the thing that gets me.
10:03And that's why I do think in this, like it does, like, I think he holds Pat
10:07accountable and I think that he holds the organization accountable for their
10:10mistakes, but there is a little bit of like, Hey man, I didn't do it.
10:15Right.
10:16What are you doing?
10:17Right.
10:17That's what I'm saying.
10:18That's why these words coming from D Wade, a person who everybody would,
10:24would say he got screwed more than Jimmy feels like he getting screwed
10:30and look at how he handled it.
10:33One more from D Wade discussing this situation and then we'll move
10:37on from it for the time being.
10:40But, uh, he said, uh, that he feels like when Pat Riley had his press
10:44conference, kind of got a pep in his step again.
10:48When I left, I heard Pat Riley say something about how he wished
10:51he would have done handled me.
10:53Right.
10:55That would have been perfectly fine with me.
10:57If we would have sat down and talked about it that way, I actually
10:59could have signed up for that plan because you let me know.
11:03And so, like I said, man, a lot of this is going on.
11:05It's just ugly because I know it ain't no communication going on.
11:08And then it's ego is pride is jockeying proposition.
11:11And it's, it's, it's ugly on our organization.
11:14You know what I mean?
11:14But also at the same time, from a person that's been inside the
11:17organization, our fist is that if we're going to be that way, let's be that way.
11:21And the stuff that we've been hearing as former players, we don't like it.
11:25We didn't get away with that.
11:29We didn't get away with that.
11:30So when I hear someone like, but it's just ugly, man.
11:40And so hopefully we get through this, you know what I mean?
11:42But like, you know, when I look at the organization and I look at all the
11:45players that's come through and everyone, yeah, a lot of guys have left.
11:48A lot of top guys have left because they've had, we've ran into that guy.
11:52You ran into that guy.
11:53And when you run into that guy in Miami, you see who get the, you see who wins.
12:00There you go.
12:00D Wade on his a wine network podcast.
12:04Hey, come on.
12:06Hey, that was good.
12:07He's good.
12:08He's so much.
12:13So can you please, please leave Danny age, Mickey, get him away from Danny age.
12:21All right.
12:22So, I mean, but if you think about what he would say, I think if you D were to
12:31speak on it, you know, without having any ties, he would say the same thing.
12:38You know, there's a lot of players, probably a few more mother
12:42bleepers in UD speech though.
12:43Yeah.
12:45Yeah.
12:46Cause it, because here's the thing with UD, the contract is the contract.
12:51You can fight over the contract all you want, but don't ever cheat the
12:56players by going out there and not playing.
12:59And I think the important thing that we all learned is D Wade liked Pat
13:03Riley's press conference and that Pat Riley has Peppins step back.
13:06Ergo, not my fault.
13:09You ain't getting no, that's what he said though.
13:11He's like, I like that, but it started with your question, which do you like that?
13:26In fact, it kind of sounds like D Wade saying that reset the organization.
13:31And that's why he took your video, giving you a little shout out.
13:35It's it's, I don't care cause you know, my whole thing is this, I don't care.
13:46How much you hate the organization, Bam, Tyler, um, you know, uh, all those guys
13:56on the team, the young guys, Jaime, Kalel, you know, all those guys on the team.
14:03Kalel Jovich, they don't deserve that.
14:09So whatever your issue is with the organization, those guys don't need to
14:15be punished on game day by the issues you have with the organization.
14:22And I think when you hear what D Wade saying, what UD tried to avoid,
14:29right, is that is the issue.
14:33Everybody's head at some point, an issue with Pat Riley, right?
14:40Everybody's gotten into it with spoke like D Wade said, it was impossible to
14:46ignore, right?
14:49But you never, ever heard.
14:54But once game time started, the guy didn't give his other
14:59teammates, everything he had.
15:01Mac man says bulls paid their young guys.
15:02Didn't max.
15:03Jimmy was paid.
15:04Cat didn't max.
15:04Jimmy Philly paid Ben and Tobias didn't max.
15:07Jimmy.
15:07He paid and said, bam, didn't max extend Jimmy.
15:10Well, they did, but they did extend it.
15:12One did extend Jimmy.
15:14They did extend Jimmy.
15:14He's like, he's on a, an extension right now.
15:17He's on an extension right now.
15:19That's the thing.
15:20Like they, what are, what are we, what are we doing?
15:23Like, is it fair to say Pat Riley should just extend him based on the last two
15:33years and how many games he's played.
15:37And the biggest issue Pat Riley had was, and keep in mind as an organization, you
15:42could always say, if Jimmy had given us 10 more games, we wouldn't have been in
15:46the play.
15:48Do you want to pay a guy another 60 million two years from now?
15:55Right.
15:55And a lot of organizations do this.
15:58A lot of organizations will do this.
16:01We're not going to give you the extension and we want to see how you respond because
16:06if you respond poorly, then we were right.
16:10Okay.
16:11It happens with young players.
16:12It happens in football.
16:14It happens in a lot of situations.
16:18And, and so you look at all the guys that the dolphins didn't extend that end up on
16:23other teams because they went out, they bought, they didn't worry about the
16:29contract and then ended up getting bigger, more lucrative deals, even though it was
16:36somewhere else.
16:37Mac man says it wasn't a mistake to page him.
16:39It was a mistake to pay Bam before Jimmy.
16:40Yeah.
16:40But the one thing guys got to understand, I know Bam makes a lot of money.
16:43Bam rightfully is getting criticized because his play hasn't been up to snuff, but you
16:47guys realize that Bam didn't sign like Bam took a discount.
16:50Like Bam, if he waited until the summer could have signed a bigger extension this
16:53summer.
16:55Like do people realize that?
16:58Nope.
16:58No, I'm just letting you know, like it, you know, yes, he's getting max year, like
17:02his max dollars for those years, but he could have gotten an even longer extension
17:06in the summer.
17:07So, you know, I'm sure, and, and, you know, hopefully he'll bounce back and that
17:12won't be the last contract of Bam's career, but it's also, it's, it, it's also
17:17one of those things where like, yeah, I get it, but he also kind of is doing, he did
17:21the heat of solid with that contract in a lot of ways, kind of did like the Jalen
17:25Brunson, right?
17:27But whatever, I get it.
17:28Look, he hasn't lived up either way.
17:30He hasn't lived up to it.
17:31He's then, and did that maybe I can't, I can't deny that.
17:35That was that that's part of it, but the same, but here, the same thing that's
17:41pissing Jimmy off now, and maybe he's thinking he's justified because of the way
17:47Bama's point would be the same reasons why the heat won't extend him.
17:54Somebody says that Jimmy's pocket watching.
17:58Is that what the kids call it?
18:00I will confirm with them, but I believe that's what it's called.
18:04Dade South calls me Vin weasel.
18:07That's cool.
18:09So like, yeah.
18:11And then here's the other thing you step into a very difficult territory.
18:23When you start talking about other guys getting paid on your team, insinuating
18:29anything about another guy getting paid on your team, right?
18:34Right.
18:35Like you, and, and think of Javon Holland, Javon Holland has been a
18:41tuber and that he's watched every single person on that team get paid.
18:45And he's said, oh, sure.
18:48Wilkins too.
18:49Wilkins too.
