00:00More than 3,500 houses were divided by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for the victims of the Yolanda Typhoon in 2013.

00:09Kenneth Pacientes is in the center of the news.

00:15It's too dangerous. We thought we wouldn't be able to live.

00:20It's still saddening for Josefina to experience the Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013.

00:27The storm didn't stop the challenge he was facing.

00:31After his house and property were destroyed,

00:34life became difficult for him and his family.

00:37Josefina was one of the thousands who experienced the Yolanda Typhoon.

00:42To help them recover,

00:44President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the ceremonial turnover

00:48of the completed 8 housing projects under the Yolanda Permanent Housing Program

00:53of the National Housing Authority.

00:55He distributed the symbolic key that reflects the 3,570 housing units

01:01in the 8 projects that were built in Leyte, Samar, and Maguing in Biliran.

01:06According to the President,

01:07this is a way for the government to give the victims of the typhoon their rights.

01:11In the new Philippines,

01:13we hope to see you succeed.

01:16Not only for yourselves,

01:19but also for the future of our future generations.

01:25Let us all...

01:29Let us all care for these houses

01:34so that they can serve as a foundation for a more stable future.

01:41The Executive Board also promised that as part of the government's efforts,

01:45it will build disaster-resilient types of houses

01:49to be prepared for the stronger calamities that will follow climate change.

01:54At the same time, the Executive Board also promised

01:57to strengthen flood mitigation projects.

02:00There is a flood mitigation project here in Leyte.

02:04This is the Leyte Tide Embankment Project

02:07that can provide protection against strong waves

02:11to the communities near the sea.

02:15More than half of the projects were completed.

02:20I hope that in the near future,

02:23this will also be completed by the DPWH or Department of Public Works and Highways.

02:29Throughout the country,

02:30we are paying attention to ensuring that all flood control projects

02:36are properly designed

02:39so that they can cope with frequent rains and floods.

02:44The area of each housing unit is estimated at 22 square meters to 28.6 square meters.

02:51They will also not be paying for amortization.

02:54The NHA also assured that these housing projects will be built in safe areas.

02:59The President also promised that the government is currently supporting

03:03the first housing projects so that they can be owned by beneficiaries.

03:07The construction of these houses is substandard.

03:11There is a shortage of electricity, water, and roads.

03:15It is very far, so it was not used much.

03:19But what we did is that we gave a little more funds

03:25so that the NHAs that were built first,

03:29which were technically substandard,

03:32can now be used.
