00:00OK, Frank, so we're here at Marsh Park, just explain where we are and what's going on.
00:06So we're in Marsh Park in Briley Hill, it's right at one end of the High Street in Briley
00:10Hill which is a really good thing, not many places have got a big old park like this going
00:15back to 1921 in their town centre.
00:20This park was actually put together after World War One by World War One soldiers returning
00:24from the war and they actually did all the landscaping of it.
00:28And we've always known, it had a bit of a history in World War Two as well, the locals
00:31have talked about there being a lookout post on here.
00:36We've always seen a couple of bricks here in the corner on the ground, revealed in the
00:40sort of summer weather, you know, you can see them there, but we didn't know if we were
00:44going to dig it out and find a pile of bricks that somebody had dumped on here years ago
00:48or if it would actually be the foundations of what we wanted it to be, which is a World
00:53War Two lookout post.
00:54It's incredible, it's a great find, great discovery isn't it?
00:58So now we've scraped away the surface over the last couple of weekends with the Wolverhampton
01:02Archaeology Group helping us, we've discovered that it is actually the foundations of the
01:07World War Two lookout tower and local residents have said they remember it being a two-storey
01:12building, the bottom floor not so much accessible but the top was the important bit, it was
01:18kind of a big crow's nest, made out of red brick as you can see in the ground.
01:23It's 18 inches thick so it's quite robust and bomb-proof, but what we're looking for
01:29now is people from the local area, people who've travelled further afield now, with
01:34any memories of World War Two in Briley Hill and of family that were in the Home Guard
01:41and may have been placed here.
01:42So if people have got stories Frank, how can they get in touch with you?
01:45So yeah, if you had family in the Home Guard or the ROC or remember anything about World
01:49War Two, get in touch with us, the email address is culture at brileyhill.net and if
01:56you don't know how to spell Briley Hill it's b-r-i-e-r-l-e-y-h-i-l-l, so culture at brileyhill.net.
02:03Fantastic.
