00:00How will the proposed Gaza ceasefire work?
00:03This is what we know from the plan announced on Wednesday.
00:07Phase one will last just over 40 days.
00:10In this phase, Hamas hands over 33 Israeli hostages.
00:14This group includes women, children, and the elderly.
00:17In return, Israel releases Palestinian prisoners.
00:21It's not clear how many,
00:22but we understand it could be several hundred.
00:25Israeli troops will also start to withdraw
00:28from densely populated areas.
00:30The idea is to allow residents to return to their homes,
00:33or in some cases, the remains of their homes.
00:37The plan also allows aid groups
00:38to send more trucks carrying much-needed supplies,
00:41such as food and medicine.
00:44Then there's phase two.
00:46Negotiators will start talking about this phase
00:4816 days after phase one begins.
00:52If those talks go as planned,
00:54Hamas will return all remaining hostages.
00:57Israel's defense force will then withdraw further,
01:00possibly to the edges of Gaza.
01:02Finally, phase three.
01:04Hamas hands over the remains of hostages who've been killed.
01:08Israel then helps facilitate
01:10a reconstruction program in Gaza,
01:12a process that could take several years.
01:15But if the deal holds,
01:17this conflict may be drawing to an end.
01:19And make no mistake, it's been a devastating conflict.
01:23Around 1,200 Israeli citizens have died.
01:27Israel's military says 400 troops have been killed.
01:31Gaza health officials say
01:33nearly 47,000 Palestinians have died.
