A Queensland man is due to appear in court today after allegedly setting a woman alight in a domestic violence incident over the weekend. This comes as the state government ramps up its rollout of domestic violence reforms, which will take effect from July this year. Reporter Arianna Levy has the details from Brisbane.

00:00Well, it's being considered as a swift response from the state government.
00:06As of July 1st this year, 150 of the state's worst domestic violence offenders will be
00:12monitored around the clock in order to protect victims.
00:16And what that will look like is they will be required to be fitted with GPS tracking
00:20devices to ensure they don't breach court orders.
00:24As part of these reforms, there will also be a new panel that will be established to
00:28advise on this policy, as well as improvements to phone services for DV Connect.
00:33It's something that the Minister for Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence, Amanda Cam,
00:38has said is necessary.
00:40She's also made the announcement less than a day after a man was charged with the attempted
00:44murder of a 34-year-old woman after he allegedly set her alight in a domestic violence incident
00:50in Brisbane South over the weekend.
00:53When paramedics arrived, she was treated for life-threatening burns to her body and
00:58was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, where we've been told she remains in a stable
01:03condition.
01:04But certainly, this is an incident that's not only rocked the community locally, but
01:08also at a state level.
01:09Now, the 36-year-old man is expected to appear before Benley Magistrates Court to face those
01:14charges a little bit later today.
