The Senedd’s environmental committee has warned that Wales is at risk of losing a significant amount of its wildlife if nothing is done to tackle the problem. It has accused the Welsh government of not doing enough, and says that as much as 1 in 6 species could vanish in the future.

00:00Wales has remarkable wildlife spread all across the country.
00:05Wetlands areas, forests, our rolling hills are all home to hundreds of different species
00:09of animals.
00:10But a recent report from within the Senedd has warned that it could soon disappear if
00:14nothing is done about it.
00:16The Senedd's Environmental Committee, which is made up of politicians from Labour, the
00:20Conservatives and Plaid Cymru, has said that the Welsh Government aren't doing enough to
00:23halt the loss of wildlife in Wales, and have argued that delays to some plans have hindered
00:28environmental issues across the country.
00:31The report says that nature is disappearing at an alarming rate, and we've lost 20% of
00:35our wildlife in the last 30 years.
00:39While the report says that the Welsh Government have a lack of urgency over environmental
00:42issues, the Welsh Government themselves have said that they will take recommendations from
00:46the report into account, and are committed to tackling the loss of nature around Wales.
00:52The report also says that there is a role for everyone across Wales to play in protecting
00:57our natural wildlife.
