00:00Temperatures in the 40s are part and parcel with an outback summer, but it still remains
00:07a popular topic of conversation.
00:09Yesterday, Birdsville reached 46.5 degrees and Longreach here in central western Queensland
00:15is set to get to 46 degrees tomorrow.
00:18But we haven't actually broken any temperature records for January, so believe it or not
00:21it has been hotter out here.
00:23And it is a dry heat versus a humid heat that you get on the east coast of Queensland where
00:28heatwave conditions are persisting as well and the Bureau of Meteorology says some places
00:34are experiencing temperatures between 4 and 10 degrees above average.
00:39The heat also caused issues in southeast Queensland and Brisbane, upsetting the energy grid and
00:45causing power outages to more than 13,000 homes and properties.
00:50Energex says while mostly that has been all restored, with the heat set to continue for
00:55the next couple of days, there could be more power outages to come and to be prepared.
