00:00The outback heat is bright, it's dry and it's relentless.
00:06The Bureau of Meteorology says it's about three to six degrees higher than average in
00:10parts of southern and southwest interior of Queensland and up to 11 degrees higher than
00:15average in some parts of southwest Queensland.
00:18So the severe heatwave warning has been issued for Channel Country, Maranoa and Warrago.
00:24These are little outback towns of a few hundred people like Cunnamulla, Quilpi and Windora.
00:28It's been really warm at the moment, it's always quite hot in Longreach, I feel like
00:34the flies add to it quite a bit but lately it's been a lot warmer than usual.
00:40What heatwave?
00:41This is normal for this time of the year, I've lived here for 25 years, we always have
00:47this temperature and high.
00:49What's the weather been like recently?
00:50Bloody hot and going to get hotter.
00:54The residents of these towns are very well versed when it comes to dealing with the heat,
00:59there's a few different things they use.
01:00I'm currently standing at the outback's equivalent of a beach, the river and we've got sand and
01:06after school or on weekends there'd be residents here with floaties, with barbecues, families
01:11just all trying to cool down.
01:13I spoke to a lady from Windora, 1200 kilometres west of Brisbane and she said the main thing
01:19to do is stay in the aircon during the day and try and get all your work done in the
01:24morning or in the late evening.
01:26The Bureau says this heat is likely to linger for the next few days before moving east further
01:31to the coast where Brisbane and the southeast corner can experience this warmer weather
01:36but nothing to the temperatures that we've been experiencing out here in western Queensland.
