00:00A family was burned in Isla Puting Bato in Tondo, Manila early this morning.
00:06The fire was caused by an overheated appliance.
00:10James Agustin reports.
00:17Residents of Poruc Cinco of Isla Puting Bato in Tondo, Manila were badly burned
00:22around 2 a.m. this morning.
00:24The fifth alarm was quickly activated by the Bureau of Fire Protection.
00:28Almost 60 firetrucks responded.
00:31Because Poruc Cinco is at the end of the residential area,
00:34firetrucks were placed at the Compound of Manila International Container Terminal or MICT
00:39so that water can flow nearby.
00:41A fireboat was also used in Manila Bay.
00:45Other residents helped to reduce the fire using buckets
00:49and an old refrigerator that was filled with water.
00:52They also pierced the wall between the residential area and MICT
00:56so that it can be evacuated immediately.
00:58Elan was only saved by a few clothes.
01:00When I stood up, there was a big fire towards the end.
01:04That's why we stood up like this.
01:06This is the only thing we were able to save.
01:08It was hard, sir. The fire started again.
01:10Arlene's family's situation is also the same.
01:13Her grandson was only saved by a washing machine and a few clothes.
01:17We just heard the fire.
01:19When I looked down, the fire was already there.
01:23I didn't know if I was going to go down.
01:25My hair was all messed up.
01:27Jessa Kargang is Jaret's only one-year-old daughter.
01:30She was pierced by the tools that her husband worked hard for.
01:34We were told that there was a fire.
01:36When we went out of the house, the fire was already big.
01:39We went out because the house was just next to each other.
01:42It was hard, sir, because we didn't have anything.
01:46My husband's family members were all burned.
01:50Because of the fire, a few children were also robbed.
01:54Jeannette was very surprised that there were a lot of goods in her Sari-Sari store.
01:58They were shocked after they ran away.
02:00A lot of people came into the house that I didn't know.
02:04I don't know who brought the goods.
02:09The people who helped us returned our goods.
02:14It took more than two hours for the fire to completely go out.
02:18According to the BFP, 30 houses were burned.
02:2170 families were affected.
02:23It was a very narrow path.
02:26There were a lot of people.
02:29We were forced to go out.
02:32That's why we were blocked for immediate fire suppression.
02:38In the ICTSI area, there was a lot of smoke.
02:47That's why we had to use ladders to access for firefighting operations.
02:54The BFP also found out about the fire that started in two adjacent houses.
02:59One of the houses they were looking at overheated the appliances.
03:03They said that the fire started in the appliances.
03:09But we didn't go there to relay.
03:11We will conduct our own investigation regarding that.
03:16We will go and get the ashes and debris and also the electrical wiring for examination in our national office.
03:24The residents who were burned called for help.
03:28I hope we can be of help here in Isla Puting Bato.
