00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. thanked the Oman government
00:05for releasing the 17 Filipino seafarers who were stranded in the Red Sea in 2023.
00:12The President also emphasized the importance of enforcing the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers.

00:23After more than a year, the 17 Filipino seafarers were released after being abducted by Houthi rebels in November 2023.
00:35President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. himself announced this development.
00:40He is now in the care of the Philippine Embassy in Muscat, Oman, the Filipino seafarers,
00:46and was able to return to the Philippines to be with their families at an easier time.
00:52The Executive Board of the Oman government and its sultan also thanked them
00:57for their efforts that resulted in the release of the Filipino seafarers.
01:01At the same time, the Chief Executive also introduced the concerned Philippine government agency
01:06and private sector that did not hesitate to help foreign government entities
01:13to release the stranded Filipino seafarers.
01:16In November 2023, Houthis hijacked the Galaxy Leader ship while it was on its way to India,
01:22where it stranded 25 crew members, including 17 Filipinos.
01:28Since then, the President strongly emphasized the importance of the Filipino seafarers
01:33and emphasized their safety.
01:35They will also be reminded of the President's cancellation of his visit
01:38to the Convention on Climate Change in Dubai in November 2023 to address the situation.
01:44The Chief Executive also reiterated that the stranded seafarers were exemplified
01:49and that is why the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers was enacted.
