00:00Ukrainian soldiers say more weapons are urgently needed on the Donetsk frontline as Russia
00:06appears to ready itself for more attacks.
00:11A new fast-growing wind-driven wildfire has broken out in mountains north of Los Angeles
00:16triggering more evacuations.
00:22Donald Trump sat down with Fox News' Sean Hannity to give his first interview as U.S.
00:27President.
00:31Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says Europe must defend itself and encourages member states
00:36to boost military spending.
00:45Ukrainian soldiers fighting on the frontlines in Donetsk and the Donbass region say more
00:49weapons are urgently needed to fend off Russian aggression and territorial advances.
00:55They say the Kremlin is accumulating its forces, likely readying itself for further
00:59assaults and occupation of territory.
01:02The soldiers say they need more NATO standard howitzers with 155mm caliber shells.
01:09They argue those are highly effective on the battlefield and enable them to repel Russian
01:14advances and protect their positions at range.
01:19Meanwhile on the battleground, Russia continues to pummel Ukrainian cities on a daily basis.
01:25An attack on Mykolaiv injured at least two civilians, according to local officials.
01:30They say the drone strikes caused some damage to properties, resulting in a loss of power
01:34and heating to some homes in the cold months of winter.
01:38Another wave of drone attacks targeted the northern Ukrainian city of Sumy.
01:43At least three were injured as Iranian-made Shahed drones blasted the city, including
01:48a five-year-old child.
01:50More than 40 buildings, some of them residential, sustained damage, as well as a production
01:54facility.
01:59Evacuations have been ordered for remote communities near mountains north of Los Angeles after
02:04a new wildfire erupted.
02:06The huge fire, which authorities say is wind-driven, has quickly grown, burning through more than
02:1120 square kilometers of trees and brush in its first few hours.
02:16The fire also sent up massive plumes of dark smoke near the Lake Castaic area.
02:21Castaic is located just over 60 kilometers away from the Pacific Palisades neighborhood,
02:26which suffered the worst fire damage in Los Angeles.
02:30Some 14,000 structures were burnt to a crisp in the Palisades fire, which broke out on
02:35the 7th of January and continues to burn for its third week.
02:39The huge fire comes as parched Southern California prepares for possible rain this weekend.
02:46Experts say even a small amount of rain could create new challenges, like toxic runoff from
02:50burnt debris.
02:52Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has informed authorities to prepare the city for rain,
02:57to not add to the ongoing crisis, and mitigate environmental impacts.
03:02We are beginning in a proactive way, in anticipation of rain, to make sure that if rain does come,
03:10that it doesn't add further to the crisis that we've been in.
03:13There's a lot of hazardous materials, toxics, that could go into the ocean.
03:19We want to prevent that.
03:21In an executive order, Bass instructed authorities to remove vegetation, shore up hillsides,
03:27install barriers, and reinforce roads.
03:30The possible weekend rain brings the risk of floods, landslides, and mud and toxic debris flows.
03:39Donald Trump sat down with Fox News' Sean Hannity in his first interview as U.S. President.
03:44He spoke of his return to the White House, saying it took a lot of work, before proceeding
03:49to criticize his predecessor Joe Biden.
03:51I felt that we shouldn't have had to necessarily be here.
03:55Could have been done, a lot of work.
03:58It would have been over, we wouldn't have inflation, we wouldn't have had the Afghanistan disaster.
04:04We wouldn't have October 7th with Israel, where so many people were killed.
04:08You wouldn't have a Ukraine war going on.
04:12The newly sworn in president also said that he wants to reform the Federal Emergency Management
04:17Agency, as he accused them of quote, getting in the way of everything.
04:21Though he did not elaborate, Trump said there will be big discussions on FEMA soon.
04:25He is set to make his first trip as president on Friday, to survey damage from last year's
04:30hurricane in North Carolina, as well as the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.
04:39Europe was, is, and will be great again.
04:43This is how Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphatically opened his speech on Wednesday
04:48in the European Parliament.
04:51With remarks similar to those of U.S. President Donald Trump, he made a passionate plea for
04:56ramping up military spending to ensure the continent can defend itself against its adversaries
05:01without relying on the USA's security umbrella.
05:22Tusk said in order to avoid a tragic repetition of history, Europe must come up with flexible
05:27and creative ways of financing military expenditure.
05:31But this effort could involve the issuance of EU-wide debt.
05:36Poland is NATO's leader in defense spending, with a projected 4.7% of GDP for 2025.
05:43During his campaign, Trump said he would encourage Russia to quote, do whatever the hell they
05:47want to NATO countries that fail to spend at least 2% of their GDP on defense.
05:57French President Macron and German Chancellor Strauss met at the Elysee Palace in Paris
06:03to speak of the importance of European sovereignty and unity in response to the challenges posed
06:09by the new U.S. administration led by Donald Trump.
06:18Macron also called on France and Germany to take a stand against the U.S. and the U.S.
06:23administration.
06:24The U.S. administration has been a key player in the fight against the U.S.
06:29The U.S. administration has been a key player in the fight against the U.S.
06:33The U.S. administration has been a key player in the fight against the U.S.
06:36The U.S. administration has been a key player in the fight against the U.S.
06:39The U.S. administration has been a key player in the fight against the U.S.
06:43Macron also called on France and Germany to take a leading role in building a strong and
06:49united Europe capable of defending its interests whilst maintaining transatlantic ties.
06:55He also underlined that the Franco-German partnership remains essential for European
07:00strength and stability.
07:04One of Donald Trump's first actions as president has been to withdraw the United States from
07:09the Paris Climate Agreement.
07:11This is exactly what he did first time around in 2017, although Joe Biden reversed the
07:17decision four years later.
07:19The goal of the Paris Climate Agreement is to limit the global average temperature rise
07:23to no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.
07:26Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the EU's Environment Commissioner told
07:31Euronews that Trump's decision is regrettable, but also an opportunity.
07:35First and foremost, we will continue to engage with our American friends and partners
07:40across domains.
07:41In the domain of geopolitics, in the domain of trade, but also in the domain of climate
07:45action.
07:46But also, this will require more assertiveness, more diplomacy from Europe across the globe.
07:52And of course, when there is a vacuum, others will fill it.
07:56And that holds good for us, but I'm sure the Chinese, the Indians and others will play
08:02their part as well.
08:05Hoekstra added that the EU should not deviate from its path, which aims at significantly
08:10shifting away from Russian fossil fuel energy.
08:14So what we will do is a couple of things in the years to come.
08:17You know, we will continue to double down on renewables, on grid capacity, on battery
08:22capacity.
08:23That is one.
08:24Secondly, we're going to be very, very clear on making sure we enhance our autonomy and
08:31decrease our dependencies.
08:33The commissioner also recalled that China is currently responsible for 30% of global
08:38emissions, and is therefore paying close attention to Beijing's compliance with its commitments.
08:48As protests erupt against executive orders by Donald Trump to clamp down on the rights
08:53of immigrants in the US, Venezuela's president says the country is waiting for migrants to
08:58return home.
08:59Nicolas Maduro's comments come after Washington and the US Customs and Border Protection announced
09:04that the CBP One app would no longer be used to admit migrants into the country.
09:29Millions of Venezuelans were driven from the country during Maduro's decade-long rule
09:39after facing political unrest and economic decline.
09:43After Maduro was sworn in for a third term, the EU and US both denounced his inauguration
09:49as illegitimate amid allegations of fraudulent vote counting.
10:00Two people, including a two-year-old boy, were killed and two more were injured in a
10:05stabbing attack in Bavaria.
10:08Police said a suspect was detained in the knife attack, which occurred in a park in
10:12the southern German town of Aschaffenburg.
10:16Train services in the town were temporarily interrupted as the suspect tried to flee from
10:21police along the tracks.
10:24It is unclear if and whether the suspect knew the victims is being investigated by the police.
10:55I think you can recognize him.
11:01The style and the passion.
11:05I think yes.
11:06I think Italian men dress quite sophisticated and very nice.
11:09Compared to the modern fashion of just jeans and a sweater, I think they put a little bit
11:14more effort into it and you can stand out a lot more than the typical regular man.
11:18A double-breasted jacket.
11:20Well-dressed.
11:22I think that's how you recognize an Italian man.
11:25And a cigarette in his hand, maybe.
11:27I think the hand gestures.
11:29The way how Italians talk.
11:32And the elegance with it.
11:34I'm not going to lie, I have no idea.
11:37I'm not going to be able to tell somebody apart.
11:39I can see five different people that can be from five different places.
11:41I'll have no idea.
