00:00Police say they believe that this was a targeted attack.
00:05They were called to Veer Street in Collingwood around 12.30 this morning to report that there
00:11were shots that had been fired when they arrived.
00:14They found a group of about 50 teens and young people who dispersed basically as soon as
00:20police arrived.
00:21But what they also found was a 17-year-old boy who had been shot, who is now in hospital
00:28with very serious injuries.
00:30And police have also said that there was a 15-year-old boy who presented to hospital
00:34also with a gunshot wound, and they believe that that was also related to this attack.
00:41But police believe in what they've pieced together so far, that there was a brawl at
00:46a public housing estate in Collingwood on Hoddle Street just nearby that spilled out
00:52onto the streets, being Campbell Street and Veer Street in Collingwood, and that's where
00:57those shots were fired and detectives were combing through evidence all throughout the
01:01morning trying to figure out what happened.
01:05Police say that it's incredibly lucky that they showed up when they did.
01:09Let's take a listen.
01:10Certainly concerning when a firearm is used in a public place as we've seen occur this
01:15morning.
01:17It's really only luck that it's prevented two people from being killed, and the fact
01:23that the homicide squad are not involved is, as I say, pure luck.
01:28Now, still no word on whether a weapon has been found, whether this could be gang-related.
01:34We still don't know what the motive was, but what is reassuring is that this happened in
01:39a very public area.
01:41Hoddle Street is a very busy thoroughfare, and so police are hoping that someone has
01:46dash cam footage, that somebody witnessed what happened, and that they'll be able to
01:51assist police in their inquiries.
01:54They're also calling on that group of 50 people who were at the scene to come forward to help
02:00with this investigation.
