00:00What's your reaction, Gabe, to Schottenheimer's hire?
00:04They went from Deion Sanders and a lot of attention for 48 hours to Brian Schottenheimer.
00:12Well, another yes, man, right?
00:15And, you know, I remember something I want to correct myself.
00:18I remember I didn't like the Knicks and the T-Wolves trade at the time, Scott.
00:20I was like, I don't know.
00:21I don't know.
00:22Carl Anthony Towns is a good fit for New York.
00:25And I said, no, I always say you can't judge a trade until like two years later.
00:30You can't judge a draft pick until a couple of years later.
00:33You can't judge a coaching hire until we actually see it, right?
00:38But, you know, what's the difference here?
00:41Is he going to light the room on fire?
00:43All right.
00:44The offense will be good.
00:45The offense is already good.
00:46I mean, the Cowboys, to me, the Cowboys are going to win double-digit games if they're
00:50healthy and they're going to get bounced.
00:52But I don't see Schottenheimer putting them over the top.
00:54It's funny, though.
00:55I couldn't help but think.
00:56I brought up McDermott, Scott, and I was thinking about Sean McDermott and the Bills and then
01:01Brian Schottenheimer.
01:02And I can't help but think that Sean McDermott's become Marty Schottenheimer, right?
01:06It was the same thing.
01:07Remember, Marty Schottenheimer used to be a 16-game schedule, guys, but 13-3, you know,
01:1112-4 every year, it's like, you know, really, really good, really, really good, and losing
01:17the playoffs, losing the playoffs, losing the playoffs.
01:20People got frustrated.
01:21You look back, you're like, yeah, dude, the guy won 12 games every year.
01:24And, you know, he got thrown out of the bus.
01:26So that's why I don't like getting overreacting and firing coaches.
01:29But McDermott reminds me of Marty Schottenheimer a lot, to be honest with you.
01:33But as far as the Cowboys, you're right.
01:35Like, you know, think outside the box a little bit.
01:38Let's just be real, bro.
01:39I don't know.
01:40You watch the show Landman.
01:41Jerry Jones is on Landman with Billy Bob Thornton.
01:45And I think it was like people were like, oh, he's a pretty good actor.
01:48He wasn't acting, right?
01:51Like, he literally was telling his life story in that scene when he said, you know, I bought
01:55this company, I bought the team so I could work.
01:57He goes, not really about the Cowboys, it's about working with my kids.
02:01And, dude, that's all it is to him, right?
02:03It's not about like winning the Super Bowl and stuff.
02:06It's just about, you know, owning the Cowboys and working with his kids.
02:10And yeah, he's having fun, but Cowboy fans aren't having much fun right now.
02:14I would have hired Deion, Scott, personally.
02:17I would have brought some fire into this thing, bro.
02:19Those players would have played hard for him.
02:21People always thought he was an X and O guy.
02:22Shut up.
02:23The X and O guy.
02:24Adam Gase is an X and O guy.
02:26How'd that work out?
02:27When he won though, Gabe.
02:28When he won.
02:29Damn right.
02:30He's a Hall of Famer.
02:31He's a winner.
02:32But when they were winning, like when they were winning with Aikman and Emmitt Smith
02:36and Michael Irvin and Deion, he was into winning.
02:41Like, he really wanted to win every single Super Bowl.
02:45And like he fired Jerry or he fired Jimmy Johnson, I almost fell over.
02:50Nowadays, he's so much different than that guy.
02:52Obviously, he's a lot older, but now I think he's become more of what you're talking about,
02:57right?
02:58Like he's just this guy that has this toy and he gets to work and stay vibrant with
03:03his family and his kids.
03:04I agree with that.
03:05That's a great point though, Scott.
03:06Like Jimmy Johnson at the time was a risky hire.
03:09It was a bold hire.
03:10It was like, wow, Jimmy's a college coach and he's kind of crazy.
03:13How's this?
03:15And then what happened?
03:16They clashed.
03:17And what was the second hire after that?
03:20Really wild, Scott.
03:21Barry Switzer.
03:22Right.
03:23I know people that played for Barry Switzer on Oklahoma.
03:26I said, what's Coach Switzer like?
03:27He goes, he parties harder than any player on the team does.
03:31Point blank.
03:32Like they love him.
03:33He's crazy.
03:34Yeah, they're crazy.
03:35He goes to Dallas.
03:36They're all doing blow.
03:37They're partying.
03:38They're walking around with loaded guns and stuff.
03:39And Switzer's right along there for the ride.
03:41They win a Super Bowl with him, right?
03:43And along the way, I remember that Switzer got credit for that.
03:47They were like, yeah, it's Jimmy's team.
03:48He still won.
03:50He won.
03:51You know what I mean?
03:52It's not that easy.
03:53He took over and they just kept going.
03:54He won.
03:55But he was bat crap crazy.
03:58Like Barry Switzer's the coach.
04:00He got arrested at the airport for having a loaded gun.
04:02Not a player.
04:03It's like, God damn, I forgot to take that out of my suitcase.
04:07But now just to the total, you know, McCarthy's not a yes man, but McCarthy was looking for
04:12a job.
04:13Like he wanted to back in the league.
04:14You know, Schottenheimer to me is yes sir, no sir.
04:17You know what I mean?
04:18He's not going to rock the boat.
04:19He's not going to tell him.
04:20Do you think he gets the Saints job or not, McCarthy?
04:21Yes or no on the Saints?
04:22Yeah, I'll say yes because no one else wants it.
04:25Who wants that Saints job?
