00:00:00NFL headlines now in the offseason for 30 of 32 national football league
00:00:06franchises of course we are 10 days out from Super Bowl Sunday we will talk the
00:00:10Chiefs and the Eagles and the biggest storylines in just a bit here are some
00:00:15of the biggest headlines from a Wednesday around the NFL new head coach
00:00:19in New York Aaron Glenn starting to fill out his first jet staff and he is hired
00:00:24Steve Wilkes as the new defensive coordinator for gang green Donnie Steve
00:00:28Wilkes maybe you remember him as an interim head coach in Carolina getting
00:00:33his team to play well the head coach in Arizona who was ousted after only one
00:00:38year he's highly respected on the defensive side of the ball and in my
00:00:43estimation has received raw deals as a head coach in a few gigs that he has had
00:00:50I think it's a great hire for the New York Jets of course under the defensive
00:00:53minded Aaron Glenn as well yes stability and by the way being fired after one
00:00:57year in the NFL badge of honor you got paid four more years to hang out relax
00:01:01and do your job for another team in a better organization I like that it's a
00:01:04fantastic car because I keep saying the one thing I need with the Jets is
00:01:08accountability he's bringing a staff that you will need accountability if you
00:01:13want to get on that football field love the move for the Jets I like ever it's
00:01:16crazy like you're never supposed to like anything the Jets do because usually
00:01:18backwards the Jets are doing everything they can to say you know what at least
00:01:22on Sundays if we win or lose when I stand up in that press conference we're
00:01:27not gonna hear about oh what did the quarterback have to say or these high
00:01:30price veterans don't care about playing accountability is back in New York and I
00:01:34love it yeah and Steve Wilkes is going to be not just the defensive coordinator
00:01:38in title but actually calling the defensive plays which I think if you're
00:01:43a Jets fan you're happy about because Aaron Glenn the DC in Detroit right but
00:01:48you don't really want him solely focused on defense or in the weeds there you
00:01:53have to be a manager you have to be a delegator when you are the head of an
00:01:57organization now so that's probably good news for the Jets as well it's great
00:02:03news because I the CEO head coach is very important to me in a lot of
00:02:06equations usually on offense if you have an Andy Reid of course he's gonna call
00:02:09the plays but he's gonna be on the headsets with the offensive coordinator
00:02:12and defensive coordinator not calling plays but giving his thought process
00:02:16like you should hey blitz is coming in here hey that next play if it's third
00:02:19and 12 do a little softer coverage he won't call the play but he's just gonna
00:02:22guide that light there and I love that you look at coaches certainly can work
00:02:26out in professional sports we've seen it many times in the NFL and of course Aaron
00:02:30Glenn has the resume as well understanding the schematics defensively
00:02:34will be involved in all of those beatings and the game plan but on game
00:02:39day focusing on what a head coach should prioritize Patrick Graham defensive
00:02:44coordinator this past year in Las Vegas was maybe interviewing for a couple of
00:02:48other jobs will return to Las Vegas as the DC I believe under now new head
00:02:54coach Pete Carroll great place to live hey two years you'll be out of a job
00:02:59there it's not your fault you set this lineup straight here at this point so I
00:03:03don't really have too many comments on the Raiders because they ain't going
00:03:05nowhere for two years when maybe the Jets could move up what's the deal with
00:03:10Max Crosby's contract this offseason he signed an extension a few years ago now
00:03:14I don't think his contract is through but there was some conversation that
00:03:19maybe he wasn't all that pleased with Sin City and trying to get his way out
00:03:24of course one of the best defensive players in the National Football League
00:03:28Matthew Stafford told the Rams that he wouldn't take all that long to
00:03:32deliberate on his NFL future and word is out of LA that Matthew Stafford plans to
00:03:38play in the 2025 NFL season that's not overly surprising that was already kind
00:03:44of the thought and good news for the Rams the RS who are trying to build
00:03:47once again on two consecutive playoff appearances maybe making a deeper
00:03:52playoff run and good news for Matthew Stafford's pockets as well as he tried
00:03:57to play that and maybe got enticed me don't you remember when they won the
00:03:59Super Bowl and the head coach Aaron Donald everybody was basically saying I
00:04:04think we all should retire at one time and Cronky goes I got more money than
00:04:07anybody in this league what is it going to take to bring you guys back that's
00:04:11how you play it here perfect by his agent throw a little doubt oh no the
00:04:14upside is there pay me a little bit more money I'd be more than happy to come
00:04:18back but everybody knew Matthew Stafford wanted to come back and rightfully so
00:04:21that's a good spot now to be in out in LA there's been a lot of changing parts
00:04:26for the Rams since they won that Super Bowl in the 2021 season in Los Angeles
00:04:31Super Bowl 56 they had so many changes that offseason guys leaving like Vaughn
00:04:36Miller Jalen Ramsey so on and so forth a huge Super Bowl hangover in 2022
00:04:41basically everybody including Stafford injured they've dealt with injuries the
00:04:46last few years but DRS from season to season this offseason should be a little
00:04:51bit crystal clear Aaron Donald retired last year monumental change very young
00:04:56defensively that young defense was great by the end of the season and in that
00:05:02playoff victory for LA over the Vikings so that improves year-over-year Stafford
00:05:09is back Kyron Williams back who can Akua back if Cooper Cup can return Tyler
00:05:15Hickey should be healthy from the very jump all good signs in Los Angeles yes
00:05:20there's good signs and also understand this and I know we I love the play
00:05:23revisionist history because it goes both ways let's just say that you had a good
00:05:27play call on third and two inside the 20-yard line for the Rams and it ended
00:05:31up being a touchdown they probably wouldn't favorite and probably beat
00:05:34Washington and headed to a Super Bowl how crazy just a few short plays can
00:05:39happen and change your entire season and you're right about this when you start
00:05:42about the building blocks of a National Football League defense it starts with
00:05:46young really talented cheap players up front and right now the Rams have that
00:05:51they can capitalize on it yes they certainly do all right so all that's
00:05:57good news right we talked about some acquisitions to moving parts of
00:06:01returning pieces as well this was the headline we really needed to discuss on
00:06:07the let's go podcast that I think is Tom Brady's alongside longtime sports
00:06:12broadcaster Jim Gray Bill Belichick was making a guest appearance as he often
00:06:17has and the new head coach of North Carolina who has won six Lombardi
00:06:21trophies as a head coach in New England suggested that they should rename the
00:06:26Lombardi trophy after Tom Brady Donnie what say you know that's not going to
00:06:35happen but you know we can do in the NFL which I think would be a pretty good
00:06:37deal is the Tom Brady Award goes to the most cheat in his player in the National
00:06:41Football League for that season you can award it just like the MVP defensive MVP
00:06:45player of the year all that good stuff here that would be fun to watch like the
00:06:49Razzies in Hollywood like you have the Oscars and then you get the award for
00:06:52the worst performance and the worst movie that would be fun to do but no
00:06:57we're not changing Lombardi is iconic in football you raise the Lombardi trophy
00:07:02everybody knows what that trophy is called at this point here why would you
00:07:06change it at all it makes absolutely zero sense and I understand what Bill
00:07:09Belichick probably being a little tongue-in-cheek playing it up to Tom
00:07:12Brady it's his show and you know they have a good repertoire between each
00:07:15other I get it but no way shape or form the most iconic trophy in sports outside
00:07:20of probably the Stanley Cup would be changed in there like went into the
00:07:23Stanley Cup like hey let's change it to the Gretzky Award like yeah that's cool
00:07:26that's stupid don't do that absolutely not yeah I mean what are we what are we
00:07:31even talking about right like no never going to happen should not happen what
00:07:36is what is Belichick need to slurp Tom Brady for nowadays they're not even
00:07:40working in the same league he didn't get the Raiders you know I'm glad they're
00:07:44buddy what why you know why cuz here's what happens Tom I got the number one
00:07:50quarterback on the line here I promised that you would take him out to dinner
00:07:53and throw passes with him so he can come to North Carolina look come in he's
00:07:56using that for backpocket fuel when he has to go after a recruit and or that
00:08:01should be portal that goes how about if you talk to Tom Brady and he sets you
00:08:04right here like oh that's interesting yeah he's greasing the skids right now
00:08:07yes okay well I'm glad that you said that I listen it's just so dumb like
00:08:14that's one of the headlines that we react to but it's so dumb
00:08:17Vince Lombardi by the way five-time NFL champion won the first two Super Bowls
00:08:21his name will always be on the trophy sure Tom Brady has won the most of
00:08:27anybody any player any coach how do I have seven bill go ahead who was the
00:08:33only team that Lombardi lost to in a championship game I can't think it was
00:08:38he lost one time in a championship game I can't oh that's right it was the 1960
00:08:43Philadelphia Eagles so knocking down dynasties that's what the birds do baby
00:08:47so we can all go it all goes back to the Eagles it always does that always 1960
00:08:52the Green Bay Packers were eight and four twelve games season what are we
00:08:57even doing yeah let's go back to twelve man food has a good time oh I would have
00:09:01liked to been there Frank what you remember 1960 Tommy McDonald Tommy
00:09:05McDonald and the boys man like I was reincarnated it's probably somewhere up
00:09:08in the upper deck somewhere just didn't know it you want to talk about a wide
00:09:12receiver who would have had some success at 1960 the countdown continues to
00:09:23dwindle ten days away from Super Bowl Sunday including this day and of course
00:09:27Sunday as well he is Donnie right side I am Ben Stevens we preview Super Bowl
00:09:3459 from every angle in the long build-up to the biggest game of each and every
00:09:39NFL season I don't know if you guys know this but today is Donnie right sides
00:09:43final day on the early line for this football team as DRF is getting a big
00:09:49call to make the trip to the big easy for that big game DRS when do you leave
00:09:54for NOLA Sunday afternoon having a nice flight down to New Orleans get checked
00:10:01into the hotel relax and then away we go on a nice week here and also yet not
00:10:05having to wake up at 1159 p.m. to get my next day started it's gonna be quite
00:10:12interesting I'm not sure we're gonna know what to do with myself now no more
00:10:15bedtime at 334 o'clock in the afternoon listen as a guy that's been to multiple
00:10:20Super Bowls on behalf of the sports grid network all out on the west coast
00:10:24jealous of the East Coast times we wish I could all use it for me I guess we got
00:10:29a whole next year I'm gonna be out there man you putting the word in right now
00:10:35good word based on where things are going I doubt it but anyway I'll be here
00:10:39holding down the fort on the early line making sure we have really great content
00:10:45for you all Super Bowl week long and we'll check in of course with the crew
00:10:50chair though who's taking this chair Ben like who is it who's the who's in the
00:10:54chair for next week who's filling it with you next week yeah every day every
00:10:58day the same so Raniere five days okay all right there you go
00:11:03yeah Joey Rayne yep Joey Rayne here on the early line it will be me and Joe all
00:11:08next week we'll check in with the crew in New Orleans will it be live we shall
00:11:14see regardless the RSA because this is your final day here on the early line
00:11:19yes get some thoughts from you on some of your early handicaps for the game
00:11:23later on in our number three and of course we played Donnie's favorite game
00:11:28rate the storyline and how impact the narratives around Super Bowl Sunday here
00:11:35are the odds right now for where that latest check is as we have said Donnie
00:11:40not all that much of a change but slight movement on the money line minus 124 for
00:11:47the past 48 hours now back up by six cents to minus 130 in favor of KC still
00:11:54a point and a half that is the spread total remains the same at 49 and a hook
00:12:00but the amount of money in bets on Kansas City on the FanDuel sports book
00:12:05at the very least in terms of the spread component continues to dwindle as well
00:12:11we're in that law we're talking a couple of cents on the money line so let's have
00:12:15some more fun we start with our first storyline rated from 1 to 10 so rate the
00:12:23storyline Donnie the Kansas City Chiefs trying to make history and go for a
00:12:28three-peat to become the first ever team to win three consecutive Super Bowl
00:12:33championships in NFL history now from an NFL landscape rating that would be a 10
00:12:39why because nobody's ever done it before but from a national landscape from fans
00:12:43I'm gonna put the three-peat at a three here and the reason I bring that up is
00:12:47it's not because I'm an Eagles fan hear me out on this like growing up for me in
00:12:51Philadelphia in the Philadelphia region as we like to say Ben yeah the national
00:12:56teams like the Chicago Bulls like when they went three-peat you know Jordan
00:12:59takes a year off three-peat again they had a lot of fans and a lot of fans in
00:13:03areas that you're not supposed to have fans and if you have a rival team like
00:13:06I'm pretty sure in New York City a lot of Knicks fans were actually Bulls fans
00:13:10you're growing up and the same thing nationally same thing let's just go back
00:13:13with let's just say the Lakers who had a three-peat right you use them what
00:13:17Kobe and Shaq had a lot of fans nationally where people are tuning in
00:13:20and actually cheering them on to win their three-peat I don't find that with
00:13:24the Kansas City Chiefs like I respect the Chiefs for what they've done Andy
00:13:28Reid is a fantastic head coach Pat Chubon was a great quarterback the
00:13:32storylines are there but I don't find myself outside of like Kansas City
00:13:36Chiefs fans going like I can't wait to watch the Chiefs win their third in a
00:13:40row and how great that would be it's almost the opposite now granted the
00:13:44Eagles tracking as the national team is funny too because a lot of people don't
00:13:48like the Philadelphia Eagles because I would assume if let's just say
00:13:51Washington was there just as a new team where it's like hey they're harmless at
00:13:55this point they'd have a lot of national fans going like please do not let the
00:14:00Kansas City Chiefs win that game the same way in 2017 it's like hey hopefully
00:14:04the asteroid hits the earth where the Patriots don't win again the Eagles
00:14:07don't get their first Super Bowl it's miserable either way so I do have that
00:14:11but if I'm just rating it from a story perspective from fans tuning into this
00:14:15game I don't think many people are rooting for a three-peat for Kansas City
00:14:19fans perspective rating that storyline probably a two or a three broadcast
00:14:25league perspective absolutely intend it will be the most discussed storyline in
00:14:31New Orleans more than likely even more so than the rematch in the revenge that
00:14:35Philadelphia is seeking with all of it considered Donnie I'm gonna call it an
00:14:40eight I think history is cool I try to tweet out historical facts about what we
00:14:45are seeing in sports and provide that context all the time it is funny though
00:14:49how we change our perception right when Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid started
00:14:55this generational and dynastic run it was like wow look at this guy Mahomes
00:15:00right into the NFL winning the biggest games right away winning a Super Bowl
00:15:05championship in his second full year as a starter in this league and good for
00:15:10Andy Reid to finally get one this team is fun it's not one of those big markets
00:15:15it's Kansas City it's a historic AFL and National Football League franchise and
00:15:20then we're like oh cool greatness is fun well now we've seen it so many times I'm
00:15:26out on this whole narrative I still think it's cool all rated an eight on my
00:15:31behalf and Donnie just to put it into even further context in the four major
00:15:35men's professional sports leagues we haven't seen a three-peat in quite some
00:15:40time never of course in the NFL five times an NBA history most recently the
00:15:45Kobe and Shaq era in the early 2000s we've seen it five times in the National
00:15:50Hockey League but not since a four-peat by the Isles back in the early 80s we've
00:15:55also seen it four times in MLB history most recently up until 2000 and the new
00:16:01Millennium with the New York Yankees so from that perspective it would be cool
00:16:05but we go from celebrating history to hating on greatness at the same time
00:16:12absolutely and that's the nature of the beast here nobody ever went it's like
00:16:15the crab in the bucket theory hey that crabs getting out of here all the crabs
00:16:18try to pull them back down so you're not escaping this year you're coming back
00:16:21down with this misery so we love misery at times and misery would be like
00:16:25finally and also if you're looking at you know other teams and we're gonna
00:16:29talk about Tom Brady in the Super Bowl which is a really good one so I don't
00:16:32want to blow the cover on that but it's understandable we don't want to see
00:16:35other people succeed as Eagles fans we want to see ourselves
00:16:40you want some revenge for that yeah we continue to rate the storyline a week
00:16:46and a half out from Super Bowl Sunday in New Orleans Super Bowl 59 between the
00:16:51Kansas City Chiefs in the Philadelphia Eagles of course one of the big
00:16:55narratives entering is a second Super Bowl between these same two clubs in a
00:17:00three-year span Super Bowl 57 out in Glendale Arizona the Eagles a slight
00:17:05favorite Kansas City won outright 38-35 over the Eagles to start their two
00:17:12consecutive wins in a Super Bowl and that chase for history that we just
00:17:18discussed the Kansas City three-peat so rate the storyline one to ten Donnie
00:17:23right side and this of course you feel personally the Eagles seeking revenge
00:17:28over the Chiefs yeah I gotta take myself because I just rated ten like at that
00:17:33point because I'm angry still from the last Super Bowl but nationally I guess
00:17:36it can play to a six or seven at that point because I don't think you look at
00:17:39the Eagles and the Chiefs as ultimate rivals right so that's not really a
00:17:43revenge situation like let's just say the AFS the championship game where the
00:17:47Bills just can't go it over the hump against Kansas City you have that whole
00:17:49animosity I don't think there's animosity yes Andy Reid coached the
00:17:52Philadelphia Eagles before but we're happy for Andy that he got Super Bowls
00:17:56because we got one now understand this if we never got one and fired Andy Reid
00:17:59and Randy Reid's piling up Super Bowls and preventing us from winning Super
00:18:03Bowls yes then it would be a revenge factor on a hundred as opposed to ten
00:18:07but nationally I do think it's a storyline that does play out because
00:18:10from my perspective of watching that football game the anger where the Eagles
00:18:14had the better football team and didn't win well same thing last year with San
00:18:17Francisco they had the better football team and couldn't be Kansas City either
00:18:20but those other objects which I just get so upset about the tiki-tac caught the
00:18:24end of the game which if you're calling it by the book was a penalty it was a
00:18:28call in James Bradbury it was the right decision but in that moment sometimes
00:18:31you don't think so but the worst case of all was the best sack defense in the
00:18:35history of the sport was unable to actually get any sacks because it was an
00:18:39ice skating rink out there so now the fact that that's not there revenge
00:18:43certainly on the mind Nick Sirianni was the coach back then Jalen Hurts was the
00:18:46quarterback you know they're building this up and playing it much much bigger
00:18:50on a national level it does play because this wasn't hey it's a rematch of 1991
00:18:55like nobody remembers that this is a rematch of two years ago in a closely
00:18:59contested high-scoring football game so it does play I'll give it a 7 nationally
00:19:04but of course it's a 10 locally in Philadelphia but probably a 3 locally in
00:19:08Kansas City I think it's a 9 I think this is really cool again it's kind of
00:19:13same thing with the chase of history because we have seen the Chiefs so often
00:19:18in the Super Bowl nobody is all that happy to see Kansas City hunt down a
00:19:22third consecutive Lombardi trophy but because we have seen the Chiefs often
00:19:27and now for the second time in three years this specific Super Bowl matchup
00:19:31the Eagles and the Chiefs people are like ah we want some fresh blood we
00:19:35don't love Philadelphia yada yada this is awesome right this could be a budding
00:19:40rivalry we have two young quarterbacks on either side of the league facing off
00:19:44once again you've got Andy Reid against his former club maybe that was a bigger
00:19:49story back in 2022 than it is now but this does kind of have the makings Donnie
00:19:55for as much as interconference foes can be a little bit of a rivalry or at
00:20:00least familiarity I think revenge is awesome and the Eagles were great in
00:20:06Super Bowl 57 or at least Jalen Hurts 374 total yards 70 on the ground was
00:20:12Phillies leading rusher had three rushing touchdowns for total TDs those
00:20:17three rushing scores alongside Terrell Davis the only two players in Super Bowl
00:20:22history to have three rushing touchdowns in a single Super Bowl Devante Smith
00:20:27elite AJ Brown elite that will be a focus once again but Donnie I think
00:20:32that's where revenge really is maybe even in regional Philadelphia not so
00:20:38much against my homes or Kelsey or read it's against the sod father for taking a
00:20:44historic defensive front in making that look awful in the biggest game of a
00:20:50season with the poor footing in Glendale Arizona I know you're gonna be boots on
00:20:55the ground next week in the Big Easy they're not rolling in a new turf or
00:20:59they were playing on the same exact turf they've had all year long inside
00:21:04the Cesar Superdome yeah we'll be inside the Superdome on Monday night and I will
00:21:08make sure that I'm on there running a couple routes I'm gonna make sure Kevin
00:21:12lines up as a left tackle to see if I can use that bend technique and get
00:21:15around it without slipping at that point so we're gonna try everything to make
00:21:19sure no I have is not a center here Joe Friso he was attacked why is why is Kev
00:21:23why can't Kevin be the quarterback and Lisey be the tackle no because it's
00:21:28about the defensive line so I need like an actual offensive lineman to try to
00:21:31test out techniques on to see if I'm slipping okay trying to get by him at
00:21:35that point yeah we don't need the wide receivers we need the defensive end
00:21:37there's the left tackle and that bend technique where you try to get low when
00:21:41you get your head like vertical and you can get around the outside like that's
00:21:44good yeah rip rip through Kevin's got a great
00:21:47kick step I've seen it a time or two oh we're gonna put it to the test we are
00:21:52social media video on Monday night welcome to our number two on this
00:22:05Thursday on the early line I am Ben Stevens he is Donnie right side into our
00:22:10second hour and we continue to get you set for Super Bowl 59 now a week and a
00:22:16half away in New Orleans this is DRS's final day on TEL he heads to the Big
00:22:22Easy on Sunday afternoon for Super Bowl coverage for SportsGrid all next week so
00:22:29we need his closing thoughts on the biggest narratives storylines for Super
00:22:33Bowl Sunday and in our third hour some early handicaps from one Donnie right
00:22:40side we continue to play rake the storyline for Super Bowl 59 DRS here in
00:22:44our number two yeah it's good game to play here sort of get that gauge it's a
00:22:49nice way to settle in because things do ramp up once the teams get in town next
00:22:52week you start to see the real practice reports come out who's playing who's not
00:22:56playing some information to come through we're waiting for those lines to move
00:22:59you'll get those infinitesimal moves there between like you know five cents
00:23:03on the money line three cents on the money line but we want to see the one
00:23:05and a half to the two and a half or unbelievably going back to the Eagles as
00:23:09a favorite there's so many things to talk about profits and everything it's
00:23:12good to see they're all out there to digest and then next week you start
00:23:16eating some dinner with that stuff here man I can't wait we yeah we cannot wait
00:23:20you're gonna eat dinner next week how can I say it uh literally no but
00:23:26figuratively yes right literally no figuratively yes guy doesn't eat dinner
00:23:32just has a massive massive numbers lunch I can't wait for you to find your
00:23:37favorite burger place in the Big Easy and send back yeah some photos all right
00:23:41we continue to play rate the storyline one through ten for those biggest
00:23:45narratives entering the biggest football game of each and every season rate this
00:23:51story storyline DRS Patrick Mahomes chasing goat status greatest of all time
00:23:59just so we can follow up here is the playoff resume already for Patrick Mahomes
00:24:05of course seven years as the starter in KC the Chiefs have played in the AFC
00:24:10championship game all seven seasons they have hosted said AFC title game
00:24:14six of those seven years now have reached the Super Bowl five times in the
00:24:18seven-year window they have won three Lombardi trophies two straight looking
00:24:23for three in a row so again back to the storyline Patrick Mahomes chasing goat
00:24:29status one through ten Donnie where do you fall I mean honestly it's got to be
00:24:33a ten doesn't it because we're now taking a look at a guy that can step
00:24:36into those uncharted waters of Tom Brady and say well I didn't just win my
00:24:41next MVP Super Bowl trophy or my next Lombardi and it's a last time out of the
00:24:47gate like John Elway getting too late in his career he is piling these up lies
00:24:51right in the middle of his prime and some of the jokes that you make about
00:24:54Kansas City is we don't like the style of play and all they do is win what
00:24:58happens if Andy Regis goes to his general manager Brett Veach next year
00:25:02and goes you know what let's have some real fun give me a top running back and
00:25:05a top wide receiver to really get after this because even last year you looked
00:25:09at well that's not all that talented of a team winning the most impressive
00:25:13playoff run in the history of the sport that I've ever seen and then coming back
00:25:16this year and saying like well we added a couple nice pieces here but not a lot
00:25:20of superstars and doing the same exact thing on a run to a Super Bowl that's
00:25:24what's so impressive because never once have you brought up and you'll get this
00:25:28if the Eagles win the Super Bowl anybody could have been quarterback on that team
00:25:31how dominant they were for Jalen Hurts which is unfair because all that guy
00:25:35does is win but Patrick Mahomes I don't think ever gets the benefit of the doubt
00:25:38now going like well what do you want him to do he's got the most talented team
00:25:41all he has to do is go out there and do whatever he wants because it's so easy
00:25:45that's not the case so Brady also earlier in his career with a couple of
00:25:49those teams like I don't know how they win Belichick is a defensive wizard but
00:25:52that team barely has any running backs or you know a good offensive line no
00:25:56weapons to speak of it wide receiver in that upper echelon talent that you have
00:26:00I'm talking earlier in his career so now you're getting into that saying boy
00:26:03Mahomes is the piece to the puzzle that absolutely let's just say Blackbeck
00:26:07stirs the drink for that team he's everything for that team in the middle
00:26:11of his prime absolutely that's a 10 story for GOAT status
00:26:15I would agree DRS I'll give it a 9 just because of the idea that we're a little
00:26:19bit tired but I think hopefully we focus on the individual greatness that is
00:26:24Patrick Mahomes again all these trends start to change as we see these players
00:26:30these familiar faces and the same teams in these spots each and every year at
00:26:36the end of a career you really look back on greatness and quantify it and
00:26:40contextualize it I think we can do that right here right now with Patrick Mahomes
00:26:45seeking his fourth Lombardi trophy in his seven years as a starter in the
00:26:51National Football League of course Tom Brady who we'll talk about in just a
00:26:55moment in his role in Super Bowl 59 won three Lombardi trophies in his first
00:27:00four years as the starter in New England but then it took the Patriots a while
00:27:05to get back there they lost to the Giants in a Super Bowl but they only had
00:27:11two Super Bowl appearances in the next nine years after the 2004 campaign which
00:27:17was that third Super Bowl ring for the Patriots in a four-year window then they
00:27:23won a Lombardi trophy in the 2014 NFL season that was the fourth Patrick Mahomes
00:27:31can get that done in the seventh year of his career that was the 13th season for
00:27:37Tom Brady the longevity of the GOAT that is Brady at this moment it is really
00:27:42hard to look past he has seven Lombardi trophies in more than 20 years in the
00:27:49National Football League Mahomes is certainly on pace to surpass that if they can withstand
00:27:55these historical winning ways stat-wise Mahomes has the benefit of the doubt at least through
00:28:02seven seasons in comparison to Tom Brady in basically every single metric he does and
00:28:07also as players change the quarterback stays the same but your wide receivers change your
00:28:12running back change you have the best tight end in the history of the sport and Travis Kelsey
00:28:16who knows when he's going to actually hang him up but clearly he's not the same player that he was
00:28:20five years ago but still good enough to be a top shelf NFL player at this point which makes it so
00:28:25interesting because it just seems like if the quarterback and the head coach are on the same
00:28:29page and as good as you can get Belichick and Brady Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes as long as
00:28:35you have that same you know sort of institution around you that can still build that team up and
00:28:40so have the greatness at quarterback to make the plays when you need to who knows where it can end
00:28:44up here which is so interesting football supposed to be the hardest sport to do this because you're
00:28:48not supposed to get longevity of 15 16 17 18 years as a quarterback we're starting to see them play
00:28:54longer but still the running back and the wide receivers and all those pieces change around you
00:28:59but for you and that organization to still be great in a sport that says okay you're great this year
00:29:03how about the toughest schedule next year in the worst draft pick go out and enjoy that year and
00:29:06everybody knows when you win the Super Bowl your entire team feels like they all should get paid
00:29:10double because of what they're worth now it's so hard to keep good teams together but some of
00:29:15these guys like Brady and Belichick and Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes they seem to be doing just fine
00:29:19with that 23 seasons for Tom Brady what is so remarkable in the 22 years he was the primary
00:29:26starter he played a full season in 20 of those 22 he was always out there able to guide his teams
00:29:35to those biggest games and of course now that Tom Brady has retired he is the lead color
00:29:41commentator for Fox Sports who will be the broadcasting network for Super Bowl 59 so as
00:29:48we watch and witness Patrick Mahomes try to chase that greatest of all time status
00:29:53right this storyline Tom Brady on the call for Fox in Super Bowl 59 nationally I really don't
00:30:00think people care let's go five but personally for me I go 10 because I love this because you're
00:30:05watching an active time as we talked about it we just said goat status chasing goat status what do
00:30:10you think of that story do you know who Patrick Mahomes is chasing not somebody in history 100
00:30:15years ago the guy calling the game you don't think Tom Brady's gonna watch this game and I know he's
00:30:19supposed to be neutral and not supposed to be you know unhanded there but every time Patrick Mahomes
00:30:23gets stopped on third down could throw an interception they lose this game that says
00:30:27you're just another year and another Super Bowl way where I can have my time you know deep down
00:30:32the competitor and Brady the ultimate competitor wants Mahomes to lose this game and lose it badly
00:30:38no doubt about it and when Tom Brady in broadcast sees bad quarterback play or a mistake he lets
00:30:46you know about it because it still makes it more on the early line up next continuing to rate the
00:30:52storyline for Super Bowl 59 in every single angle of the biggest game of every NFL season we talked
00:31:00about Patrick Mahomes quarterback for the Chiefs trying to chase that goat status and his fourth
00:31:06Lombardi trophy in only seven years as a starter Jalen Hurts leading Philadelphia to a second
00:31:12Super Bowl in a three-year run you can argue what Jalen Hurts has done in terms of his production
00:31:19on the football field at times but guiding his team to success something we closely associate
00:31:25with the quarterback position in the National Football League and really football as a whole
00:31:30there is no doubting Jalen Hurts's overall success to rate this storyline Donnie right side
00:31:35Jalen Hurts joining the NFL's elite quarterbacks if he can pick up a Super Bowl victory it's a three
00:31:43because he's never going to get credit for it he could go out and out do Mahomes which he did in
00:31:46the last Super Bowl but the defense gave up 38 points wasn't his fault he was sensational in
00:31:50that game yes he got strip sacked on that one which came back for a touchdown but you never
00:31:54watched that game and said to yourself like oh man I don't know if they can win with this
00:31:57quarterback he was phenomenal in that Super Bowl rushing and also passing there so the reason I
00:32:02rate it so low is he wins this game what's the narrative here well they had the number one
00:32:06defense in the league not that they beat Patrick Mahomes which nobody beats Kansas City or well
00:32:12Saquon Barkley had 162 yards and three touchdowns anybody could have played quarterback with that
00:32:16he won't get the respect not from me not from Philadelphia not from the people looking at how
00:32:21hard it is to have the record he does and as much winning as he does over his first five years to
00:32:26get that respect but I just look at that national narrative is for some reason like anybody can just
00:32:32fill in and do that at any time which is completely disrespectful to Jalen Hurts who's still younger
00:32:37in his prime going back to his second Super Bowl his second NFC championship and played extremely
00:32:43well we're not even talking about Ben like oh man I know he was nervous in his first one he was
00:32:47terrible in that one hopefully it gets better he was sensational in his first and I expect him to
00:32:52be very good in his second this is his fourth full year as the starter in Philadelphia played
00:32:58in 15 games during his rookie campaign in 2020 but only made four starts second Super Bowl appearance
00:33:06second conference championship victory for the Eagles in these four years and Donnie at the end
00:33:12of Super Bowl 57 despite the loss in the performance from Jalen Hurts that we showed
00:33:17you earlier he also finished runner-up that year in the MVP award as well to I believe Patrick
00:33:25Mahomes but it was the idea that Jalen Hurts was on the rise as that next great quarterback in the
00:33:31NFC right in the NFC didn't have Mahomes and Allen and Jackson and Burrow and all that Jalen Hurts
00:33:39could take the mantle on that side of the league that thought is kind of dwindled which I don't
00:33:44necessarily think is fair but I think from a storyline perspective you're spot on it's a four
00:33:50or a five for me will give the respect that is deserved but more than likely if the Eagles win
00:33:57this game it's a great defensive effort it's consistent play out of Jalen Hurts and it's
00:34:02probably a great game from Saquon Barkley that's not a recipe just for Super Bowl 59 success for
00:34:07the birds that's how they've reached this stage that's how things have been conducted all year
00:34:12long in Philadelphia but you know it's not really our storyline DRS as I said last week and maybe it
00:34:19made air if there are a thousand Jalen Hurts haters out there our producer Joe Frizzo is one
00:34:25if there's a hundred Joe Frizzo is one if there is one Jalen Hurts hater in the world it is Joe
00:34:32Frizzo if there are zero and Joe Frizzo is deceased so Joe Frizzo in our ears tell us how would you
00:34:41rate the storyline of Jalen Hurts trying to become an elite quarterback for Super Bowl 59
00:34:48seven like the seven so let me ask this further and Donnie we could ask and then react Joe if
00:34:54Jalen Hurts comes out on top in Super Bowl 59 and the Eagles win a Lombardi trophy
00:35:01it hurts is good in the game how will you feel about Jalen Hurts moving forward will he be a
00:35:06top three quarterback in your mind in the NFC
00:35:14we cannot repeat what they just said yeah over there but let's just let's just say it was rather
00:35:21slanderous those were big words by Joe Frizzo I'll just say Donnie we will provide the necessary
00:35:27props that Jalen Hurts is deserving of but to your point the Eagles are the best defense in football
00:35:34you would think Philadelphia has to play great on that side in is there a pathway for the Eagles
00:35:40to win if Saquon Barkley is mediocre more than likely not but we don't expect Saquon Barkley
00:35:47to be mediocre here are his props for Super Bowl 59 22 and a half the attempts number 112 in a hook
00:35:55the rushing yards prop 13 and a half receiving yards and minus 192 hit pay dirt the best price
00:36:02of anybody to find the end zone in New Orleans so rate this storyline Saquon Barkley the best free
00:36:10agent signing ever it will be a 10 if the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl now was
00:36:18the most consequential free agent signing in the history of the NFL no that was 1993 Reggie White
00:36:22leaving the Philadelphia Eagles in that first big wave of you can now be free agents and now get big
00:36:27money from other franchises and went to the Green Bay Packers for the most money but if you're just
00:36:31looking for a steady impact from a player that really changed because let's think about this
00:36:36there's been other really good free agent signings across the league but we did we ever have one that
00:36:40goes because I'm being honest here the Eagles do have a great defense yes they do and Jalen Hurts
00:36:44is a good quarterback they got wide outs but let's just say it's Kenneth Gainwell as the
00:36:48starting running back the Eagles are not in the Super Bowl like that's how good Saquon Barkley
00:36:53has been now you can say like hey well Patrick Mahomes never was on the Chiefs or you know
00:36:58Fred Farr but we're talking about true free agents here that were able to pick and choose
00:37:02their team that were let go and one thing goes you know what you could be the missing piece to
00:37:06the puzzle as Reggie White who went from the Eagles to the Packers who weren't a great franchise when
00:37:10he arrived there ended up winning a Super Bowl with them that's the impact I'm talking about
00:37:14so we might be doing this a week and a half a little bit early because quite frankly
00:37:18you can put him on the pantheon of maybe the greatest overall impact in the first season
00:37:23where he came to a team it would be Saquon Barkley not because he was just good on the team
00:37:28historic things rushing for more yards than anybody from week one through the Super Bowl
00:37:33in NFL history and getting a Lombardi trophy that probably would be the best I rate that at 10.
00:37:39So quickly DRS those props that we showed you for Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley let's say
00:37:43both guys approach those numbers play well the Eagles win the Lombardi trophy who goes home with
00:37:49the Super Bowl 59 MVP award? I still think they're going to give that to Saquon Barkley based on the
00:37:55year that he's had as a carryover even though you are not supposed to do that the human element is
00:38:00going to creep in I believe that. Yep I would agree as well Barkley a shorter price right now
00:38:06than Jalen Hurts. More on the early line next. We continue rate the storyline for Super Bowl
00:38:1259 of course a huge storyline and narrative whether fair or unfair that has followed Kansas
00:38:18City in this dynastic run and certainly this season is what people believe is help from
00:38:24the officiating love from the refs I think it's because we are seeing an elite franchise play in
00:38:31marquee game after marquee game allowing people to be mad at Kansas City and try to blame the
00:38:37referees but Donnie let's talk storyline for Super Bowl 59 rate the storyline the impact of the refs
00:38:44in the biggest game of the season. I'm hoping it's just a five which means like either side wasn't
00:38:50upset where it was being thrown away at that point but it could ramp up to a seven eight nine or ten
00:38:55the only thing we ask for here is even if you're on both sides here when you see a play that's called
00:39:01and they show the instant replay and it was a clear foul nobody really gets upset by that like
00:39:05I meant last week let's just say Jalen Hurts runs it into the end zone for a touchdown they show the
00:39:09close-up here and where the call was Landon Dickinson Landon Dickerson reached out and grabbed Bobby
00:39:14Wagner nobody gets upset by like yeah that was a call at that point but also on the Eagles where
00:39:18they have one of the bigger plays of the game could have called a hold on Saquon Barkley but
00:39:22then the refs made up for it two straight plays on calls that were not made against the Eagles
00:39:26we don't like those so even in big moments of games on big passes in the Super Bowl which I'm
00:39:31sure are going to happen Saquon with a 62 yard run to the outside if it's a legitimate penalty
00:39:37call if it's Tiki Tackett has no idea about the play itself on the opposite side don't call it
00:39:42fans are fans alike we understand where if a player gets two feet down in bounds and they
00:39:47called it out of bounds and it gets overturned in your favorite team nobody's throwing their you
00:39:51know pizza box or slice of pizza better yet at the TV going like I can't watch this anymore that's
00:39:57all I ask for either way it happens bad calls are going to happen but just don't have an impact in
00:40:02the game where everybody goes like how could you possibly call it because quite frankly I was left
00:40:07that way two years ago Kansas City and Philadelphia at the end of the game where Jalen Hurts was going
00:40:11to have a chance with about two minutes ago down three points in that football game that would
00:40:14have made for a magical theater that we got robbed of doing that that's all we asked for
00:40:19even if it goes back to NFC championship games Ben like the Rams and the Saints game
00:40:23we all knew that was a horrible call which sent one team to the Super Bowl left one team home
00:40:27you just can't do that just call the stuff you have to call point of attack plays leave everything
00:40:32else alone yes and listen the officials are going to have an impact on the game we do not want them
00:40:39to impact the outcome or decide what that final score is going to be at the end of Super Bowl 57
00:40:47that very controversial holding call on James Bradbury on Juju Smith Schuster that frankly
00:40:53looked like holding but people get mad in that stage of the game how could you he called the
00:40:59play what it is and Kansas City took advantage iced out the clock kicked a field goal with six
00:41:04seconds left that was the game winner we looked at the AFC championship game right Josh Allen
00:41:11stuffed on fourth and one Mark Zinno lost his mind about it and started questioning the rule book all
00:41:17around the national football league don't leave it in the hands of the officiating and oh by the way
00:41:24there were 13 minutes remaining in regulation and later in the fourth quarter the Bills tied the
00:41:29football game at 29 all it did not dictate the outcome an important juncture in potentially the
00:41:36wrong call sure but what really matters if the referees impact the outcome mainly dictate that
00:41:45outcome I do not believe they will I'm going to put it at a two I'm sure the public would tell
00:41:50you in large part this is upwards of a seven in terms of that storyline rating a couple of great
00:41:57off-season acquisitions for the Eagles we talked about Saquon Barkley you could look at the draft
00:42:03with Cooper Dejean and Quinion Mitchell as well but Donnie all of that on the defensive side of
00:42:09the football orchestrated by one guy Vic Fangio longtime defensive wizard in the NFL back near
00:42:17his home area and of course has been incredibly successful coordinating the best defense in the
00:42:22NFL this year so rate the storyline this would be Vic Fangio's first Super Bowl ring how do you rate it
00:42:31not too to be honest come on now when do we like Buddy Ryan 1985 like you knew the defensive
00:42:35coordinator and how great he was at that point you know there's other guys out there Marvin Lewis of
00:42:40the Ravens back in the day when they were winning and had such a great defense but let's be honest
00:42:43here Steve Spagnola's got multiple rings and now finally oh yeah he's a pretty good defensive
00:42:49coordinator wonder if he ever gets a head coaching job again so locally might be higher in Philadelphia
00:42:53but for the defensive and or offensive coordinator to get the ring and the attention like he finally
00:42:59got his ring we don't ever talk like that so I would rate that low you know I love my guy Vic
00:43:03guy does wonders for the Eagles but as a storyline come on now can't be worried about defensive
00:43:07coordinators getting rings now stop has been in the NFL since 1986 this would be his first
00:43:14Super Bowl ring by the way Steve Spagnolo looking for his fifth as a defensive coordinator in his
00:43:21NFL coaching career that might be the biggest storyline for Kansas City plenty more on the
00:43:28early lineup next all right so many storylines to finish out here as we continue to look ahead
00:43:34to Super Bowl 59 10 days from now and then we'll transition to the National Hockey League our guy
00:43:40Pete Jensen joins us in just a little bit rate the storyline rapid fire so many fun ones that
00:43:47are a little bit more under the radar the Carson Wentz Super Bowl of course played in Philadelphia
00:43:53wasn't the guy to lead the birds to the last Super Bowl victory the backup now in Kansas City 1 to 10
00:44:03negative one like is even if he gets in the game then it rises to a 12 because that means
00:44:07the Eagles automatically will win that football game so if Carson Wentz somehow shows up as the
00:44:11starting quarterback at any point in this football game that will be a good thing as opposed to
00:44:16it's so out of whack in the fourth quarter Andy Reid is dialing up bombs for Carson Wentz to sort
00:44:20of hang another touchdown on the Philadelphia Eagles that would be a bad one but I don't think
00:44:24anybody is talking that we need to get revenge and thank goodness to beat Carson Wentz absolutely not
00:44:29if he was the starter for a long time yes that would be intriguing but this absolutely doesn't
00:44:34even have a ripple in the water yeah I would agree I'd say a one but fun for Carson Wentz maybe
00:44:41nonetheless all right next storyline Kendrick Lamar's halftime show in the big easy yeah it's
00:44:48a one for me and good and it's good too because now I actually get a 20 minute 25 break at halftime
00:44:53to maybe take the dogs out for a walk because I know I'm not missing anything with that halftime
00:44:58show so it's a one but really a 10 for me sneaky because I won't be watching I'll be relaxing
00:45:0410 for me I'm very excited to watch Kendrick Lamar perform we know that SZA will be there
00:45:08with him what other special guests are we going to see and of course there is going to be a very
00:45:14tough day for Drake is not like us we'll play and everybody will sing along in the biggest stage
00:45:20what does that bring Drake out there why change it for you him and Drake battle the half 11
00:45:26it ramps up like it ramps up and they throw down like the halftime sure 12 Oklahoma drill while
00:45:32they're rapping yeah I'm cool with that I would say it's a very large storyline all right let's
00:45:37run through some fun ones on February 9th 2025 February 9th a birthday for two key contributors
00:45:45for Philadelphia happy 28th birthday for Saquon Barkley happy 22nd birthday for Cooper and Eugene
00:45:53rate that storyline for the birds sounds like it sounds like a 50th day we're like who now also
00:45:59who has the bigger birthday party after the Super Bowl in New Orleans like where the people flock
00:46:04into is it Saquon's or is it Cooper Dejean's at that point and also are we going to get maybe
00:46:09rating on a 10 to a 12 Caitlin Clark at this game with an Iowa Cooper Dejean jersey on cheering for
00:46:15the Eagles could that actually happen could that happen well you know she I mean set the world on
00:46:19fire she's a diehard Chiefs fan yeah but come on they change affiliations at that point why would
00:46:25where'd she grow up anyway she grew up in Iowa I assume then where did you grow up in Des Moines
00:46:29yeah a lot of the Midwest not because they don't have professional sports teams like in Omaha
00:46:34the Chiefs for the team it's only two hours away it's a little bit closer but Des Moines
00:46:39not far from KC so you get a lot of that because you're not a time in Chicago's there a lot of
00:46:45Iowa fans love the Bears there's a lot all over the place but they're you know in the state of
00:46:49Iowa there's not a professional NFL football team so so she's going to be there next to uh
00:46:54to uh Taylor Swift again is that we're saying but not in a Cooper Dejean shirt as she was for
00:46:59the division around of course for the Houston Texans I'll rate Saquon and Cooper having their
00:47:04birthdays at a 10 what a great birthday celebration it could be how about as we tie in all the
00:47:10celebrity factors that we're gonna have for Super Bowl 59 Jason Kelsey's team that being the
00:47:16Philadelphia Eagles against Jason Kelsey's brother Travis who still plays in Kansas City of course
00:47:23it was the Kelsey Bowl two years ago people were like I don't need to see Donna Kelsey all over my
00:47:28TV what's that storyline now I would am I supposed to rate that storyline at a zero at this point why
00:47:35do we even care about the Kelsey brothers and who they even care like I'm Kelsey's enemy number one
00:47:39right now in the Kansas City Chiefs and Jason Kelsey just slamming the garage beer whatever
00:47:44he promotes now at this point so that's a zero for me got garage beer you ever drink it before
00:47:49no but it looks really good I've seen a lot of commercials you agree with their brand name
00:47:54it's a great name for a beer to be honest yeah for sure yeah I agree all right if the Chiefs
00:48:00is this real all right if the Chiefs win Joe Tooney of course one of the outstanding guards
00:48:05in the NFL left guard for Kansas City ties Charles Haley for the second most Super Bowl wins ever
00:48:13by an individual that would be behind Tom Brady Joe Friezo is that correct and everything I just
00:48:18said okay yeah how do you Dallas Cowboys San Francisco 49ers uh zero again because I don't
00:48:24think kids today even know who Charles Haley how great and crazy he was back in the day and
00:48:28most people would say like oh Joe Tooney like who's he played for again oh that's right he
00:48:32plays for the Chiefs yeah so that's a zero for me okay so um as it stands as well at the end of
00:48:39Super Bowl 57 right six seconds left on the clock it was going to be very difficult for the Eagles
00:48:45to come up with any play but Jalen Hurts dropped back to try to get the ball as close as he could
00:48:49to the end zone it didn't go all that far so this again from our hater aide Joe Friezo
00:48:56rate the storyline Jalen Hurts's inability to throw a Hail Mary if needed for Philadelphia
00:49:02I don't think you need to anymore you know what the new Hail Mary is you line up and hand it off
00:49:05to Saquon Barkley and say you can probably run all the way down the field better than we can throw it
00:49:09anyway there's no more Hail Marys in Philadelphia Hail Mary is tall sweep to Saquon Barkley against
00:49:14a pre-event defense and watch the fun unfold yes all right that makes a ton of sense also
00:49:19I would say rate the storyline if a Hail Mary is necessary and either Steve Spagnuolo or on
00:49:25the other side Vic Fangio does not bring at least four guys put a little bit of pressure
00:49:31you need no if there's a spy you're working in Dallas as a defensive assistant under Matt
00:49:36Eberflus that is your punishment forever all right here's a personal sports grid storyline
00:49:42of course the boys will be working on Super Bowl Sunday for pro football today but not during the
00:49:47actual game so they'll get to get back and enjoy their Super Bowl festivities rate the storyline
00:49:54Kevin's canceled perhaps yeah Super Bowl party of course Kevin Walsh big-time birds backer in his
00:50:02home you would assume a great time his fiance Sam a great cook a great host you would think they
00:50:09would be throwing a bonanza but now it might be canceled if the Eagles make it the Eagles have
00:50:14made it yes see that Ben where you been the Eagles actually have made the Super Bowl the
00:50:18ex-superior on programming here did you not know that at this point but by the way as I was Mark
00:50:22Zinnow let let me said again why I was brought here to the network not because I'm probably the
00:50:27best face of sports here in the industry it's actually because there was a young fledgling
00:50:32sports hopeful in this business Kevin Walsh that couldn't find his way put him under my wing and
00:50:37one of the things I taught him was when your team is in a championship game there are no parties
00:50:42that is a business trip for you in your own house that you need to have solitude you cannot have
00:50:48other people cheering you cannot people asking why did they make that play call because you
00:50:52already know what it is only bad things can happen so Kevin canceling a party saving himself some
00:50:58grief and maybe years of family trauma because for me when he goes in the Super Bowl there are
00:51:03no parties it's just a business affair that afternoon hoping for a championship he learned
00:51:08very well from me good for him that's a 10 that's a 10 on the cancellation that's a 10 on the
00:51:13cancellation I would uh actually disagree I love Super Bowl parties I think you should be around
00:51:17your friends but Kevin Walsh's statement as made to our producer Joe Friso quote there will be no
00:51:22party I'm not hosting for cops to break one of his new walls in his new home rooting player props on
00:51:28the other side of the field or Pat that would be Pat Foster one of our great producers betting the
00:51:34AFC team that was a few weeks ago of course now that would be Kansas City right the story line
00:51:40Donnie right side watching in his basement by himself without his wife and kid no but but no
00:51:46no 27 my daughters was old enough again 2017 obviously I was on I was in Costa Rica for that
00:51:51so wasn't but the last one I did watch it both me and my daughter explaining it to her how it went
00:51:57all the way through and it was fantastic maybe the best bonding that we've ever had and I look
00:52:01forward to doing it this year again how about that it was really beautiful man a little bit of motion
00:52:07that was really really nice uh rate the storyline by the way 2017 okay you want a little expansion
00:52:14of that story because I am a sentimental guy the next morning I wrote my daughter a little note
00:52:18that said how much I enjoyed that game with her and we lost so how about that I don't have to be
00:52:22a sore loser there you go I'm human I'm human bigger things in life man the bigger things in
00:52:27life rate the storyline to finish it out 2017 Super Bowl viewing in Costa Rica how was it
00:52:33it was harrowing it was unbelievable but when it ended here don't listen up there
00:52:40it's the best night of my life damn my goodness nothing better nothing better
00:52:46writes a letter to his daughter but that's still not his best day all right more of the other
00:52:51we're still 10 days away including Super Bowl Sunday from Super Bowl 59 but maybe you forgot
00:52:58and I could understand why the Pro Bowl games start today around the National Football League
00:53:05Pro Bowlers everywhere today Thursday look at what we have show them the Thursday docket
00:53:11show them that Thursday slate unfortunately no betting odds as of this moment but that would
00:53:17make sense here are our events today at the Pro Bowl games passing the test a mix of quarterbacks
00:53:25hitting targets and answering trivia questions correctly yeah trivia questions being answered
00:53:33correctly a quarterback from either conference will pair up with one of his Pro Bowl games
00:53:39teammates who will answer a set of five trivia questions about other current Pro Bowlers if the
00:53:45question is answered correctly it allows said quarterback 10 more seconds to hit additional
00:53:51targets and get more prizes what are the prizes we know what the prizes are like a year free from
00:53:59T-Mobile like what is it like a value the whole thing it's Pro Bowl games yeah what is the prize
00:54:06now that's got to be a cash incentive I mean first off understand where the Pro Bowl is Ben
00:54:14Orlando when it was a big deal was Hawaii players wanted to go there now outside of sending them to
00:54:19Omaha or Indianapolis I mean at least a little bit of an upgrade from that I mean come on now
00:54:24that's how serious we're taking this thing bad bad bad satisfying catches is a game through an
00:54:31obstacle course with jugs machines where you have to make those plays the big spike measures the
00:54:37power of linemen's spikes Patrick Mahomes would not be very good at that relay race is conveniently
00:54:45a relay race helmet harmony is not two guys banging their helmets together thankfully
00:54:51games show that test knowledge of teammates and dodgeball is your classic seven on seven
00:54:58dodgeball game dodgeball is always fun whether it's NFL players or your best buddies eighty
00:55:048,000 Donnie for the winners of the Pro Bowl games I think that would be an even split among
00:55:10the AFC and the NFC 44,000 just for being a pro bowler and showing up in Orlando did you know
00:55:19that Drake May was a Pro Bowl quarterback for the AFC yeah so it was like Snoop Minnis a couple
00:55:26years ago for Baltimore so losing a little lustro Snoop Snoop Minnis from Florida State remember him
00:55:32remember Snoop Minnis Snoop Snoop Huntley is the guy that plays in the NFL
00:55:37Snoop Minnis was better than him by the way to shout out Florida State back in the 1990s that's
00:55:41when it was a real deal but understand this too it is a nice little paycheck for these guys but
00:55:45wouldn't you like but like pay me and we don't have to go 88,000 before if I make it 44,000
00:55:51send me to Ruth Crisp in Orlando with the boys and we all have a good like hey you made the Pro Bowl
00:55:56like that sounds better than actually have to go out and actually play these dumb games
00:56:00to earn your money send me a check for 44 grand send me to Ruth Crisp with the boys out here we
00:56:05shake hands we dap it up great season see you later maybe we hit Disney World on the way out
00:56:09and be done with it at this point now great fun now I like to say this though I led the charge
00:56:15to cancel the Pro Bowl so I'm proud of the fact that we no longer have an actual football game
00:56:19so I guess this is okay but it doesn't need to be here at this point it does it almost feels like
00:56:24this should be like at the beginning of the season like I think I would actually care about a little
00:56:27bit more it's like okay we're kicking off training camp first it's the Pro Bowl from last year but
00:56:31okay let me see these guys mess around a little bit the end of the season now I'm not with it
00:56:35not with it I mean they've got to do something right to try to stay relevant in this buffer
00:56:40weekend ahead of Super Bowl. Why? No we don't. I was gonna say no we don't. I kind of agree with you right
00:56:46it's not like the Super Bowl is going to lack luster if the Pro Bowl is not all that exciting
00:56:52Donnie can can the Pro Bowl be saved or is it just like this or nothing? That's not it's yeah
00:56:59exactly the Pro Bowl can never be saved but I also don't understand the point like if you're
00:57:03the NFL like why don't you have the Pro Bowl in the Super Bowl city though too to have like the
00:57:07like why is it in Orlando it never makes sense I understood like Hawaii was after the Super Bowl
00:57:12it was a way to celebrate the final part of the season and the way you did it but the fact that
00:57:16the NFL doesn't bring it to the Super Bowl city to add a little bit more excitement with more
00:57:20superstars never made any sense to me. That's actually a really good point Deionis that might
00:57:25be where Commissioner Wright expects his best how much money I can make these guys come on
00:57:30because Orlando is great right warm weather all that is very exciting but they basically go to
00:57:37non-cold environments now where they can play games indoors which is what they can do right
00:57:43away in New Orleans. Correct it never made it like you just give me the Pro Bowl in Vegas before that
00:57:49no granted everybody's already getting there or there and the NFL has all of their PR and what
00:57:55like why are we stretching it out to Orlando and then saying hey it's you guys when it goes now it
00:57:58should be that the weekend before in the Super Bowl as the official kickoff the Super Bowl week
00:58:03makes too much sense. All right Commissioner Wright side I got I like it I got you. Hour three next.
00:58:12It's hour number three our third and final live right here on a Thursday and it is going to be
00:58:18a very good time the final hour for Donnie Wright's side as a member of the early line
00:58:25this football season as he heads to New Orleans. Don't pause. Come on. Resignation that's gonna be
00:58:32there'll be a lot of tears at the end of this hour when I put my resignation in so make sure
00:58:36you stick around for the highest rated hour we've ever had get after it. Donnie's final hour. Yep
00:58:43there you go. This football season as he heads to New Orleans on Sunday for SportsGrid Super Bowl
00:58:4959 coverage you'll probably see DRS on the early line next week we'll have a lot of videos and
00:58:56content and all that good stuff from our set in the big easy just it will be myself and Joe and
00:59:03Erie holding down the fort next week so we need everything from DRS here we'll get the proper
00:59:08perspective with Tom Vecchio where those numbers have changed or shifted or other bets that Vecchio
00:59:14has already started to keep an eye on for Super Bowl 59 since when we saw him on Monday we'll
00:59:21talk hardwood handicaps we'll go around the NBA some college basketball as well but then Donnie
00:59:27will do his final pick six of the year as well get his thoughts his handicaps for Super Bowl 59
00:59:35before he heads to New Orleans and Donnie you fade the public poll that is sure to be electric
00:59:42to start off this third and final hour the only way to get it started here you got to reach out
00:59:46to see what the people are feeling out here and pick a topic that's most likely going to get them
00:59:51angry that's the way you do it I think we did it here if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl after the
00:59:58game Travis Kelsey will that's what we wanted to hear from the people it's time right now for
01:00:05fade the public one last great parting shot to get Donnie right side all riled up headed to New
01:00:18Orleans if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl of course that would not be Donnie's desired outcome
01:00:24after the game Travis Kelsey will your four options at sports grid on Twitter propose to
01:00:30Taylor Swift retire from the NFL both or neither more than 37 and a half percent DRS
01:00:39selecting neither which I think probably kind of in that thought in that line of thinking
01:00:45was neither because I don't care get this public uh poll off my screen retire from the NFL nearly
01:00:5231 percent second most votes received which way did Donnie right side vote in the fade the public
01:00:59poll neither if he wins it you kidding me like you take a look and say to yourself okay retire
01:01:05from the NFL he's not going to want to go for a fourth straight championship at that point here
01:01:09and also if he is going to play probably going to want to have the pomp and circumstance
01:01:12married to Taylor Swift until he's done with his football career so for me I say neither at this
01:01:17point now if the question was if they lose the Super Bowl yeah the retire from the NFL is a big
01:01:23thing and yes the marriage proposal I don't think is coming on the field if they lose what kind of
01:01:28celebratory mood is that actually going to be so for me him winning the Super Bowl he's coming
01:01:33back he's going to try to make a run for a four spot there look at that wow look at all these
01:01:37photos night rodeo this is how about the midnight rodeo what's that from yeah I don't know that's
01:01:42them in the U.S. open though for tennis I know that for sure they're having a good time Patrick
01:01:47Mahomes and Brendan Mahomes there's them celebrating I believe last year's Super Bowl victory
01:01:53those are cutouts that doesn't even look like Taylor Swift no is that her face I don't know
01:02:00think so here are stateside yeah we don't have as much bandwidth to bet on like Taylor Swift
01:02:08props of the FanDuel sportsbook up in the great white north though where regulations are a little
01:02:12bit lighter they'll put up those Taylor Swift props how many appearances on camera how many
01:02:18times is she shown will Travis Kelsey propose at the end of Super Bowl 59 I don't think a lot of
01:02:26people are hoping for that right a Chiefs victory and then having to see Travis Kelsey pulling Ian
01:02:33Johnson and propose to his girlfriend on the actual turf I don't expect that to be the case
01:02:40but I did vote for both really we're getting to a point of the conversation Donnie with Travis
01:02:46Kelsey this is his 12th year in the National Football League he is 35 years old turned 35
01:02:52in October will be 36 at some point in the duration of the 2025 NFL campaign I do believe
01:03:00much like his brother Jason the previous few years Travis is contemplating his future in the NFL he's
01:03:07still highly productive we know how prolific that playoff connection has been between Patrick Mahomes
01:03:13and Travis Kelsey he is a face of the National Football League he is a face of sport right now
01:03:18in pop culture because of of course who his girlfriend is you can hate it it is the reality
01:03:25and from a football perspective still moves the needle for Kansas City as much a part perhaps
01:03:32of this historic and dynastic run as Andy Reid as Patrick Mahomes Travis Kelsey certainly
01:03:40in the fold as well Donnie let's just talk about the actual football sense of this if Kansas City
01:03:46wins a Super Bowl do you think we see Travis Kelsey back for the start of the 4p in 2025
01:03:53no doubt about it nobody's giving up on that like you run this until the wheels fall off now he's
01:03:57played a lot of football made a lot of money and if he gets married they're not gonna have to worry
01:04:00about any money issues for the rest of their generation or 15 generations after that but there
01:04:05is something to be said about like you did a lot already if Travis Kelsey retires at the end of
01:04:10this and they lose he's the best guy to ever play the sport nobody's going to question that here
01:04:14he's got multiple Super Bowl rings and a ton of cash still young enough in his life to live it
01:04:18and do whatever he wants for the rest of it and maybe even make more money off the field than he
01:04:22does on the field so there is something to say but he's not going to like usually you win and you
01:04:27retire hey we went back to back that's great like I'm at the end of it here you win three and you
01:04:31still have some energy left in that body you are going to ride this until the wheels fall off at
01:04:34that point so I don't think when they win he's going to retire I finally did enough here if it
01:04:39was his first Super Bowl then yes maybe he would retire at that point but no if they win it he's
01:04:44going to try for a fourth spot really just to add to immortality at that point there is the idea
01:04:50right of going out with glory going out atop the mountain how could you pass this precipice
01:04:55well Kansas City continues to reach that pinnacle year after year after potentially a third
01:05:02consecutive year shout out to Joe Frizzo tracking this down shout out to the FanDuel sportsbook up
01:05:08in Canada if you're taking in your Super Bowl watch festivities out there we have a lot of
01:05:14Canadian viewers here on the network will Travis Kelsey propose to Taylor Swift post Super Bowl
01:05:20there is that actual market on FD Canada no the hefty favorite minus 1500 yeah he's not gonna I
01:05:29don't think he's gonna take that moment as like you figure this engagement is going to be one
01:05:33that's going to be spent somewhere on a rented out island by themselves with 60 photographers
01:05:38ready to capture that moment at all times and also if he is planning this only if they win like hey
01:05:43you know bring the ring here put it out there oops I'll save this for a later time just wanted to let
01:05:47you know three months later I was going to propose you at the Super Bowl if we won that's certainly
01:05:50not going to happen at this point but also the shout out Ian Johnson who is still married to the
01:05:55same woman he did propose to there so showing a little bit of look hey look you could play it
01:06:00getting you know engaged after a meaningless bowl game here getting engaged after losing a Super
01:06:04Bowl sort of weighs the same come on now come on now sort of the 2007 Fiesta Bowl was not meaningless
01:06:11we were having a wonderful conversation until you said that that was back when they were bowls were
01:06:17decided in the BCS era anything could have been come on man I did enjoy that game I did enjoy
01:06:23that come on be honest I stayed up and watched it I didn't have to go to bed early it was a good
01:06:27game we were rooting against Oklahoma so I'll give it a little bit more and again it did add to the
01:06:31future that they still are married to this point so look at that what that a great well players
01:06:35and cheerleaders uh yeah love for it or football players and huge monumental musical artists uh by
01:06:43the way Fandel also has Travis Kelsey to get engaged with Taylor Swift in 2025 minus 125
01:06:51I agree with the family I think it happens I do believe it happens this year
01:06:55down on the knee trap or on the early lineup next we are 10 days away from Super Bowl 59
01:07:01and for the second time in this week in the build up to Super Bowl week in New Orleans
01:07:06Tom Vecchio is here have his thoughts on the prop market for the biggest game of any football season
01:07:12changed has his opinion of what the odds dictate for the outcome and how this game will look in
01:07:18the big easy moved at all Tom Vecchio TV Tom of the Sports Grid Network we're glad to have
01:07:25you here once again on this Thursday of course thanks for having me yeah things are looking I'd
01:07:31say pretty good I was on the uh I was on game time decisions the other night with Kevin and
01:07:35we were breaking down some of the special markets we'll get into some special markets today I'm
01:07:39ready to roll we are in for a really solid game coming up obviously as everyone would anticipate
01:07:45um let's get right into it like no wasting time no wasting time at all Tom Vecchio and the market
01:07:51is basically the same still a point and a half spread in favor of the Chiefs minus 130 now on
01:07:58the money line it was minus 124 for about the previous 48 hours total remains the same at 49
01:08:04and a half the under has slight more vig than that on the over Vecchio it's Thursday of the week
01:08:10before Super Bowl week are you feeling any different at all about this game from how you
01:08:16felt at open at the end of championship weekend not entirely I think things are largely in line
01:08:23with you know what I felt a couple of days ago I'm still waiting for a 50 to pop up on the board
01:08:28to bet that under and then I I really really think this game's going to start off slow like
01:08:34most Super Bowls do just the nerves whatever it might be you know starting off super scripted
01:08:40and then buying into a live over live over 41 42 43 hopefully trying to find a nice middle
01:08:46obviously this is something that I would like to do in an ideal circumstance those numbers may never
01:08:51appear we may never get 50 may stay 49 could come down to 49 and a half we may never get a live 41
01:08:56that's what I want to see happen because that's what I think how teams will start just generally
01:09:00Super Bowls getting off a bit slow so I'm largely in line with what I thought some of the props
01:09:04that move some of the juices move just a little bit but it's generally going in the direction that
01:09:08I anticipated if we do see a number right around 50 as it shows on the fans of sportsbook 49 and a
01:09:14half is a total that means we will get some touchdowns and a touchdown scoring market
01:09:19starts with Saquon Barkley to minus 190 price hurts minus 115 to Eagles in the top of the
01:09:24standings and juiced under there now you take a look at Kelsey Huntworthy AJ Brown and so forth
01:09:29are you playing touchdown props or are you just trying to decide which touchdown props to play
01:09:35yeah I'm on some touchdown props already the Chiefs have been specifically bad against
01:09:40tight ends this year so I'm already on Dallas Goddard for a touchdown just because I like the
01:09:44number I like the matchup I don't want to be going to Barkley or Hertz those are just numbers I don't
01:09:48bet as I've said routinely you know stop laying minus odds on touchdowns the first player I would
01:09:53consider on that list is Xavier Worthy just based on his overall role in the offense and the odds
01:09:57and then he gets to AJ Brown it gets to Dallas Goddard I have a little position on DeAndre
01:10:02Hopkins the veteran I know he hasn't had a huge impact in the playoffs thus far but they brought
01:10:06him in for a reason like you know he deserves a Super Bowl if we're being honest about things
01:10:11in terms of just his career success so getting him at plus 550 for a touchdown I think is a
01:10:15great even though he may hit the under on his yards under on his receptions I still think
01:10:19a TD in the red zone trusted veteran source for Mahomes is a viable outcome so Vecchio a lot of
01:10:27players a lot of betters out there are probably looking at Super Bowl 59 and it might be their
01:10:32first time betting the NFL this season or maybe they're just like hey I gotta get down on the
01:10:36biggest game and they're like oh I want Saquon Barkley to score minus 190 I want Jalen Hurts to
01:10:41score minus 115 you are a great anytime touchdown better which is still a random event even for the
01:10:48best of the best in the biggest game how do you advise betting minus money prices to score a
01:10:55touchdown uh I mean my initial reaction as I said many times across all the pregame shows that I've
01:11:01done with Adam and Dave it's like those aren't good bets you shouldn't be betting them do you
01:11:04want to take a little position on a player to have a first touchdown on a quarter unit bet just
01:11:09because you want to get a little bit of action in there sure that can be fine but ultimately the way
01:11:13I would play a minus odds touchdown is like a very metered approach when it comes to potentially an
01:11:18SGP where you think Saquon will score and the Eagles would win those are very very correlated
01:11:24so you're not going to be getting the best odds but again I don't want to be laying a straight
01:11:26bet on minus 190 minus 200 wherever he might be let's take a look at some of those Super Bowl
01:11:32specials have some fun here with the fan blue sportsbook Tom if you've looked at any of those
01:11:35here anytime pick six six to one 75 plus yard touchdown 17 to one even other ones maybe a
01:11:41Philly special repeat where a quarterback catches a touchdown at 70 to one any fun with any one of
01:11:47these bets that you see here yeah I would say it's along that Philly special 2.0 let's call it let's
01:11:52have a non-quarterback touchdown at 28 to one right non-quarterback passing touchdown
01:11:57absolutely very specific that's different than a quarterback receiving touchdown but
01:12:01our trick play coming out wouldn't be too much of a surprise it is at 20 you know 28 to one it is a
01:12:053.4 implied probability we have to understand like this is an extreme extreme long shot yes
01:12:11we want to have uh you know very I don't say cautious but we want to have like realistic
01:12:16bets that we're betting just as we would any other football game but we also want to have a little
01:12:20bit of fun because it is the last NFL game of the season so I don't mind a non-QB passing TD
01:12:26at 28 to one again Philly special 2.0 love that first carry touchdown for Saquon Barkley
01:12:33at 51 twice what it hit last week we'll see if it continues to do the same or 500 to one price
01:12:40whatever that large number would be
