00:00:00Yesterday in the National Football League was a day of introduction for
00:00:05four NFL teams. The Cowboys, the Jets, the Raiders, and the Jags all introducing
00:00:11their new head coach and general manager to everybody, to the media, to the fan
00:00:17base, to the National Football League as a whole. So here for the entirety of this
00:00:22opening hour we would go to all four spots in Dallas, Jacksonville, New York,
00:00:27and of course Las Vegas to hear from those individuals. And Donnie, of course
00:00:34we have to start at the star. It was one of the weirdest scenes you will ever see
00:00:41yesterday in Dallas. It was basically Jerry Jones trying to prove to everybody
00:00:47once again why he calls the shot, why he has the power to make these coaching
00:00:54decisions. And it was awkward from the very start. Here were the guys getting
00:00:59out on stage just to introduce Brian Schottenheimer. I believe we have, there
00:01:05it is, look at all them kind of sitting down, hanging out. You've got Steven,
00:01:10Jerry's kid, you've got Brian Schottenheimer in the middle, and of
00:01:14course Jerry Jones on the far right. Weird. I mean all of that is, you've got
00:01:21the big room. All of that is super, super strange. And Donnie, as we said, we're not
00:01:28trying to slander Brian Schottenheimer. We'll hear from Dallas's new head coach
00:01:32in just a moment. But it's the situation in the atmosphere behind this coaching
00:01:38hiring that led to a super weird press conference yesterday. But I don't mind
00:01:43the setup, but we have an issue with the setup out there for what they have? Like
00:01:46what was the issue for you on them sitting down together in those
00:01:49chairs? You have an issue with that? No, I don't have an issue with that. I don't
00:01:53think Steven Jones needs to be there. He doesn't do anything except being daddy's
00:01:57errand boy. I think it's the fact they sit down, right, here we go, all of us all
00:02:02together. Steven Jones really doesn't do anything. They sit here, nobody shakes
00:02:06hands. They go down, and now Brian Schottenheimer's like, this is weird. Let me
00:02:10tap you guys. And then Jerry goes, you've got the big room, as in like, welcome to
00:02:15being the Cowboys new head coach. Yeah, like if we're reading body language too,
00:02:19like the fact that Jerry Jones needs to drink water immediately the second he
00:02:22sits down means like, oh boy, this is going to be tough. I better prepare
00:02:25myself because I'm going to get questions as opposed to probably let me
00:02:29sit down and be like, you know what, let me start this press conference off
00:02:31myself. We just hit the biggest home run in Dallas Cowboys history right now with
00:02:35this head coaching hire of Ben Johnson. Oops, didn't work out that way.
00:02:40Absolutely. So when you are drinking water, you are getting ready to speak a
00:02:44ton. And Donnie, an introductory press conference should be the best one of
00:02:50your career. It should be excitement. It should be optimism. It should be
00:02:54questions about the direction of a franchise from a positive perspective.
00:02:59From the very jump, it was not that yesterday at the star. But again, here
00:03:04is Brian Schottenheimer, a guy that has worked in Dallas the last three years,
00:03:07the previous two as the offensive coordinator on his direction for Dallas
00:03:13moving forward.
00:03:14You don't belong in this organization if you don't value relationships. This
00:03:18business has never been about X's and O's. It's about people. And when I
00:03:23thought about it, I can't imagine sitting up here with a better group of
00:03:27people, a better family to do this with. So I thank you guys for that
00:03:31opportunity. And lastly, the type of people that we want people that love
00:03:37this game. The game of football has given me so much my family so much. But
00:03:42if you're not passionate about the game of football, and the shield and
00:03:45what it represents, then you're probably in the wrong line of business.
00:03:51You take Brian Schottenheimer for his word, of course, his father, Marty
00:03:55Schottenheimer, a legend in head coaching circles around the National
00:03:59Football League. Schottenheimer himself has been in the NFL since 1997. 24
00:04:05years as an assistant nearly a decade and a half, working as an offensive
00:04:10coordinator, a big opportunity for him. But you heard it right there. I could
00:04:14not think of a better family to be around. That is why he is the head coach
00:04:18of the Dallas Cowboys, because he still believes in Jerry Jones.
00:04:22Yeah, and you would if he hired you and paid you all that money to say, you
00:04:25know what, coach, my football team is not going to sum up there's you know
00:04:28what, man, I looked around the league, but it's a shame. Suran has never gotten
00:04:31fired there. I always wanted that job, but I had to settle for the Dallas
00:04:33Cowboys. And maybe I'll be the first one to make it back to the Super Bowl. Now
00:04:37there is something of that, you know, cachet being the Cowboys coach, even
00:04:40though for the past 30 years, it's been a disaster job overall because you
00:04:43can't win anything and you're expected to win and you go back to the 1990s.
00:04:47That's some sex suits me some success. And now there's no success at this
00:04:51point. So I think he's actually coming in at a good time because let's just
00:04:53say he was, you know, four out of the last five years or like a Kansas City
00:04:57type Super Bowl run in Dallas. Like I have a lot of expectations hold up to
00:05:01you have no expectations in Dallas. It should be a dream job because, yes,
00:05:05it's an NFL head coaching job. But what are your parameters? If you get to an
00:05:08NFC championship game, do they build a statue outside the stadium for Brian
00:05:13Schottenheimer? Because 99.9% of Dallas fans today have never seen a Super Bowl
00:05:17championship, let alone an NFC championship appearance. So as long as
00:05:21he comes in and can possibly get them to one of the next 2 to 3 years, he's a
00:05:25legend in Dallas. That's a loser franchise. Absolutely. So DRS because
00:05:30they have not reached a conference championship since 1995. But it was very
00:05:35simple. And Jerry Jones understood what the question would be. How did you get
00:05:41Brian Schottenheimer? Why did you hire Brian Schottenheimer? What was the
00:05:45scenario behind this decision? All right, Jerry, take it away.
00:05:51That proverbial ass kick over needing people in my comfort zone.
00:05:59Without this thing being about me in any way, if you don't think I can't
00:06:04operate out of my comfort zone, you're so wrong. It's unbelievable.
00:06:09This is as big a risk as you could take.
00:06:14As big a risk as you could take no head coaching experience.
00:06:19That let me share something with you.
00:06:22With all of that, you've just heard him reference his osmosis, his family.
00:06:28Anybody in this room that doesn't believe the apple doesn't go far from
00:06:31the tree has missed it someplace down the road, especially if there was an
00:06:35effort to make it that way. And there was an effort.
00:06:39But then you go around to the countless numbers of coaches that shoddy has
00:06:43served on staff with and been around the countless players.
00:06:47How often do you have someone that has 25 or say 25, it may be 26 of years
00:06:56of working through the human relationship and working, aspiring to to
00:07:01learn or have his ears and eyes wide open and looking for techniques and
00:07:05looking for things that make coaches better.
00:07:09We wanted you to hear all of that. We're coming up on the commercial break.
00:07:13Our reactions to what Jerry Jones had to say yesterday in Dallas.
00:07:18Yeah, those are coming up.
00:07:19Four new NFL head coaches introduced yesterday at their various new jobs,
00:07:25including in Dallas and what a theatrical show.
00:07:28It was right before the commercial break.
00:07:31We played you a minute and 17 second video in answer from Jerry Jones.
00:07:36That was a port Donnie of a 10 minute emotional ramble that led Jerry Jones
00:07:42to have some tears that led to Jerry Jones basically telling everybody you
00:07:47don't know ball and I do.
00:07:50It was a minute and 17 that we showed of a 10 minute answer simply to a
00:07:56question that said, why did you hire Brian Schottenheimer?
00:08:00If he seemed a little bit defensive, maybe we can understand why.
00:08:06I got to tell you one thing.
00:08:07I have no idea what Jerry Jones said in that minute plus clip at that point.
00:08:10You know what?
00:08:11I did see a visual Dak Prescott smiling in the first row with a Washington
00:08:14commander's hat or from what I saw there.
00:08:16So there you go, Jerry.
00:08:17So happy.
00:08:18I'm rooting for Washington to win the NFC championship game and so bad.
00:08:21It's funny where you give because Jerry's always been in the spotlight
00:08:25and that's one of the detriments that if you are a coach for the Cowboys,
00:08:28like usually the owner stays in the background and he will meet with you
00:08:31privately and get his thoughts on what the team should be and maybe calling
00:08:34the place himself, but it never gets released.
00:08:37Like Jerry's the guy that is the first interview after the game ends.
00:08:40No players.
00:08:41No coaches.
00:08:41He gets that then he has his own radio show and tells you the State of the
00:08:45Union address for his team every single week.
00:08:47So for the fact that he's basically saying I have to have this press
00:08:51conference.
00:08:52I need the microphone because I know how bad this hire was like, you know,
00:08:56we do segments on pro football today on the Sunday desk, you know, sell me
00:08:59something.
00:09:00Jerry Jones has had his own sell me something on why he hired him as a head
00:09:03coach and why you should continue to be the general manager make every
00:09:07decision which included.
00:09:09Well, I wanted to be a coach at one time, but I wanted a big car and a big
00:09:11house and but but by the way coaches now do have big cars and big houses,
00:09:15which I don't know where he was going with that at this point here.
00:09:17So he was rambling all the way through but it was simple.
00:09:20You should have sat up there and goes I don't need to speak today.
00:09:23This man is such a good coach.
00:09:24He now has the microphone and the Dallas Cowboys when Jerry was like, well,
00:09:28I need to go out here and put on a show just to make sure people understand
00:09:31why I hired Schottenheimer at the end of the press conference.
00:09:33I still don't know why he hired Brian Schottenheimer.
00:09:35How about that?
00:09:37And it actually worked in reverse the RS because everything that he tried
00:09:40to say from that defensive approach almost made it seem even worse in the
00:09:45answer.
00:09:45He gave right there calling it the greatest risk of his career to hire a
00:09:50head coach with zero head coaching experience, despite 14 seasons as an
00:09:55NFL offensive coordinator.
00:09:57Jerry, you just made yourself sound incredibly dumb at the earnest of
00:10:02trying to say that you are operating outside of your comfort zone, but
00:10:06you're really not because you're bringing in a guy that has been within
00:10:10your organization that had no other head coaching buzz outside of Dallas.
00:10:16So you're almost speaking in circles to make the decision sound foolish.
00:10:22If you thought that was bad and Jerry said it the Apple don't fall all that
00:10:26far from the tree.
00:10:28All right, Stevie, you're up.
00:10:30Here's Steven Jones in Dallas yesterday.
00:10:33You know, you always have to evaluate, you know, where where it didn't go
00:10:38right last year and obviously we're also evaluating where it didn't go
00:10:42right, you know, in terms of, you know, this drought that people say we're
00:10:47in in terms of a championship game or a Super Bowl and you know, we just
00:10:51have to continue to make this roster better.
00:10:55It'll certainly be something that Jerry myself will and his staff and
00:11:00now coach shoddy and his staff, you know, we'll sit down and take a look
00:11:04and see what we have to do better.
00:11:07I think we got a lot of great pieces.
00:11:08You ask why shoddy?
00:11:09I think shoddy is the perfect combination of keeping some continuity,
00:11:16but also affecting change and we have to support that as well.
00:11:22Now that answer made everybody in Dallas as mad as you could possibly be
00:11:27more than Jerry Jones getting emotional more than his weird ramblings on why
00:11:31he should have been a head coach back in 1977.
00:11:34Steven Jones saying in air quotes the drought the Dallas Cowboys are on since
00:11:41last winning a Lombardi trophy in 1995 never even reaching the NFC
00:11:46championship game.
00:11:48Yeah, Donnie that drew the ire of Dallas in so rightfully so.
00:11:54And the thing I took away from that too is it's completely delusional.
00:11:57But this is again professional sports being an owner is a different realm
00:12:01than anywhere.
00:12:02You've ever been if you are the CEO, let's just say a Starbucks or AT&T
00:12:06or whatever and you have to self-evaluate why because oh my god, we
00:12:10lost so much money last year.
00:12:11I'm going to get fired unless I make changes the Dallas Cowboys every year
00:12:15will print money.
00:12:16So for the owner and the owner son to say we're going to self-evaluate to
00:12:20see what's happening here.
00:12:21There's no pressure to make any changes whatsoever.
00:12:24If the Cowboys go Owen 17 next year, they will make more money than any
00:12:27other NFL team because that's what they do being the biggest brand in
00:12:30sports.
00:12:31My takeaway here is the whole place is delusional down there because why
00:12:34there's no accountability.
00:12:37We'll continue next on the early line.
00:12:40Drought is defined as a noun a prolonged period of abnormally low
00:12:46rainfall leading to a shortage of water.
00:12:49That is the definition of drought.
00:12:51But in football terms, if we were to take out the words rainfall and
00:12:56substitute it perhaps for playoff victories in shortage of water to
00:13:01shortage of Super Bowls that would Define the Dallas Cowboys.
00:13:06I believe that Stephen Jones needs a dictionary next to his side at every
00:13:12single moment because Donnie America's team in Brandon in a team that had
00:13:18great success throughout the 80s and 90s led by Jerry Jones, but of
00:13:23course, Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer, Troy Aikman Emmett Smith, Michael
00:13:28Irvin the list goes on and on at the star.
00:13:32There was only the pinnacle of the sport of which the Cowboys were
00:13:36defined by well their last Super Bowl championship as has been well
00:13:40documented 1995 in the 29 NFL seasons since nearly going on three
00:13:47decades.
00:13:48The Cowboys have never reached an NFC championship game.
00:13:53In fact, it now gets even worse because Jaden Daniels leading the
00:13:57commanders to the NFC title game.
00:13:59This season was Washington's first bid to the conference championship
00:14:03since 1991.
00:14:06The Cowboys are now the only team in the NFC 16 organizations on that
00:14:11side of the league.
00:14:12The Cowboys are the only team in the NFC DRS since 2010 to not make the
00:14:18NFC championship game and their drought because it is a drought goes back
00:14:2415 years even prior to that.
00:14:27It's specifically on the ownership group and that ownership group
00:14:30obviously is Jerry Jones understand this in the evolution of Jerry Jones.
00:14:34He had some great ideas starting when he first bought the Dallas Cowboys
00:14:38everybody was furious that they got rid of Tom Landry, but the time had
00:14:41run out for Landry for the Dallas Cowboys.
00:14:43They wanted a new look for that franchise.
00:14:45He reaches out to his old college football buddy who was dominating
00:14:48college football in Jimmy Johnson and understand this usually you'd be
00:14:52so happy to be an owner like I swung and hit the biggest home run you're
00:14:56ever going to see I have the best coach in the NFL that understands what
00:15:00talent means to him and how these football players will play on winning
00:15:02Super Bowl after Super Bowl, but you know what every time I read those
00:15:06press clip press clippings been it says Jimmy Johnson is getting all the
00:15:10credit here.
00:15:11I want the credit.
00:15:12I own this team.
00:15:13So this is pre salary cap era fires.
00:15:15Jimmy Johnson, which is unbelievable brings in Barry Switzer.
00:15:18The team was so talented.
00:15:20They want in spite of Barry Switzer salary cap comes in.
00:15:23They haven't won since then.
00:15:24The reason I bring that up is because Jimmy Johnson would sit in that room
00:15:27and be like Jerry, you're my good friend here.
00:15:29I am making every decision here and we are winning Super Bowls stay out
00:15:33of this equation.
00:15:35So then they go down a little bit of a lull and they go, you know what
00:15:37Jerry Jones I'm going to learn from the past here.
00:15:39Let me bring in a coach that's going to stand in front strong have his
00:15:43opinions and lead us to a championship.
00:15:45That was Bill Parcells.
00:15:47It didn't work out.
00:15:47And if you remember the famous quote when he was let go which tells you
00:15:51everything you need to know about the ownership group if they want you
00:15:54to cook the dinner at least they ought to let you shop for some of the
00:15:56groceries.
00:15:57So basically Bill Parcells multi-time Super Bowl champion NFL, you know
00:16:02Hall of Fame head coach and Jerry Jones was saying Bill.
00:16:05I don't care who you want it left tackle.
00:16:07I make those decisions.
00:16:08I make every decision is franchise and process like I don't need this
00:16:12anymore.
00:16:12I'm leaving that should tell you everything over the past 20 years now
00:16:15since Bill Parcells was there is wrong with Dallas because the coach is
00:16:19brought in as a lapdog for the Jones boys.
00:16:23Brian Schottenheimer will now be the seventh head coach in Dallas Barry
00:16:27Switzer after he won that Super Bowl was there for a few more years and
00:16:31then let go Brian Schottenheimer will now be the seventh head coach since
00:16:35Switzer was let go in the late 1990s.
00:16:38And you might say for an organization that judges itself and evaluates
00:16:43itself as it would seem only by championships in the NFC or at least
00:16:49a Super Bowl championship as well.
00:16:51That's not all that many head coaches.
00:16:54He's Jerry loyal.
00:16:56Jerry's not loyal.
00:16:57Jerry likes Leverage DRS said it beautifully.
00:17:00It is delusional in Dallas.
00:17:03They are sacrificing wins and significant playoff victories just for
00:17:08control and still making sure the bottom line is great Cowboys fans.
00:17:14I really do feel for you.
00:17:16I do because you have an owner that is sabotaging his own success just
00:17:20so he can tell you that he's the most successful man in the room the
00:17:25ego in the elite nature of which both the Jones family put on display
00:17:29yesterday is not one that I am jealous of in one that I feel sorry for
00:17:35that Cowboys fans have to deal with DRS any final thoughts on Dallas and
00:17:40Brian Schottenheimer before we turn our attention to Aaron Glen and his
00:17:44introductory press conference with the New York Jets yesterday.
00:17:47It just real quick on the Cowboys because it is amazing how they still
00:17:51have such a strong fan base.
00:17:52Like my daughter's 13 years old.
00:17:53I said you don't understand how lucky you are to grow up in the Eagles
00:17:56household with three Super Bowl appearances since 2017.
00:17:59I told her when I was growing up like just learning about football the
00:18:02first Super Bowl.
00:18:03I watch start to finish was the Chicago Bears and the New England Patriots,
00:18:06but every year was like, okay, you get a Super Bowl party, but never even
00:18:10thought of that.
00:18:10The Eagles could ever sniff even playing in the Super Bowl at this time.
00:18:14I can't imagine for like the Dallas Cowboys house because you still get
00:18:17it now and eventually it will change like we got five Super Bowl like
00:18:21nobody remembers any of that.
00:18:22There are no cat like I'm not even sure like you have to go back to a
00:18:25VCR and plug that in to see anything of success for the Dallas Cowboys.
00:18:30It has been that long here.
00:18:31So that whole like once they finally get to the pinnacle with the ratings
00:18:35will be there as I joke like 99% of the Cowboys fans never remember
00:18:39anything resembling a championship team or organization from where the
00:18:43storied football programs that we've ever seen in the NFL.
00:18:46It's wild how things change but the Dallas Cowboys to never play in an
00:18:49NSC championship game for 30 years with that franchise that spends more
00:18:53money and has more branding power than anybody that players like Derek
00:18:56Henry, like I'll take a pay cut to play for the Cowboys and Jerry Jones
00:18:59like don't think you're good enough for you go down was better than you
00:19:02like that's just the craziness of the Cowboys run for the past 30 years
00:19:05needs to be examined.
00:19:07And as you said is Jerry Jones and his decision-making that is actively
00:19:12working against his own success trying to guide the Cowboys to a Super
00:19:17Bowl.
00:19:17We will talk about Brian Schottenheimer and Dallas's expectations
00:19:21entering the 2025 NFL campaign a little bit later on Aaron Glenn also
00:19:27introduced yesterday in New York all signs around Aaron Glenn is that he
00:19:34possesses the mentality to invigorate an organization to fire up his team.
00:19:40He tried to do that in front of the media yesterday as well players.
00:19:43That's here.
00:19:44Now put your seatbelts on and get ready for the ride.
00:19:49Put your seatbelts on and get ready for the ride.
00:19:50Listen, there are going to be some challenges, but with challenges
00:19:54becomes opportunity gets opportunity.
00:19:57But here's what I do know.
00:19:59We're the freaking New York Jets.
00:20:00So we're built for this.
00:20:06Now that that's some heat right there.
00:20:09That is some passion.
00:20:11That is some vigor from Aaron Glenn more than they have had in New York
00:20:15in a long time.
00:20:16Of course, the word that was bleeped out rhymes with hit DRS.
00:20:20What did you make of Aaron?
00:20:22What?
00:20:23And Pat McAfee would play that.
00:20:24Come on now.
00:20:25Let's step our game up here.
00:20:27Former sports grid.
00:20:28Well, not employee, but Pat McAfee formerly on the sports grid network.
00:20:32We're a family-friendly program though.
00:20:34But DRS, what did you make of Aaron Glenn's introductory statement to
00:20:37everybody in the New York metropolitan area?
00:20:41Refreshing and the reason I say this the guys played in New York.
00:20:44I love that.
00:20:45But also what was missing from the New York Jets?
00:20:47I don't know since for since Rex Ryan.
00:20:50Let's just say left and the Mark Sanchez team that went to the AFC
00:20:52championship game accountability.
00:20:55That team was so talented been over the past years and
00:20:57understandably and you know, Aaron Rodgers going down on a number three
00:21:01basically of their season two years ago that really set the franchise
00:21:04back but you couldn't see coming into the season.
00:21:06Let me get this straight every single position.
00:21:08They can win at their defense is phenomenal.
00:21:10Aaron Rodgers is healthy weapons at wide receiver a young fresh
00:21:14backfield that you have an offensive line that's rebuilt but nobody
00:21:17had any accountability for the losses.
00:21:19You would watch them play an inferior opponent with talent and just
00:21:21get wasted after going like I don't understand because it's accountability.
00:21:25The one thing I love about Aaron Glenn coming over from Detroit is
00:21:28there was a count as much as I hated some of the things that Detroit
00:21:31did there was accountability in that room.
00:21:33Those players played for that coach and played for that city.
00:21:35That's what the Jets are missing.
00:21:37And I think that's not going to no longer.
00:21:38I think that's the point in key made yesterday is going forward.
00:21:42The Jets will have accountability and I'm looking forward to see
00:21:44Aaron Glenn with the green.
00:21:47And you need to ingratiate yourself.
00:21:49To New York.
00:21:50They get behind that kind of fervor.
00:21:53We'll see if it actually works.
00:21:55And of course, we'll hear from the owner.
00:21:57Woody Johnson up next.
00:21:59We continue with all of the quotes in the sound bites that you need
00:22:04from yesterday's introductory press conferences around the NFL for
00:22:08new head coaches introduced.
00:22:10We spent a while in Dallas rightfully.
00:22:13So now we are in New York.
00:22:15We just heard from Aaron Glenn trying to fire up gangrene's fan
00:22:19base.
00:22:20Here's owner.
00:22:21Woody Johnson on the future of the New York Jets in namely the
00:22:25quarterback position that being Aaron Rodgers personal feeling
00:22:29about Aaron Rodgers return.
00:22:32I'm going to leave that to them.
00:22:33You know, they've got to take a look at how the team's composed
00:22:36and what they think they need and put all that together.
00:22:40Would you all buy you'll be would you welcome Aaron Rodgers back
00:22:44if your coach and general manager would like to go that route?
00:22:47Absolutely.
00:22:48Yeah, he wants him if they want to bag Aaron said Aaron's a talent
00:22:51for sure.
00:22:52He's a Hall of Famer.
00:22:53Will you will you voice your opinion on that?
00:22:55Woody?
00:22:56Or is it really just on specific?
00:22:57I said, no, I'm not going to voice my opinion.
00:22:59No, it's that's up to them.
00:23:02Listen, we take Woody Johnson at his word.
00:23:05That's a really good sign for Aaron Glenn and new Jets general
00:23:09manager who was introduced yesterday.
00:23:11Darren movie.
00:23:12So that's good news.
00:23:13I guess if you are the Jets will talk about Aaron Glenn's reaction
00:23:17to all the questions about his QB in just a moment, but Donnie
00:23:21you were shaking your head in reaction to Woody Johnson.
00:23:24Please explain further.
00:23:26This is why the Jets have been run this way under Woody Johnson.
00:23:30You are the owner.
00:23:31Of course, you're going to be there that microphone gets in your
00:23:33face and says I hired these gentlemen to make football decisions.
00:23:38It doesn't matter what I think whatever path they choose.
00:23:41I will support it 100% because he started to go down that path
00:23:45and then a reporter asked him.
00:23:47Would you like Aaron Rodgers back?
00:23:49Absolutely.
00:23:49If they want to back you just undermined your entire football
00:23:52staff in one five-second clip right there.
00:23:55Why did that let slip get out?
00:23:57Because now, you know behind the scenes the influences that I
00:24:00actually go through that GM meeting of like, what do you want
00:24:02from Aaron Rodgers and movie goes?
00:24:03Well, I hope I guess that's right.
00:24:05Love him to come back next year.
00:24:07That's my GM right there.
00:24:08Hired right there.
00:24:09Under understand what your job is it?
00:24:11You could go behind the scenes and wreck your entire franchise
00:24:14and it doesn't matter but just don't do it in front of the
00:24:16public.
00:24:17We're now your answer was absolutely.
00:24:19You would welcome it back.
00:24:20It wasn't even kept.
00:24:22Let's just say if I ask Kevin on the desk on Sunday, like hey,
00:24:24what are you trying to do here with this general manager here?
00:24:26Forget about that.
00:24:27We're Joe.
00:24:28I'm asking you been like what happens if I would have told you
00:24:30that my owner is absolutely saying absolutely.
00:24:32I would welcome this guy back or absolutely.
00:24:35I don't want him back.
00:24:36The answer would have been to anybody here that I ask.
00:24:38What are you doing here?
00:24:40Just say it's I hired these guys to run the football team.
00:24:43We'll find out what they do over the next coming weeks here.
00:24:46Instead.
00:24:47He said absolutely.
00:24:48I'd welcome it back.
00:24:49If my general manager wants him, which means no, you're putting
00:24:52that thought out there.
00:24:53You want him back and you hope your general manager does too
00:24:56awful awful.
00:24:58Right and based on all the reports, by the way about how
00:25:01things soured with Robert Salah, how the end of this disastrous
00:25:05season played out in Florham Park.
00:25:07Woody Johnson does not seem to be a hands-off owner.
00:25:11Might he have other business to attend to in a certain appointment
00:25:16of diplomatic nature in a foreign land that could save the New
00:25:19York Jets and Aaron Glenn start to his job that remains to be
00:25:24seen.
00:25:25Aaron Glenn was asked numerous times in the actual press conference
00:25:29meeting with reporters off the stage yesterday about the quarterback
00:25:33situation Aaron Glenn on Aaron Rodgers quote.
00:25:36This thing is not about Aaron Rodgers.
00:25:38This is about the roster.
00:25:40He was asked further and basically said you're not going to get
00:25:44me.
00:25:44I'm not telling you specifically what we are doing at the
00:25:48quarterback position.
00:25:50I don't necessarily know what they are going to do.
00:25:52But one thing I would hope for Aaron Glenn because I like the
00:25:56guy.
00:25:57I hope he will be a successful head coach.
00:25:59He should get rid of Aaron Rodgers.
00:26:01It is not worth having Aaron Rodgers on your payroll as a part
00:26:05of your team.
00:26:06Certainly not as a leader in your locker room.
00:26:08The experiment has failed.
00:26:11Is there a quarterback out there at the moment better than Aaron?
00:26:15I take Sam Darnold back in New York more than I would Aaron
00:26:18Rodgers or Kirk Cousins or somebody else.
00:26:21Donnie.
00:26:21I don't believe Aaron Rodgers is the answer at this present time
00:26:25for the New York Jets moving forward with a rookie head coach
00:26:28and Aaron Glenn.
00:26:30He's not but hear me out on this.
00:26:32Sometimes, you know human element comes in here.
00:26:34If you bring Aaron Rodgers back, you have a free year for the
00:26:37general manager and the quarterback.
00:26:39If it works out, you're geniuses.
00:26:40If it doesn't, what did you want to happen?
00:26:42Aaron Rodgers was fried.
00:26:43We couldn't get rid of him due to the salary cap restraints,
00:26:45but I'll tell you this right now.
00:26:47This will tell me a lot about this organization and the
00:26:49confidence of the general manager and the head coach because
00:26:52Ben, if they do move off him and just to say cut him or trade
00:26:55him and they take that massive cap it understanding that this
00:26:58is the best thing for our football team.
00:27:00I love decisions like that.
00:27:02But also I can't put the easy decision for preserving your
00:27:05job is I'm going to get an extra year.
00:27:06If I keep Aaron Rodgers around here.
00:27:08I do want to see what they do because either way you can
00:27:11argue for or against it.
00:27:12But if they cut Aaron Rodgers, that means, you know, the
00:27:16general manager and the head coach are in charge and they
00:27:18are going to strip this thing down to the studs and rebuilt
00:27:21it in their shape or form.
00:27:23That's what I'm hoping to look forward to over the next two
00:27:25to three weeks is this decision can't be prolonged either
00:27:28by the way.
00:27:29Certainly so DRS and Aaron Rodgers.
00:27:31Unlike the last time he went to the darkness and then emerged
00:27:35out of it said he will not keep the New York Jets.
00:27:39Aaron Rodgers is not exactly the most truthful guy in the
00:27:42world, but we'll see if he holds up his end of the bargain
00:27:45this time around and that's also a component of this conversation,
00:27:48right?
00:27:49Aaron Rodgers might say I'm 41 years old.
00:27:53I don't really have it in the tank anymore.
00:27:56I'm good.
00:27:56I'm going to focus on other things outside of football.
00:27:59He could elect to retire.
00:28:01What a gift that would be to Darren Moogey and Aaron Glenn
00:28:04in their first year in New York.
00:28:07The Jets, by the way, hold the seventh overall draft pick.
00:28:10So not necessarily in line as of this moment to select a
00:28:14quarterback in the opening round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
00:28:18All right, we're coming up in this final minute on the break.
00:28:21It might be a little bit tight to hear from a couple of other
00:28:24head coaches that were introduced yesterday.
00:28:27That includes Pete Carroll in Las Vegas and Liam Cohen in
00:28:31Jacksonville.
00:28:32We will hear from both of those gentlemen on the other side
00:28:35of the break.
00:28:36We've heard from Pete Carroll a ton, not necessarily Liam
00:28:40Cohen.
00:28:40You know one thing that stood out to me Donnie because we're
00:28:42going to make some fun of Liam Cohen and he deserves it on
00:28:45the other side of the break.
00:28:46Although, you know, Liam Cohen is you really haven't heard
00:28:49him speak all that often and anytime you hear a guy speak
00:28:53for the first time just a little bit off-putting.
00:28:57Yeah, maybe so you can't match it up here.
00:28:59It's like sometimes you get confused like how good is that
00:29:02football player?
00:29:03Why haven't I known about this football player before catches
00:29:05me off guard all the time, man.
00:29:06I'm going to tell you that right now.
00:29:08Yes, it certainly does.
00:29:09Once you peel back the curtain or lift the lid in certain
00:29:14parts, you start to learn a lot.
00:29:16We'll learn from Pete Carroll, Liam Cohen.
00:29:19Four introductory press conferences yesterday for four new
00:29:22NFL head coaches in their new spots three of the four first
00:29:28time NFL head coach.
00:29:30The other one that's Pete Carroll who has been an NFL coach
00:29:34for nearly two decades spent 14 seasons in Seattle.
00:29:38Of course was let go at the end of the 2023 NFL campaign and
00:29:43now it's 73 years young is in Las Vegas as the Raiders new
00:29:49head coach.
00:29:50Let's hear from Pete.
00:29:52We'll do so right now mark figured out how valuable it would
00:29:56be to put Tom Brady in this mix and bring that kind of football
00:30:00background in history.
00:30:02Mark made a great move and that's it's our job to celebrate
00:30:07that for for Mark and to make sure that this comes to life
00:30:10the way it can with great possibilities and great future
00:30:13and and the immediate future as well.
00:30:15So I'm my hats off to you guys.
00:30:18I'm so fired up that we're doing this together and and it's
00:30:22it's going to be unique and they're going to be surprised
00:30:25what comes.
00:30:28Drs of all the press conferences yesterday Pete and his new
00:30:32GM John Spytek seemed like they had a handle on the situation
00:30:37better than most as would not be surprising for a guy that's
00:30:40been doing this in the National Football League for nearly
00:30:43two decades.
00:30:44And of course even longer at the collegiate level.
00:30:47You said it Pete Carroll finding this job in Las Vegas.
00:30:50Not necessarily about the football, but the perks that come
00:30:53with it and just providing that stable Foundation in Sin City.
00:30:57Do you think Pete Carroll will have the opportunity to do
00:31:00so? Looks like going home and you sit on your couch and you
00:31:03say, you know what?
00:31:04I just dropped my phone in between the little you know,
00:31:06seams here you go look for your phone.
00:31:08You find a $20 bill.
00:31:09That's what Pete Carroll do that.
00:31:10I can't even believe I'm head coaching again.
00:31:12You kidding me?
00:31:13It's gonna be the most fun ever.
00:31:14Wait, do you see the surprises and the pizza parties?
00:31:16We're going to have on Fridays and Saturday.
00:31:17Oh, wait P.
00:31:18Oh, sorry.
00:31:19We're coaching an NFL football team at this point here and
00:31:21I said this.
00:31:21Yeah, I love the hire for the Raiders.
00:31:23I think it's a fantastic hire because you're going nowhere,
00:31:26but you need somebody to steward that ship and say, you
00:31:28know what?
00:31:29I'm at least guiding this in the right direction and I will
00:31:31make sure I leave this in a better place than I found it
00:31:34here.
00:31:34That's what I like about it.
00:31:36So to get excited as a Raiders fan that Pete Carroll's your
00:31:38head coach not necessarily at this point, but obviously Tom
00:31:41Brady's pulling the strings a complete winner on and off
00:31:44the football field.
00:31:45That's a guy that I do want to work for in an organization
00:31:47as I said again, Pete's not winning anything.
00:31:50His only job is to be a steward of that franchise to make
00:31:53sure it's better in two years when he gets fired.
00:31:56It felt comforting though to see Pete Carroll back in NFL
00:32:00circles.
00:32:01We'll see what Las Vegas does three-year contract fourth
00:32:04year team option.
00:32:06How involved is the new minority owner in Tom Brady his
00:32:09buddy from college?
00:32:10And of course during their time in Tampa together John
00:32:13Spytek the new GM the guy you saw to the right of Pete
00:32:16Carroll in yesterday's introductory presser Liam Cohen
00:32:21first-year head coach now in Jacksonville wild situation
00:32:25that led to Cohen as we know last week in a 48-hour window
00:32:30to become the new head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars in
00:32:34what County in Florida?
00:32:37Jacksonville the community.
00:32:40Do ball.
00:32:46Love it.
00:32:47Oh, I love it, man.
00:32:50There's always there's always one right every time you go
00:32:53around the NFL and you have seven vacancies one still
00:32:57outstanding.
00:32:57By the way, that would be the New Orleans Saints.
00:32:59You're always going to have one press conference in one
00:33:02clip and one soundbite where you go people II you better
00:33:06hope this works out or that's going to be circulated
00:33:09a ton Liam Cohen saying do all was that yesterday?
00:33:15He's got to feel good though.
00:33:16Because honestly like is it your dream job to take over
00:33:19the Jacksonville Jaguars?
00:33:20Not necessarily when you're growing up as a kid like that's
00:33:22a head coaching job.
00:33:23I want but understand how he fell into this job an owner
00:33:26that is basically beholden to him by saying like whatever
00:33:29you tell me I'm going to make changes here.
00:33:31You want the general manager fired.
00:33:33You want my son fired from the organization.
00:33:35I probably will do that as well.
00:33:37More money than and Johnson's going to get at this point
00:33:39understand it.
00:33:40Do you want me to sell AEW wrestling?
00:33:42I will do that tomorrow with some of the people working
00:33:45here at the sports grid Network, but I like I think it's
00:33:48a great job for Lee and Coleman at this point now because
00:33:50he has every say he wants more money than you can possibly
00:33:54dream of job security out the wazoo and also pretty talented
00:33:58roster to get started with so I think he's a big winner
00:34:00here.
00:34:02Listen, I'll just say this.
00:34:03I know somebody who's not going to be involved in the TK
00:34:05interview on Radio Row in the big easy, but outside of
00:34:09that moment, which of course Liam Cohen got shelled for
00:34:13on social media rather embarrassing for him.
00:34:16He actually did have a lot of worth to say yesterday,
00:34:19especially about building this organization centralized
00:34:22around Trevor Lawrence a guy that he saw when he was
00:34:25recruiting as the offensive coordinator for Maine back
00:34:29in 2015 2016 a guy that he believes in thoroughly again
00:34:34promising building blocks for Jacksonville our number two.
00:34:37That's a mess.
00:34:39We welcome you to our number two live right here on a Tuesday
00:34:42morning on the early line on sports grid.
00:34:45He is Donnie right side.
00:34:46I am Ben Stevens yesterday a Monday afternoon chock-full
00:34:51of introductory press conferences around the NFL for new
00:34:55head coaches in four new locations introduced yesterday
00:34:59Brian Schottenheimer and an emotional presser in Dallas
00:35:03Aaron Glenn trying to fire everybody up with the New York
00:35:07Jets Liam Cohen making his presence known in Jacksonville
00:35:12and Pete Carroll there in Las Vegas.
00:35:15Now we go elsewhere around the NFL at this current moment
00:35:20Patrick Graham who served as the defensive coordinator
00:35:23for the Raiders this past season also interviewed yesterday
00:35:26to be the new DC in Duval County to be on Liam Cohen's
00:35:32staff Donnie.
00:35:32We talked about Liam Cohen.
00:35:33And of course the funny sound bite where he got a little
00:35:37bit embarrassed yesterday around social media for what he
00:35:40said, but again, you said it I will back it up.
00:35:44I think Liam Cohen spoke about that yesterday as well.
00:35:47There is a lot to be optimistic by in Jacksonville Trevor
00:35:52Lawrence.
00:35:52Yes, he has struggled but if fully healthy, he is the face
00:35:57of the franchise.
00:35:57There was talent on that roster.
00:35:59The one thing actively holding back.
00:36:01The Jaguars was the GM Trent Balky who Liam Cohen got fired
00:36:06to become the head coach in Jacksonville.
00:36:09I actually do believe the Jags are going to be a competitive
00:36:12roster moving forward into 2025.
00:36:15Absolutely.
00:36:15Like you had the spicy high right in Urban Meyer didn't
00:36:18work out.
00:36:19So you had to resettle the franchise with Doug Peterson
00:36:21and in the end it didn't work out.
00:36:23Now you're going with the tactician on offense to take
00:36:25that team to the next level.
00:36:26So I like the progression that Jacksonville is showing where
00:36:28it's like, okay, we really whiffed.
00:36:30We got to go safe.
00:36:31Now that we want safe.
00:36:32Let's get back on the winning path and have one of these
00:36:34young up-and-coming coaches that hopefully would turns out
00:36:37that he could coach your 10 to 15 years if it goes right.
00:36:40There's a lot to be optimistic about if you're a Jaguars
00:36:43backer at this point.
00:36:44I'm not a backroom Jaguars, but I like what's going on
00:36:46down there.
00:36:47I do.
00:36:48I will be interested to see what the wind total is eight
00:36:51and a half nine and a half where the number floated around
00:36:53this offseason expecting a bounce back from the Jags after
00:36:57a disappointing end to 2023.
00:36:59Of course, it was not necessarily a successful 2024, but
00:37:04a competitive football team despite all the really card
00:37:08stacked against them to end out the year Pittsburgh Steelers
00:37:12yesterday.
00:37:12Drs are Rudy the owner speaking with the media at his year
00:37:17and press conference and mainly had this to say about the
00:37:21quarterback room.
00:37:22He anticipates the Steelers citing either Justin Fields
00:37:26or Russell Wilson, but likely not both ideally wants more
00:37:30than a one-year deal at QB that from ESPN's Brooke Pryor.
00:37:34What do you think Pittsburgh does this offseason at the
00:37:37quarterback position?
00:37:39It makes a mistake like they're going to do.
00:37:41I'm not saying Russell Wilson can be a capable quarterback.
00:37:43So can Justin Fields with each one of those quarterbacks
00:37:45you can probably be 500 which that's the new standard in
00:37:49Pittsburgh.
00:37:49It's no longer Super Bowls.
00:37:50It's can we keep Mike Tomlin streak alive because the right
00:37:54thing to do with a healthy franchise is understand what
00:37:57you watch last year is what doesn't win in the NFL long-term
00:38:00playoff games making runs to a Super Bowl the quarterback
00:38:03play they had but they go winning record again, bring Russ
00:38:07back guarantees us nine wins.
00:38:08Let's get after it next year.
00:38:10I feel Pittsburgh is not about this.
00:38:12They are about being one of the best run organizations in
00:38:15football for decades on decades here and seems like they lost
00:38:18their way where they sort of turned into we owe it to our
00:38:21fan base to have winning records.
00:38:22No, no, no, no, no this fan base expects World Championships.
00:38:26That's the expectations that you sent over the past 40 to
00:38:2850 years.
00:38:29I'm just I just I can't believe that they're going to make
00:38:32a mistake and bring back one or even both of those quarterbacks
00:38:35to be the quarterback to lead the Steelers next year.
00:38:37It's ridiculous in the Steel City.
00:38:40The floor is always very high, but the ceiling.
00:38:43Yeah, this much higher than that for success can also be a
00:38:47hindrance as weird as that might sound to say because of the
00:38:51fact they just keep winning football games and making playoff
00:38:55appearances, but never really going further than to the
00:38:57divisional round.
00:38:59They're not having a disastrous or failure of a season to
00:39:02really build things back up from the ground level that draft
00:39:06a quarterback to focus on the future of the franchise and
00:39:10that's why the Steelers are kind of in this weird limbo of
00:39:13winning ways, but not championship ways at the same time.
00:39:18Like look at that division like I like Lamar Jackson is going
00:39:21to go to the Hall of Fame.
00:39:22Joe Burrow is probably going to go to the Hall of Fame.
00:39:24Who knows what Cleveland's going to do.
00:39:25They're a mess as well.
00:39:26But the goal is not to say let's make sure we stay ahead of
00:39:29Cleveland and just have that third place in that division and
00:39:32win more games than we lose here.
00:39:34Like you have to go toe-to-toe and honestly, we just said the
00:39:36fan base would probably be so refreshed like I'm not saying
00:39:39you fire Mike Tomlin, but Tomlin goes look it hasn't worked
00:39:42out. We have a great defense.
00:39:43I understand that we have to find our quarterback and you
00:39:45would take two or three straight years of losing records to
00:39:48find that next Ben Roethlisberger.
00:39:51Come on.
00:39:51Now, they would take that in a heartbeat to get back to true
00:39:54Steelers football.
00:39:56The Browns have been a dumpster fire despite all of the
00:39:58investment into Sean Watson and yet because of how bad things
00:40:02got in understanding their role.
00:40:05No draft second overall trying to turn around their franchise
00:40:08in one offseason.
00:40:09The Baltimore Ravens speaking of the AFC North extending
00:40:12offensive coordinator.
00:40:14Todd Munkin, Zach Ertz, the RS playing against his former team
00:40:18in Philadelphia in the NFC championship saying, hey, listen,
00:40:22I still got more in the tank.
00:40:23I'm not retiring wants to stay of course with the commanders.
00:40:27Yeah, Munkin good move.
00:40:28Stay in Baltimore there.
00:40:29That team's going to be fine next year.
00:40:30They'll be making a run in the AFC playoffs.
00:40:32You know that but also Zach Ertz.
00:40:33He said something really profound after they lost that game
00:40:36is like, you know, what taking his Philadelphia years.
00:40:39We had great success and won a Super Bowl, but you can see
00:40:41what a guy's entering the end of his career as opposed to like
00:40:44boy if I was 22 years old coming into this league and I Jaden
00:40:47Daniels is my quarterback.
00:40:48My goodness, the next 10 to 15 years would be so special.
00:40:51So he's sort of reliving knowing that it's coming to an end,
00:40:53but he still got some things left in the tank.
00:40:56He was showing out even at a blowout loss in Philadelphia
00:40:58and had a very good year for the commanders.
00:41:00I would be surprised like, you know what we're going younger
00:41:02tight end.
00:41:03It's clear that Jaden Daniels him have a connection.
00:41:05Why not bring him back again?
00:41:07Absolutely.
00:41:08So that safety valve that was targeted.
00:41:10I believe 16 times on Sunday against Philadelphia.
00:41:14He went over every prop associated with his name 12 days
00:41:20away from Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans between the Philadelphia
00:41:24Eagles in the Kansas City Chiefs.
00:41:26So over the build-up to Super Bowl 59 in the biggest game
00:41:31of each and every NFL season.
00:41:33We are going to attack the game from every single angle,
00:41:36including what market movement we might see for the spread
00:41:41the money like the total from where we are right now at open
00:41:46to where we will be 12 days away on Sunday, February 9th in
00:41:50New Orleans, Louisiana, the RS time play guess the line.
00:41:55And of course, we start with the spread where it opened and
00:41:59where it is right now a point and a half in favor of Kansas
00:42:04City.
00:42:05Where will it be on February 9th?
00:42:08I'm sorry.
00:42:09Who is that?
00:42:11Is that like a generic Chiefs person just to understand what
00:42:15we have?
00:42:16It is a generic guy.
00:42:17The guy doesn't play for anybody who bets on him.
00:42:19Yeah, it is a generic guy.
00:42:21Yeah, that isn't generic.
00:42:23Mm-hmm.
00:42:24I can't.
00:42:25Yeah.
00:42:25I also didn't hear anything Eric because the guy our studio
00:42:28the guy doesn't well today.
00:42:30Yeah, the guy doesn't got anybody money who bets on him.
00:42:32So he is generic.
00:42:33Yeah, for sure.
00:42:34So it is generic DeAndre Hopkins there on the right side of
00:42:37that screen.
00:42:37Anyway, guess the line where it is right now.
00:42:40Point and a half in favor of Kansas City.
00:42:43We are not talking Moneyline just yet the spread DRS.
00:42:47Where do you think the closing number will be as we get the
00:42:49kick on February 9th in the Big Easy?
00:42:53I'm going to stay I'm going to say it stays in the one range,
00:42:57which means one and a half to one.
00:43:00I don't think it flips to a favor towards the Philadelphia
00:43:02Eagles at minus one either.
00:43:04I don't think it gets to two or two and a half because the
00:43:07information that's going to come out from today until Super
00:43:10Bowl Sunday, right?
00:43:11Sometimes you have to analyze that if you just look at the
00:43:13fan blue sports book, 53% of the bets coming in on Kansas
00:43:15City, 58% of the money.
00:43:17That's roughly even that's not enough to push it around
00:43:19depending where sharps and squares are coming in on just
00:43:21yet here, but that number will start to change.
00:43:24Why because I do think some information that Kansas City
00:43:28completely healthy ballclub.
00:43:29Like what are you actually like outside of somebody got hurt
00:43:32on Kansas City in practice.
00:43:33You're not anticipating any changes here.
00:43:35The one thing I do think people will buy into the Philadelphia
00:43:37Eagles on a point is okay.
00:43:39Cam Juergens who didn't play in the last game.
00:43:41It says he's going to be fine.
00:43:42Just some back spasms build up during the week.
00:43:44Couldn't shake him.
00:43:45I'll be fine Super Bowl Sunday.
00:43:47Then Landon Dickerson goes back to guard and he has a week
00:43:49and a half to two weeks to heal up on that knee.
00:43:52So they'll be full go say Quan Barkley who shot out of a
00:43:55cannon in the playoffs.
00:43:56Why Ben because he didn't have to play week 18 against the
00:44:00New York Giants.
00:44:01Now he gets two weeks off to be extra ready.
00:44:03And also what were the question marks on Sunday afternoon
00:44:06with the Philadelphia Eagles?
00:44:07Yeah, we were focused on the offensive line, but the talk
00:44:09all week was boy.
00:44:10Can Jalen Hurts even stand in the pocket or be functional?
00:44:13He looks functional and has two extra weeks to prepare to
00:44:16get ready for this game and rest that knee.
00:44:18So the reason I'm getting down to is the positives coming
00:44:22out aren't going to come from Kansas City other than yeah,
00:44:24we know Andy Rito for bi-week Patrick Mahomes is great and
00:44:26that's fine.
00:44:27But now you're saying boy the Eagles hung 55 and looked
00:44:30really good on their playoff run and they're going to get
00:44:33even fresher and healthier before they take on the Kansas
00:44:36City Chiefs.
00:44:37That's why I don't think it's going to to and if I had to
00:44:39say just give me an answer point blank.
00:44:41I'll say minus one Chiefs on Super Bowl Sunday.
00:44:45I don't think this line is going to move.
00:44:48Maybe it's foolish.
00:44:49Maybe it's naive.
00:44:50I believe Kansas City will be a point and a half favorite
00:44:53by the time we get to kick on February 9th around 6 30 p.m.
00:44:57Eastern Time to start Super Bowl 59.
00:45:01Here is why.
00:45:02I don't think the oddsmakers want the Chiefs as the underdog
00:45:05at all because then you would get a slew of Chiefs money
00:45:09probably from Sharps, but also from the public better who
00:45:12as much as they hate Kansas City would say, how can you
00:45:16bet against the Chiefs as an underdog in yet another Super
00:45:21Bowl?
00:45:21I don't think the Chiefs will ever be listed as a dog for
00:45:24Super Bowl 59.
00:45:26They were the two and a half point underdog for Super Bowl
00:45:2957 against Philadelphia, but that was a different time.
00:45:33The Chiefs had not started their two consecutive streak
00:45:36of winning a Lombardi trophy that line actually opened very
00:45:41briefly in favor of Casey and quickly flipped in the couple
00:45:46of minutes span to Philadelphia as the favorite but here
00:45:50is where I think we see the most movement and we already
00:45:53are starting to see a DRS.
00:45:55That is the money line.
00:45:57It was minus 130 when I saw these numbers right after the
00:46:01AFC championship game on the FanDuel Sportsbook on Sunday
00:46:04night a minus 130 money line number in favor of Casey when
00:46:09we were discussing the early odds yesterday minus 132 a little
00:46:14bit of movement minus 124 now in favor of the Chiefs.
00:46:19You guys are talking about a couple of pennies.
00:46:21We understand that but that would be the movement in a game
00:46:25that is expected to have this type of a margin.
00:46:28It is noteworthy another thing that the FanDuel Sportsbook
00:46:32is great at doing DRS when you click on stats, it provides
00:46:36where the money is coming not in the consensus Marketplace,
00:46:39but just on FanDuel at open more than 60% of both the money
00:46:44on the spread and the percentage of spread bets just in terms
00:46:48of that on Kansas City those numbers starting to dwindle 58%
00:46:54of the money on the spread backing KC only 53% of the bets
00:47:00on the spread now backing the Chiefs which shows me people
00:47:04early starting to bet on the Eagles.
00:47:07Maybe they believe they have an edge with the birds or just
00:47:10the idea DRS somebody other than Patrick Mahomes Andy Reid
00:47:14and the Chiefs need to win a Lombardi trophy.
00:47:17And that's why we're seeing some early movement in the money
00:47:20line because that's where I believe the oddsmakers are willing
00:47:23to move the market at the moment.
00:47:26Yes, and we're going to analyze this repeatedly right up
00:47:28till next Sunday here and say why you guys talking about
00:47:30cents on the money line here because that is a big difference.
00:47:33We're now isolating one football game with 50 times the amount
00:47:37of eyeballs money tickets.
00:47:40You name it here.
00:47:41So this is the one game if you would pick up at one game.
00:47:43I know Monday Night Football is big Thursday Night Football
00:47:46is big standalone football Sunday night.
00:47:48We get that but when you look at the Super Bowl everybody
00:47:51gets involved in it now and it's no longer like in the back
00:47:53rooms like a sharp Joe down the street in this corner book
00:47:56has it's like no.
00:47:57This is the fans of sports book legalized gambling in the
00:47:59United States where you get to actually get a window into
00:48:02where the money is going and how much is changing right
00:48:04in front of your eyes.
00:48:05And this is the one game that you would look toward to
00:48:07say, where is the public actually going?
00:48:09Where are the moms the dads the part-time gamblers just
00:48:12have to get involved.
00:48:13Where is that money going?
00:48:14Is it just that Patrick Mahomes and you know, lane one and
00:48:16a half points you just have to win or is it know the Eagles
00:48:19actually have a better overall football team man for man
00:48:21than the Kansas City Chiefs do that's what we're going
00:48:23to analyze and see where it goes.
00:48:25So we are looking at 58 percent as you said the percentage
00:48:27of the money with the spread on the Kansas City Chiefs and
00:48:30then just the spread tickets themselves without the money
00:48:33at 53 percent.
00:48:34I think it's going to be more around that 50 50 type split
00:48:37once we get the Super Bowl Sunday, but we never know where
00:48:40the public's going to come in late because we're in that
00:48:42love pattern bed this week, right?
00:48:43You have the hits as soon as you see the lines you have
00:48:45the fervor on a Monday then it sort of settles in then
00:48:48Super Bowl week starts to creep in then Thursday and Friday.
00:48:52That's when the big boys start to fly in and the million
00:48:54dollar wages go left and right and who's betting what so
00:48:57keep an eye on that, but we're in that low period right
00:48:59now just having fun seeing where these lines sit.
00:49:03Super well said if there was movement it happened late on
00:49:06Sunday evening and on Monday morning.
00:49:09We are probably not going to see this line even the money
00:49:12line move all that much in the next seven eight days, but
00:49:17then you get to Wednesday Thursday Friday entering the
00:49:20weekend everybody public better sharp better big better
00:49:24small better they start to come in and look at those Super
00:49:28Bowl numbers.
00:49:29What is it going to do to the number then that remains to
00:49:32be seen but Donnie, I guess we're being slightly boring
00:49:35in our first guess the line in terms of the spread still
00:49:38expected to be one and a half in favor of Kansas City.
00:49:41I'll change my believe the Chiefs what you want me to change
00:49:45my pick for you been to make it exciting Eagles minus six
00:49:47and a half on Super Bowl Sunday there.
00:49:49I said, how about that stamp that really good stuff?
00:49:52Would you lay it?
00:49:55Of course all tick somebody on this network always says
00:49:58altered.
00:49:58I don't know who that guy is, but sounds like maybe an
00:50:00alt opportunity here on the Philadelphia Eagles in this
00:50:03game.
00:50:03How about that?
00:50:04The human Algo has already received some information based
00:50:08on what that one named individual might do there in New
00:50:13Orleans again.
00:50:14I believe the Chiefs will remain the favorite for Super
00:50:16Bowl 59.
00:50:18And again, if it sounds silly to discuss to discuss a couple
00:50:21of cents on the Moneyline think about our last two games
00:50:25that were basically a pick them in the AFC Buffalo Baltimore
00:50:29game decided by 227 25 KC Buffalo game decided by three
00:50:34down to the closing moments.
00:50:36Once again, how about the total for Super Bowl 59 next guess
00:50:41the line continues early 12 days out from Super Bowl Sunday
00:50:45and Super Bowl 59.
00:50:47It's the Chiefs.
00:50:48It's the Eagles to dominant defenses all season long around
00:50:52the National Football League, but a ton of star power on
00:50:56the offensive side as well.
00:50:58So what does that do for the thought on the total 49 and
00:51:02a half is that number currently where will it be on Super
00:51:06Bowl Sunday 12 days away February 9th DRS 49 and a half
00:51:13right now, where will it be in just about two weeks, you
00:51:17know, sharp side.
00:51:18Donnie says that number probably should be at 48 and a half
00:51:22come game time here to really good defenses big stage two
00:51:25weeks to prepare, you know, obviously the offense gets
00:51:27the two weeks together, but we're talking about two really
00:51:29good defenses in the upper echelon of the NFL this season,
00:51:33but also I understand this is a public game that they're
00:51:35going to come in and say hold on now.
00:51:37You see what the Philadelphia Eagles can do on offense.
00:51:39It's Patrick Holmes on the other side.
00:51:41I just watched the NFC championship game, you know, 55
00:51:44points for one side cruising like around 80 points.
00:51:48And then I also watched the AFC game and colder temperatures
00:51:50end up with one team with 32 the other team with 29 points
00:51:53and we're supposed to expect that these two teams with
00:51:55explosive players all over the place World Championship
00:51:58quarterbacks great obviously offensive minds and think this
00:52:02game in a dome is going to stay under 50 points.
00:52:04Yeah, 50 and a half.
00:52:06So I'm going to say if I had to put my money on it right
00:52:09now where this line is going I'm still going to stick with
00:52:13under the 49 and a half which means 49 or below but I can't
00:52:17push forward next week when you know, everybody is going to
00:52:20get so excited and bet this bad boy into the 50s, but I'm
00:52:23going to stick with it.
00:52:23I'm going to say this line goes lower than the 49 and a half
00:52:27when it's all said and done on Super Bowl Sunday.
00:52:30I completely agree.
00:52:31I think the closing number is going to be 48 and a half
00:52:34the under already has the juice minus 115.
00:52:37If you want to go under 49 and a hook minus 105 to the over
00:52:42is it monumental juice?
00:52:43Is it drastic?
00:52:44No, not in terms of the big just yet, but I do believe this
00:52:48number is going to work down in close at 48 and a half that
00:52:52does not mean I believe it is the right side Donna.
00:52:56We talked about this yesterday when you look at the team
00:52:59totals 25 and a half for KC 23 and a half currently for
00:53:03Philadelphia.
00:53:04I think both teams are going to flirt with that number which
00:53:08means the margin of keeping this game under is not all that
00:53:12large and would certainly be a sweat to great defenses, but
00:53:17two astounding offenses as well.
00:53:20Although the Chiefs have not been overwhelmingly successful
00:53:24offensively, but they still scored 32 against Buffalo.
00:53:27The bills are not the defense that Philadelphia is I understand
00:53:31that I do think the number closes at 48 and a half.
00:53:35I don't necessarily believe though that the market movement
00:53:38will have that correct.
00:53:41I still think we see some points in Super Bowl 59.
00:53:45Yes, me too.
00:53:46And also just scrolling down here on the family sports book
00:53:49trying to find where the there we go Eagles team total 24 and
00:53:52a half Kansas City team total 24 and a half.
00:53:55So the question always comes out is can you put yourself in
00:53:59a realm where it's like, okay, we have a legitimate chance at
00:54:01this which means I would be shocked if we come Super Bowl
00:54:05Sunday and see that final score with one of these teams or
00:54:08both of them.
00:54:09Let's just say in the teens both of these teams are going to
00:54:12move the football regardless of how good those defenses are
00:54:15both will be aggressive on fourth downs trying to trade
00:54:18three for seven points.
00:54:19So if you said I'm going to tell you right now, I don't know
00:54:21the scores but both of these teams will at least be 20 points
00:54:25or above you got to take the over at that point.
00:54:27So that's generally where I lean even though we've seen
00:54:30Super Bowls and teams pressing and bad turnovers and two great
00:54:33defenses where it's like a 24 21 is a legitimate final score
00:54:37in the Super Bowl 27 to 21, which right now would still have
00:54:41you on the under that's a legitimate score here.
00:54:43So just because they both get into the 20s doesn't mean they
00:54:45get the over but right if you're saying just percentage wise,
00:54:49I'm going to tell you right now both of these teams at least
00:54:5120 or more.
00:54:52You got to take the over at that point, right?
00:54:55And yesterday that move 25 and a half was the number for KC
00:54:59the under had the Jews 23 and a half.
00:55:01Of course a key number for Philadelphia.
00:55:04The over had the juice both now at 24 and a half which should
00:55:07tell us a few things.
00:55:09The total is working down ever so slightly because the Chiefs
00:55:12have even money on 24 and a hook in the Eagles have the juice
00:55:17on the under but also how close this game is expected to be
00:55:20if both teams have the same exact point total for a Super
00:55:24Bowl five of the last six Super Bowls have stayed under just
00:55:30so you know, all right DRS.
00:55:33Let's talk some of the players on the offensive side of the
00:55:36football that will directly impact how much offense and how
00:55:40much scoring we see come 12 days from now, including the NFL's
00:55:44best running back having a historic in record-setting season
00:55:48that would be Saquon Barkley.
00:55:50His number at the moment is 112 and a hook.
00:55:54What will Saquon's number be come his very first Super Bowl
00:55:5812 days from now in the Big Easy.
00:56:00That's going over the 112 and a half.
00:56:02I honestly think this might line up at 115 and a half to 118
00:56:05and a half in that range.
00:56:07The reason I say that too is because this line is going to
00:56:09get pushed around and it's the same like he had a hundred and
00:56:11fifteen yards and didn't hit his total in the last game.
00:56:14Now granted that you need them to get the extra yards at the
00:56:16end of the game.
00:56:16No and Dallas Goddard was getting handoffs and Will Shipley
00:56:19was getting handoffs, which he probably could have easily got
00:56:21through the 115.
00:56:22But the one thing we do know is Saquon probably if the game
00:56:25script is correct.
00:56:26We'll get 20 carries in this game.
00:56:28Is there a saying I don't care about good of the Chiefs
00:56:30defense.
00:56:30Is there a sane person that says if I can guarantee Saquon
00:56:34with 20 carries, he's not going through 112 and a half and
00:56:37I know that's not the question.
00:56:38This is just the way I'm answering it or playing it out.
00:56:40No, he is going to hit a home run.
00:56:42He is going to have a 30-yard plus run.
00:56:44He is going to be involved in this football game.
00:56:45This game is priced at a minus one and a half which we're
00:56:48expecting Ben to be within one possession in the fourth quarter
00:56:50where Saquon is going to get carries first quarter second
00:56:52quarter third quarter and fourth quarter all the way through.
00:56:55I don't think there's anybody out there.
00:56:56Now sharp non-sharp public is going like, you know what I'm
00:56:59going to take that under 112.
00:57:01Now you're going to wait on that number and go, you know, I
00:57:03might not bet it but if it does go 115 and a half 118 I have
00:57:06120 and a half now you take the under there is no value to me
00:57:10on 112 and a half.
00:57:11It only is going to go higher for me Ben.
00:57:14Completely agree.
00:57:15I would guess the line and move this thing up to 114 and a half
00:57:18115 in a hook by the time we play in Super Bowl 59 Saquon's
00:57:24number for the NFC championship game 125 and a half the Chiefs
00:57:28are so much better up front than that of the commanders, but
00:57:31James Cook still at 13 carries for 85 yards and two touchdowns
00:57:36Saquon's number right now rushing plus receiving 130 and a
00:57:40half kind of like that number at this moment.
00:57:43If I believe the rushing yards prop is going to go up and you
00:57:47add in the receiving game for Saquon Barkley as well quickly
00:57:50go one thing to Kenneth Gainwell concussion.
00:57:53If he's not cleared, you're right more passes for Saquon.
00:57:57We'll talk to quarterbacks up next as we continue to get the
00:58:00line on the early line.
00:58:02So we were just discussing Saquon Barkley is rushing yards
00:58:05prop at the moment is 112 and a hook.
00:58:08Where will the number be 12 days from this very moment on
00:58:11Super Bowl Sunday in New Orleans both Donnie and I believe
00:58:15that will be on the rise 114 and a half 115 and a half maybe
00:58:20even higher if there is the public love behind that number
00:58:24and expecting another big play or two from Saquon Barkley
00:58:28against the Chiefs defensively, but it should be noted at this
00:58:31moment.
00:58:31We'll talk Patrick Mahomes in just a second.
00:58:34Jalen Hurts is rushing yards prop is 40 and a half.
00:58:38It was 31 and a half for the NFC championship game because
00:58:42of the uncertainty around that left knee injury and hurts was
00:58:45not exactly mobile despite scoring three rushing touchdowns
00:58:4910 overall carries for just 16 total yards.
00:58:52But what the long layoff of Super Bowl preparation can do
00:58:55Donnie expecting him to be as close to a hundred percent as
00:58:59you could hope for and of course more active in terms of
00:59:02utilizing his own legs come Super Bowl Sunday.
00:59:05And what do we like about Kansas City's defense?
00:59:07It's good.
00:59:08So you normally say to yourself like wait, I don't want to
00:59:09bet any quarterback props against a really good defense.
00:59:12Well, we'll talk about Patrick Mahomes against a good defense
00:59:14in just a few moments.
00:59:15But from a running perspective, you know what Spags does his
00:59:18job is to generate pressure and if you have a mobile quarterback
00:59:21and the pressure gets home and you can get out of it.
00:59:23There are running yards that you can pick up.
00:59:25So Ben you are astute there by saying we haven't seen the
00:59:28best of Jalen Hurts and think of this.
00:59:30He only had 16 yards.
00:59:31Keep in mind.
00:59:32He had about what 15 20 yard rushing touchdown that got
00:59:34called back.
00:59:35But the fact that wasn't what I was looking at the
00:59:3710 carries on a leg that maybe thought wasn't as good so
00:59:41we can anticipate Ben.
00:59:42If I told you right now Jalen Hurts will get 10 carries
00:59:45in the Super Bowl.
00:59:46Some might come on kneel down someone tush pushes you would
00:59:49take the over 39 and a half to 49 40 and a half every single
00:59:52day of the week because you're factoring one of those runs
00:59:55is probably at least 10 to 15 yards.
00:59:5828 and a half is the rushing yards prop for Patrick Mahomes
01:00:02a number that he continues to just fly over had 10 carries
01:00:06in the AFC championship game for 46 yards and multiple
01:00:10scores, but the passing yards prop is where we go with
01:00:13Patrick currently at 251 and a half and a little bit shy of
01:00:17two weeks DRS.
01:00:19What is this number by the time they kick in New Orleans
01:00:21for Super Bowl 59 255 and a half.
01:00:24I'm going to the over now.
01:00:25If your game script is Kansas City wins this game.
01:00:28It's still should be going over 255 and a half.
01:00:31If your game script is in the fourth quarter, Kansas City
01:00:33is losing it still should be going to 55 and a half or over
01:00:36because understand this in the past.
01:00:38Maybe we're looking at Kansas City's offense being more like
01:00:41hey, you know what?
01:00:41They can be efficient on the ground which they can be but
01:00:43they're not explosive on the ground anymore.
01:00:45Isaiah Pacheco is a really hard runner and you thought maybe
01:00:47the trajectory of his career at least early on was man.
01:00:50This guy can break long runs.
01:00:51He can carry 15 16 times 70 80 yards on the ground.
01:00:55That's no longer the case Kareem hunt has done a fine job
01:00:57as a veteran backup, but he's no longer that young explosive
01:01:00guy that we saw come on the scene originally with Kansas
01:01:03City.
01:01:03So my game script is always Patrick Mahomes to win this
01:01:07football game for Kansas City is not handing it off Ben and
01:01:10having a hundred and seventy-seven yards and one touchdown
01:01:12and no interceptions Patrick Mahomes has to be the Patrick
01:01:15Mahomes.
01:01:15We know in love in the Super Bowl, which means the 251 and
01:01:18a half for me that betting public is going to see them
01:01:20like regardless of game script.
01:01:22It's going to have to be on Patrick Mahomes shoulder to win
01:01:24this game.
01:01:25I'm going to 55 and a half is that closing number on Super
01:01:28Bowl Sunday.
01:01:30I'll go up a little bit to 53 and a half is my number.
01:01:33I don't believe we're going to see many props drop in the
01:01:36next two weeks or so now especially on those star players
01:01:41and I think that number is very very fair for Patrick Mahomes
01:01:45Donnie.
01:01:45You know that my favorite yardage Brett bet for conference
01:01:48championship weekend was Patrick Mahomes over 249 and a
01:01:52half the number close to 258 and a hook for Patrick Mahomes.
01:01:57He came up short only 245 against Buffalo and we talked
01:02:02about how illustrious his numbers have been in the AFC
01:02:05championship game.
01:02:06One of the great things about my homes and the Chiefs about
01:02:09the play of their fifth Super Bowl in the last six years is
01:02:12you have such a sample size on one guy in a specific scenario
01:02:16in the biggest football game of a season last year, 333 yards
01:02:22against San Francisco against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back
01:02:26in 2020.
01:02:28He had 270 yards but a couple of interceptions against the
01:02:3249ers in his first Super Bowl 286.
01:02:36What was the one Super Bowl?
01:02:37I left out 182 yards in three touchdowns against Philadelphia.
01:02:42So maybe not all that prolific through the air but very efficient
01:02:46three touchdowns 21 of 27.
01:02:50I still think he flirts with the number.
01:02:52I don't know if I'll feel as confident in betting me over
01:02:55as I did for the Chiefs in the AFC title game.
01:02:58The only thing I'm worried about been the over-under on the
01:03:00NFL coming in Nick.
01:03:01You know what?
01:03:01We don't like this turf inside the Superdome.
01:03:03Let's bring a brand new turf in here.
01:03:05That's nobody's ever used before and have the Eagles on ice
01:03:07skates to give Mr.
01:03:08Mahomes another chance at victory.
01:03:10That's the only over.
01:03:11I want the under on that.
01:03:12Give me a clean surface, which we should have.
01:03:15Let's get revenge.
01:03:16Let's get revenge people.
01:03:19Is the theme for Philadelphia our three next?
