George Bennett gives Jamille Matt update

00:00Good afternoon. I spoke to Matt Sadler earlier today to get an update on Jamil Matt's situation.

00:06The 35-year-old was forced off with a hamstring problem in the 33rd minute during Walsall's 3-0 defeat at Bradford City last Saturday.

00:18And at full time at Valley Parade, Matt Sadler said that he doesn't expect it to be a serious one,

00:25but he was still a doubt for the midweek trip to Fleetwood Town.

00:30And what proved to be the case was that, you know, he was at the ground, he was sat on the bench,

00:34but he was not involved in the matchday squad.

00:37When Matt Sadler was asked for an update at full time following that 2-0 defeat at Fleetwood Town,

00:45he said that, again, it's not going to be a serious one, it's not going to be long term,

00:49and that Jamil Matt will be monitored in the build-up to the game against Salford City at Bescot on Saturday,

00:56and that's still very much the case.

00:58In Sadler's words, he's fighting to be fit, but the Walsall boss did also stress the importance of not rushing him back.

01:05And, you know, with very much the long-term picture in his mind, you know, will it be...

01:12and weighing up that risk of will it be worth risking him for that one game when, you know, there's a long season ahead

01:18and we all know Jamil Matt's important.

01:20So, yes, still very much a great deal of doubt over his availability for the weekend, unfortunately.
