00:00PAS is poised to lead the Perikatan Nasional's Penang chapter in the future due to the state's

00:06increasing Malay population, according to an analyst.

00:10O, a son of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, predicted that the influence of PAS

00:15will have greater sway to election cycles from now, adding that they can forget about

00:20the Chinese votes and still win the state.

00:23O acknowledged that PAS made significant inroads in the DAP-dominated Penang during the 2023

00:29election, securing seven seats, its highest-ever tally in the state.

00:34Oye Ki Beng from the Penang Institute, however, believes that the electorate will prioritize

00:39policy quality and inclusiveness over demographic shifts, citing Penang's multicultural identity

00:45and international reputation.

00:47Oye said that for Garakan to regain influence it once had in its glory days, it would need

00:52to leave PN and address local concerns independently.

00:56FMT previously quoted a source as saying PN planned to focus on Malay and Indian voters

01:01to secure a slim majority in the next state election, acknowledging its inability to capture
