Pompey boss John Mousinho's verdict after the 0-0 draw with Burnley.
Transcript
00:00Here with Pompey, boss, John McInerney.
00:03John, your lads gave everything today, you threw everything at Burnley.
00:06You must be pretty pleased with their performance, if not the result?
00:09Really pleased with the performance, I think, especially coming off the back of the disappointment on Saturday and Tuesday,
00:14having lost a couple of games on the spin. Tuesday in particular, we felt it was a really good opportunity for us.
00:19So, yeah, that was one we obviously didn't take any points from.
00:22But today against a top, top side, I thought a really good performance.
00:25And I think we can be slightly disappointed not to come away with three points.
00:29What were the margins for you?
00:31You know, to be honest, I thought that the biggest margin was the way that James Trafford performed.
00:38I mean, the save from Matt Ritchie is absolutely outstanding and Burnley, they defend the box well.
00:45The goalkeeper is there for a reason.
00:48He's £18 million worth of talent and I think that's what you get.
00:51So, you know, I think that at the end of the day, when we dust ourselves off, we'll be pleased with the chances we created.
00:59Maybe, yeah, Colby's probably disappointed with the chance at the end.
01:01But apart from that, I think we did the right things most of the time.
01:05Yeah, I think Colby there, probably Matt Ritchie in each half.
01:07That one in the first half when Lange put the ball through was a little sight of goal.
01:11I think the centre-half got across and got a foot in at a key moment.
01:13They're probably the best of it, would you say?
01:14Yeah, I think so. I think we've got, yeah, we've got to sort of, Matt's one of the first.
01:19We created quite a few openings and opportunities in the first half, crossing the ball and not quite getting on the end of it.
01:25So, yeah, Matt's chance was really good in the first half.
01:27Second half, I thought the chance was excellent, but I don't think he can do anything differently.
01:30He strikes it well, he arrives really well and when traffic comes out, spreads himself, Shemaia Koleskin makes the save.
01:36So, there were a couple of other crosses that we put in, a couple of other opportunities we had, but we didn't quite manage to get there.
01:42So, yeah, just one of those that just didn't happen on the day.
01:46Conor Schott, as he comes in for a start, is paired with Rob Atkinson.
01:49All of a sudden, you know, great, you can defend balls into the box and you've got a two-centre-half that can really do the basic requirements for you.
01:56Yeah, I mean, we haven't made any sort of, well, you know, it's been clear that we've missed Schott over the past six months now.
02:03And, you know, we wanted to time down with a new contract at the start of the season because he performed so well last year
02:10and because of the fact we thought he could affect the Championship in more than that.
02:13So, yeah, we've missed him. We've brought Robin to do the same.
02:16I think we're very, very competitive now at the centre-half.
02:19We've got that department that looks a lot more solid.
02:23And I think, you know, having said that as well, I spoke to Marlon yesterday about coming out the side.
02:27I think he did a brilliant job at deputising them and filling in the position that he's not familiar with.
02:32So, everybody stepped up and, you know, hopefully we're in a stronger position now.
02:36What does it look like for Marlon now, moving forward in terms of considerations for where he competes?
02:41I think with the amount of centre-backs we've now got in the building and hopefully we obviously keep them fit.
02:45But you saw today Hayden coming on.
02:48Marlon was there as a back-up centre-half and also as a sixth today.
02:52I think more likely that we'd have them moving back into his normal position in the middle of the park and seeing where we'd go from there.
02:58Now, a couple of bodies into the building.
03:00How familiar are you with the government body, indoors with criteria and home office and work permits?
03:05Honestly, Jordan, and I'll tell you the truth, I am somewhat familiar with it.
03:10But it's got absolutely nothing to do with me.
03:12So, you know, I was aware of everything yesterday afternoon.
03:15But, you know, everything was absolutely fine from the club side.
03:20I honestly couldn't even talk you through the rules and regs.
03:23All I know is that we've got a deal in the building.
03:26I'm absolutely delighted that we've got him in.
03:28And, you know, I think it's a bit of a coup for us to manage to get services from Sunderland.
03:33How did it unfold from your perspective yesterday?
03:34Were you always satisfied that things were going on?
03:36Obviously, there's hurdles to jump through with the paperwork and things like the work permits.
03:41Yeah, I mean, it's an interesting one on Fridays.
03:44I've got all the match prep and that's where my head's at.
03:46But, yeah, at no point was I concerned about the situation whatsoever.
03:50So well under control.
03:51And then, yeah, we managed to secure everything late last night.
03:54And for your money, he now comes in for Sheffield United, is that how it pans out?
03:58Yeah, he'll be in for Sheffield United.
03:59So that's us, barring any other additions over the next couple of days.
04:05We're looking good with the six, I think, that we've brought in.
04:08So pretty happy with that.
04:09And, yeah, obviously, Cohen coming on today was a nice boost as well.
04:14So, yeah, looking forward to the end of the window and moving on to Sheffield United.
04:18What about Adele as well?
04:19Because, I mean, you used the word coup there.
04:21What's he going to give you?
04:22I mean, you really wanted a little bit more depth there, didn't you, in that department?
04:25Yeah, I think he gives us the ability, probably what we maybe were slightly missing on Tuesday night,
04:29the ability to unlock defences.
04:30He can play anywhere across the front three.
04:33A very, very technical player.
04:35With the ability to go away from players as well.
04:37Again, we saw that.
04:39It's quite a nice one, I suppose, where we've seen first-hand how good he can be playing up at the Stadium of Light.
04:44And when he nearly scored, he caused us all sorts of problems down that left-hand side.
04:47So, yeah, a very lively, technical 10.
04:50And he can bring goals, bring assists.
04:53And I think just sort of unlocked the door and should complement our front four, whoever it is, quite nicely.
04:59And the attributes of Cohen as well, coming out left-back.
05:01Obviously, you need a bit of competition there.
05:04Yeah, I think a nice foil for Conor Ogilvie.
05:06So, a completely different player to Conor, a different profile.
05:10You know, very, very athletic.
05:12I think one of the top athletes in the Championship last season.
05:14And again, we expect him to be that this year.
05:16It was a situation that, as it unravelled with Jacob, it was difficult for us to replace him because we didn't want to use the loan.
05:26And so we didn't necessarily want to use a loan on the left-back.
05:32And permanence with two contracted for next year was a difficult one for us as well.
05:36So, to be able to do this deal on a short-term basis, we think, you know, makes a lot of sense.
05:42And I mean, Pompe fans have been asking for Championship experience this season.
05:45I mean, he brings like 70-odd appearances at the level, hasn't he?
05:48Yeah, he's had a really good career.
05:50He played a lot of games in the Championship with Rotherham.
05:52And that's important.
05:54I think that's important for us.
05:56And just to get the right profile of player and the right type of player in is massive.
06:00I know you've been looking for, you know, attacking reinforcements.
06:03How do you see that manoeuvring now between now and 11pm on Monday?
06:07I will say, I think the best way to describe things would be that we're really satisfied with the six that we've brought in.
06:13We're not shutting anything off yet.
06:16So we're not necessarily active and out there looking for anything.
06:18But there might be a couple of options that pop up between now and then.
06:21And yeah, we're not going to say no to something if it's right.
06:24Yeah, I think you're at your limit now, aren't you?
06:26Back up to 25, so you might have to move one or two out if that was going to happen.
06:30Yeah, I mean, at the moment, we've got that.
06:31January gives it that chance to shuffle things around a bit.
06:33So we'll see where we are.
06:34We want to make sure that we're in a position with the squad where we hopefully don't have situations like we did with Ben and Tom.
06:42And so, yeah, we'll be active with that as well.
06:44Oh, Jordan Williams as well, of course.
06:46You've got some more information on him to an extent on that.
06:49Yeah, not terrible news, not great news.
06:52So Jordan's got a slight issue with his tendon in his hamstring.
06:55He was out on the pitch today, which was positive.
06:58Not training, but out on the pitch.
06:59We expect it's going to be about another three weeks or so before he's back.
07:03So disappointing, but not disastrous.
07:05I mean, picked up on vibes and having a quick chat with Jordan himself and yourself.
07:08That seems a little bit better than maybe was anticipated, possibly.
07:11Well, I think his initial injury kept him out for eight weeks plus.
07:15So I think it was Plymouth that he did it, and Plymouth is a long time ago now.
07:19Yeah.
07:19And so we were worried at the time that it was a similar injury.
07:24It was on the other side, but we were worried it was a similar injury.
07:26Yeah.
07:27So it's not great.
07:28We're disappointed, but we feel like it's not the worst result in the world.
07:32Cheers.
