00:00Two members of the bar staff at the Lumley pub in Skegness are going the extra mile for charity by walking all the way to Paris.
00:10Barry Robinson reports.
00:12There they go, look.
00:20We're here at the pub this morning. We're going to start a walk and apparently it's going from Skegness to Paris.
00:27Boston today. Give us a bit of info, what's going to happen?
00:33We're going to go from here to Boston, from Boston to Spalding, from Spalding to Peterborough and then we might change route down to London.
00:42You're next.
00:44And how long is this expected to last, take?
00:48A month.
00:50You're hoping to get to Paris in a month?
00:52Yeah, hopefully.
00:54Hopefully. You'll do it.
00:56I've not come back yet.
00:57No, I know how headstrong you are, you'll definitely do it.
01:01I'm glad you said that, because I am very headstrong.
01:03Miles a day, what are you hoping to do?
01:05It varies. Sometimes we might be walking eight hours a day, but we have gave athletes a rest, so we're only walking three hours sometimes, maybe seven. It varies over the days that we're going to walk.
01:16The other thing is, if we can put the route up later on, what you're actually going to be doing, obviously you'll be taking camping equipment or something.
01:26But if anyone can help out on the way, give them a wave, give them a shout, give them some food, give them a drink. Dion's has beer.
01:34Give them a coffee, whatever. Mr Mayor, your thoughts on this?
01:39Absolutely amazing what they're about to take on. I mean, the two charities itself, Dobshire Mines Children's Home is really important. It's a respite for children over in Derbyshire.
01:48It's been running on them for 33 years. It needs every penny it can get, so there is a Just Giving page for both charities that they've set up, and I think it's really, really great.
01:58We need places in Huntington, Enfield, obviously London, and there's a place called Ware as well.
02:27But we will be going live every day.
02:31So, you're going live. Where can people watch this live stream?
02:35The Lumley site, on my Facebook, TikTok, Instagram.
02:39No doubt Standard will be following you as well, so they can put the links up.
02:44And Mr Mayor, no doubt, will put a link on his page so we can follow the live stream.
02:50And again, most of your social media pages probably will have the link on it.
02:54But, you know, give them a clap, give them a wave. It doesn't matter, it just boosts it a little bit.
03:00If you can feed them, feed them. If you can offer a bed for the night, do it.
03:04You know, just don't give Dion any drink for God's sake.
03:07You know, she'll be crawling to Paris if you do that.
03:11Which could make the news, couldn't it?
03:13Yeah, of course.
03:14So, it's there.
03:16Thank you very much.
03:17Website they can contact, if they can help out.
03:21Mine or Will's Facebook.
03:23The Lumley Facebook page.
03:25Lumley Facebook, that's Lumley at Skegness.
03:28I don't know the web address for that, but no doubt.
03:31Just look it up, Lumley Pub, Skegness.
03:33One of the oldest pubs in Skeg, so, you know, you can't mistake it.
03:37Give them a cheer, give them a shout, give them some food.
03:41Give them some pennies for the bucket.
03:43And whatever you can do, it doesn't matter if it's a penny, a pound.
03:46It doesn't matter.
03:47It all goes towards the charities, which is the RNLI and the Derbyshire Miners Children's Home.
03:54Final word, Mr Mayor?
03:56Well, just best of luck.
03:58And I hope you get the support you deserve all the way through.
04:01And raise loads of money for two very, very worthy charities.
04:04They've done well so far, I think, between both of them.
04:07It's nearly hitting on 7,000, isn't it?
04:10So, there you go.
04:12If you can help out, do it.
04:17Well, we're with one of the sponsors at the moment, MKN Gym.
04:22What made you sponsor it, Jim?
04:24Obviously, well, Darryl, obviously, is a local of the pub.
04:29Obviously works for us, very good cause.
04:32So, we decided to support them.
04:35Obviously, supplying the tops and a charitable donation as well to them.
04:41So, yeah, all in the good cause.
04:43You obviously realise it was for Skeggy, Good Cause, Live Boat and the Derbyshire Miners.
04:48One of the other sponsors is the Gap Gym, Andy.
04:51Can't be here, he's probably beating somebody up in the gym, you know.
04:55But, yeah, if you're looking to sponsor, I think we can still take a few sponsors on, can you?
05:00Like we say, you know, it's as simple as that.
05:04If you fancy a sponsor, contact somebody.
05:06When are you getting raffled off?
05:07Today.
05:08How big is the TV?
05:0950 inch.
05:10We've got a 50 inch TV today.
05:1250 inch TV, if you're in the Lumley today, come and grab a raffle ticket.
05:15You could win a 50 inch TV.
05:17It's all there.
05:20And, of course, Mr Mayor.
05:23Yeah, I think local businesses, MKN is a well-known builder's merchant throughout the town.
05:28Obviously, these guys are more than happy to support it, same as Gap Gym.
05:33I believe a lot of businesses have supported you in other ways as well.
05:36And they've also got support from other places around the country as well, I guess.
05:40So, they're getting the support.
05:42Got to keep the memento going to raise the funds.
05:44But, yeah, massive congratulations for any support from any business.
05:48And once again, follow them on the Lumley Facebook page, TikTok, social media.
05:55They'll all be there.
05:56And if you can offer to help, just offer.
05:59I mean, without these people sponsoring, things like this wouldn't take place anyway.
06:03Well, not as much, you know.
06:06But it's the sponsors as well.
06:08Let's give the sponsors a big thank you as well.
06:10Skagness Mayor, thank you as well.
06:12Dion, we'll see you crawling around the pitch.
06:18William, your idea.
06:20My crazy idea.
06:22So, this is William.
06:23He'll be carrying Dion around.
