After attending an inauguration of the Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) on Sunday (Feb 2), Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail told the media that the agency would start at 19 entry points across the country first and target to bolster the nation's border security with some 12,000 personnel once it reaches full capacity.

00:00The unique thing about the new set up of the AKPS is that the officers are being infiltrated.
00:07Customs, for example, has donated up to 1,090 Customs officers who are under the AKPS umbrella.
00:17They are in charge of inspection, inspection and payment.
00:21The same goes for the police.
00:23We are also holding an SPP meeting where we are implementing a cadre program
00:29where a number of police officers are placed under the AKPS.
00:33When the process of expansion is fully completed, then there is a need.
00:39The AKPS also has an intelligent element, the noise.
00:43We bring it from a special environment.
00:45As mentioned earlier, there are 141 official entrances to our border.
00:51That's a lot.
00:53We chose the AKPS to operate in the 19th century.
00:57It has a road to the sea, a road to the land and an airport entrance.
01:02So the pattern is different.
01:05We started in Ratapanjang, at the border with Thailand.
01:08The issues are different compared to here or at the port, the entrance to the port.
01:14So, from 141, we started with 19 entrances.
01:21From there, the data we collect will guide us
01:25where we will place the next phase.
01:28I can't start with non-durian burung, between Padang Terap and Belah Siam.
01:34Because there are only 2,000 people per day.
01:38We can't put all our assets there.
01:42That's the formula we will make,
01:45to determine where the AKPS will operate,
01:49including Sabah-Sarawak.
01:52According to the discussion I had with the TPM,
01:55our conclusion is that the airport entrance is an international airport.
02:01The busiest airport here is Pulau Pinang, followed by Kota Kinabalu.
02:06Even though TPM is from Sarawak,
02:08they asked me to focus on Kota Kinabalu,
02:11followed by Kuching and other areas.
02:14Ideally, we will have up to 12,000 people,
02:17when the airport is fully operational.
02:19But for now, the filling hasn't reached that level.
02:22I forgot.
02:24Now, we have 6,000 people.
02:266,000 is already half.
