00:00So what Ofsted are setting out will mean more information for parents in a wider range of areas that will shine a light on
00:06strengths within a school
00:07but also identify much more clearly areas for improvement so that we as a department can get involved and take action to.
00:13I've heard from parents that when they read Ofsted reports right now under the current system
00:18they're left almost entirely in the dark as to what's working well and what needs to change.
00:22So this is about providing more information for parents
00:25but also more information for everyone in the system so that where we identify problems
00:29we take action more quickly to turn it around.
00:31What I'm clear about as Secretary of State is that my focus is the life chances of our children and making sure we drive up
00:37better performance, better teaching, more quality right across our schools.
00:41This new system that Ofsted are consulting on will allow us to have a much clearer idea about what's working well and what needs to
00:46change. That's absolutely as it should be, that should be the focus and any suggestion that somehow parents can't cope with additional information
00:53I just think it's insulting. Parents want to know it, all of the polling evidence, parents groups have been clear too, that they're behind
01:00more information. I'm clear that
01:02inspection needs to change, the system needs to change, we need a much sharper focus on what's working,
01:07what needs to change and a move away from those headline grades is right and necessary.
01:12But we've got to shine a light on areas where it's just not working. Our children only get one chance at school
01:19so their interests will always come first.
