Aiding the rebuilding of Gaza is not placing international plight over Malaysians’ needs, says Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
Responding to Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (PH-Ledang) in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Feb 4), Mohamad noted that Japan and South Korea had invited Malaysia to co-chair the Conference on Cooperation Among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (Ceapad), highlighting the country’s role in regional cooperation.

00:00Thank you, Prime Minister. Thank you, Minister, for your answer earlier.
00:04I would like to congratulate the government of Malaysia
00:07for their continued efforts to liberate and defend the fate of the Palestinian people.
00:13My additional question is,
00:15apart from the efforts that have been made,
00:18we also know that there are several parties
00:21who say that Malaysia should focus on the internal problems of the country
00:26rather than helping the undetermined development of Palestine.
00:30So, what is the government's plan as a co-manager of Japan
00:35under the framework of a cooperation agreement between East Asia
00:40for the development of Palestine or CPEC?
00:42What is the development?
00:44And how do we respond to the several parties who said what I said earlier?
00:49Honourable Minister.
00:51Honourable President. Thank you, comrade Ledang.
00:54It is true what some people said when the Honourable Minister said that
00:59Malaysia will work together to rebuild Gaza.
01:05Yes, that is Palestine, that is true.
01:06Last week, there were people who said that
01:11it is like a calf in the forest being breastfed while a child at home is starving.
01:17A child at home is not starving, that is true.
01:19And we don't even breastfeed a calf in the forest.
01:22This is the responsibility of our nation.
01:24Malaysia is a country that from the beginning,
01:28from the beginning of the establishment of the Zionist regime,
01:32Malaysia has expressed its opposition to that.
01:36And we support the establishment of a free Palestine.
01:42It has been 70 years, that is true.
01:45And we are proud of the nature or cooperation of East Asia
01:49in the reconstruction of Palestine,
01:53which is an effort of the whole country.
01:56The Japanese government has asked Malaysia to be a co-chair
02:02to hold a hearing in the office of the official first,
02:08so that the deadline for the hearing in July is started.
02:14We will try to hold it in March or April.
02:20We are a member of ASEAN countries,
02:24except for Myanmar and East Leicester,
02:28we are not a member.
02:30And Korea, Japan and Palestine.
02:32Korea and Japan are the main supporters,
02:36which is in cooperation with East Asia in the reconstruction of Palestine.
02:41So, Malaysia is given as a respect to hold this meeting.
02:48This attitude was established in 2013 by Japan and its fellow countries.
02:55All ASEAN countries, except for Myanmar and East Leicester,
03:00do not support it.
03:01So, this is a respect to us.
03:04It is not that we want to rebuild Gaza.
03:07It is not easy and it is not cheap.
03:10But we will bring the countries together.
03:14We will bring the countries from the South-South bloc together.
03:19Many Western countries have said that they want this to be done.
03:26And we take this opportunity to be a co-host between Malaysia and Japan.
03:34To make sure,
03:36Alhamdulillah, the temporary ceasefire has been achieved.
03:41We hope that this ceasefire will be maintained
03:44and the reconstruction of Palestine, especially Gaza, must be done.
03:50And we do not agree, Mr. President.
03:52That is a suggestion to send out the Palestinians from their countries.
03:57To send them to Egypt, Jordan and others.
04:02The Palestinians themselves do not want to leave their lands.
04:05And what we need to do is
04:08to think together on how to rebuild Palestine
04:14and which will take a long time.
04:16Thank you, Mr. President.
