00:00It is a pleasure to welcome our honoured friend, President Dr. Mohamed Mouzy, President of the Republic of Maldives.
00:13This is Excellency's inaugural visit to this country.
00:19Notwithstanding, we have had excellent bilateral relations between the two countries.
00:26Both are maritime countries, which means the area for collaboration is wide open.
00:36And I'm very pleased in the series of meetings we have had this morning and the bilateral meeting with ministers.
00:46You'll see we have a large number of ministers, both from Maldives and from Malaysia, that shows the importance we place to our friendly neighbour,
00:59although quite a bit of a distant, but a beautiful country.
01:03The collaboration, of course, covers a wide area, includes now education, tourism, training MTCP,
01:15and now extending to STEM, TVET, and higher education, university exchanges, sports, health,
01:25and as we have seen even exchange of notes in training of deployments, bilateral consultations.
01:37And President Mohamed Mouzy has been extremely articulate and outspoken in terms of climate change
01:46in the position that this country has taken to call on the international community to respect the need to protect the environment
01:56and share the responsibility.
02:01And we are with him on this, and we follow with great interest,
02:07and we support the strong expression voiced by the President.
02:13Now, there are areas that is considered new, that we need to collaborate further,
02:21that includes floating solar, defence, and digital.
02:28So I, again, would reiterate my profound respects for him,
02:34and thank very much, because the last visit of the President of the Maldives here,
02:43it was in 2016, and incidentally, this is the President's first visit to Malaysia,
02:51which is quite rare for a Maldivian.
02:54But now, knowing him, and engaging with him,
03:01I don't, I mean, I feel very comfortable, this is part of us,
03:06he understands our culture, he shares our views,
03:10and I certainly, on behalf again of the people,
03:16and government, and the people of Malaysia,
03:18would extend my profound thanks and appreciation.
03:24Thank you, Dr. Sri, for your statement.
