00:00The National Food Authority will immediately contact the local government units to send rice.
00:07It is expected that in the next few days, 35 pesos per kilo of rice will be available.
00:14Christian Bascones of PTV in Balitang Pambansa.
00:19Following the declaration by the NFA of the Food Security Emergency on Rice,
00:23Filipinos will continue to feel the cheap rice.
00:27The purpose of this declaration is to influence the price in the market.
00:31The National Food Authority is already contacting all participating LGUs across the country
00:37to immediately send an allocation to them.
00:40As of now, the NFA has already sent a communication to the LGUs.
00:46We sent a letter inviting them to participate.
00:50So far in NCR, including Cavite, because the NFA includes Cavite in NCR,
00:57we have already sent 53 letters.
01:01And we are waiting for the reply of the LGUs so we can ascertain who are the interested to participate.
01:10It is estimated that 150,000 metric tons of rice will be sent to the local governments.
01:17The NFA will sell rice to the LGUs for 33 pesos per kilo.
01:23And the LGUs can sell it to those who can afford it for up to 35 pesos.
01:29The NFA expects that next week, it will start selling rice.
01:34It was made clear by the Department of Agriculture Assistant Secretary Engineer Arnel de Mesa
01:39that the NFA did not declare the Food Security Emergency on Rice
01:43due to the lack of its stocks, but due to the high prices in the markets.
01:49The Food Security Emergency is only due to the extraordinary increase in the price of rice
01:59and not because of the lack of rice supply in our country
02:04which is governed by the Republic Act 12078 or the amendment to the Rice Tarification Law.
02:09According to the NFA, compared to the first recommendation of the National Price Coordinating Council
02:14which is 38 pesos per kilo, it is being lowered.
02:18The agency explained that the lowering of the price is to have space for the storage of the NFA
02:24as a preparation for the upcoming harvest season.
02:28Meanwhile, the maximum suggested retail price of imported rice will be lowered to 55 pesos
02:34from the previous 58 pesos MSRP since February 5.
02:38According to the Department of Agriculture, this step is important to reduce the food price inflation
02:44particularly in basic commodities such as rice.
02:48The agency's target is to lower the MSRP of imported rice to 49 pesos in March
02:55while lowering the price of local rice in the markets.
02:59The premium rice is only playing at 49 pesos to 59 pesos per kilo
03:04while the well-milled rice is at 47 pesos.
