MACC to deploy integrity unit heads across all ministries, says Azam

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will soon deploy its officers as Heads of Integrity Units across all ministries.  MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said that the deployment will occur in stages, following approval from the Governance Committee (JTK) chaired by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. 00:00Assalamu'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, I would like to inform you about the activities

00:08carried out by the Integrity Agency, or BPIA. BPIA is a sector under the prevention sector

00:17under the auspices of Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman. The SPRM through this section is responsible

00:22for monitoring, supervising, and supervising the governance of integrity and anti-corruption

00:30through mechanisms implemented in the public and private sectors.

00:35Among other things, a meeting of the National Council of State Authorities, the National

00:41Council of State Authorities, the third series, in March 2024, has agreed with the proposal

00:47to appoint an SPRM officer as the head of the Integrity Unit, or KUI, in each ministries.

00:53This meeting, this JTKI, was chaired by Iyam Bahadur, I'm sorry, Iyam Berbahagia, the

00:59Deputy Head of the National Council of State Authorities. Why? This is to overcome the

01:05difficulties of the ministries in handling the issues of governance in each ministries

01:11when the head of the unit is not from the SPRM. And the SPRM officers placed in the

01:18ministries are officers who have signed or are recognized as Certified Integrity Officers,

01:27CIO. These officers are placed according to their respective grades. And the implementation

01:34of the head of the Integrity Unit for each ministry will be carried out by the Public

01:39Prosecution Service. However, I think, if I'm not mistaken, more than 50% of the ministries

01:44where the head of the unit is from the SPRM officers themselves. And God willing, it will

01:50be carried out even more in 2025 and also in 2026. I have also made a visit of respect

01:59to the Minister of Housing and Local Government, KPKT, namely YB Ngakoming.

02:09In this discussion, we discussed how to implement or realize the desire of respect

02:19to YB Ngakoming to create a unique integrity unit for each ministry.

02:25Namely, there is a desire that there is a too small ministry that may not have the

02:32capacity to create their own unique integrity. And the result of the discussion has been

02:37agreed upon. As many as 62 PBTs have established their own UI or their own unique integrity.

02:44Especially large PBTs such as in BKL or in the form of Raya City.

02:51The second, 84 PBTs have appointed Liaison Officers or LOs, which I mentioned earlier,

02:58small PBTs or those who do not use the material to create their own unique integrity

03:04based on the existing staff.
