Transcript
00:00We're at Beaumier Heath C of E Primary School, just on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, and head teacher, what's your name?
00:05Sally Roberts.
00:06And just, what's so special about your school then Sally? What stands out? Give us a little run through.
00:12The children are what make Beaumier Heath. They are absolutely amazing.
00:16They are, their personalities shine through, they're characterful children,
00:21they embody all of our values as a school and our Christian values as well.
00:29Our main values are love, hope and respect and that shines through every child that walks through our door.
00:33And how long have you been here yourself?
00:35I started here in 2018 but I took over headship in September of last year.
00:40So students, you've had an awesome new timeline, it's just been feed hasn't it into your school?
00:45Yeah.
00:46And it's got the history from many many years ago right up to present day, what do you think of it?
00:52I like about it, I like all the amazing history and what date it tells you and I like all these interesting facts
01:02and it shows you where everything is and it tells you what periods.
01:08Yeah, any particular favourite little spots on the history board that you like or pictures? Yeah, go on.
01:14I like the old history of Europe and Anglo-Saxon.
01:19Anglo-Saxon, okay yeah. What about you young lady?
01:23I like Greek pottery.
01:27Ah, cool.
01:29And you've got a few interesting things, you've had a nice little certificate come through the post today,
01:34you're a Guinness World Record holder.
01:36Yes, we are officially a Guinness World Record holder for taking part in the largest poetry lesson
01:41across multiple venues back in October of last year and it was for World Poetry Day
01:48so we're very proud that we took part in that.
01:50Cool, and what's some of the stuff we're going to be seeing today?
01:52I understand we're going to be meeting some science ambassadors, is that right?
01:54Yes, we're going to be meeting our young science ambassadors,
01:56so those are children that have got a particular interest in science
02:00and they will be showcasing science across the school,
02:04they take part in lessons, go around all of the different age group lessons,
02:09they do investigations and experiments for the younger children
02:14and they talk through their science lessons as well.
02:16We're also huge STEM advocates here,
02:18we've taken part in a lot of STEM activity days,
02:22we've done a lot of online workshops,
02:24we've had a lot of ladies in STEM who work in STEM industries talking to the school as well
02:31because we're really, really trying to promote STEM for girls at school as well.
02:35For those that are in the know, just fill us in on what STEM is.
02:38So, it's Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
02:42I understand there might be a few musical instruments as we walk around,
02:45you've got, what's it called, a something buzz?
02:47Yes, so today we've got children having their P-Buzz lessons,
02:51which is almost a precursor to anything that you, like a woodwind instrument,
02:57it's all to do with the mouthpiece.
03:00So, they're all having their P-Buzz and then we've got our Year 5s and 6s having their Cornet lessons.
03:06One, two, three, four.
03:17What happened if you were going for four?
03:20Four! It was fantastic!
03:22And you'd like to put a little appeal out to the community,
03:25you've got some plans there, do you want to flash up the plans?
03:28So, this is for an area of your school that you'd like to improve, isn't it?
03:32Fill us in on what you'd like to do.
03:34So, outside the Key Stage 1 area is a little bit dismal at the moment,
03:38not very child-centred at the moment and we've got some beautiful plans.
03:44Unfortunately, they come with quite a hefty price tag,
03:47so we are looking for any businesses out there that would like to sponsor
03:51some of the items that we're hoping to have out there,
03:54or if anybody can make any donations towards the cost,
03:57that would be gratefully received.
03:59Great stuff.
04:00Well, we wish you good luck with that and we'll have a look around the school.
04:03Thank you, Sally.
04:04Miss, this is one of the nice colourful displays you've had as well,
04:07making learning very colourful.
04:09Absolutely.
04:10So, what's going on here then?
04:11So, a lot of children don't understand where Bohemia Heath sits in the world,
04:14so this hopefully shows us exactly where it is.
04:17So, you've got a lovely globe here showing where Great Britain is
04:20and obviously shows you what Great Britain actually looks like.
04:24You've got obviously the compass points on it
04:26and then we've got it as a stretched out map
04:28so you can see all of the tropics and caps there, Capricorn, the equator, etc,
04:33so you can see all of the different continents
04:35and then we can zoom in on Bohemia Heath
04:37and actually see what's in our locality as well
04:40and obviously lots of places that you can go and visit.
04:43So, we've got some budding scientists here, have we?
04:46Yeah.
04:47I'm science-y.
04:48You're science-y, cool.
04:50And whose favourite lesson is science?
04:54It's one of them.
04:55Yeah, wow, that's cool.
04:56Would you like to be a scientist when you're older then?
04:58Yeah, also a mathematician.
05:00Wow, okay, you've got some clever ones here.
05:02And what are you doing here?
05:04Are you learning about the body and about organs?
05:06No, we're learning about sounds.
05:10Sounds, ah, okay, interesting.
05:12And migrations.
