00:00School in focus time and we're here in Shrewsbury at Bowbrook School. Hello sir. Hiya, nice to see you.
00:04So you're head teacher? Yeah. How long you've been involved in it? It's a new school isn't it?
00:09It's a brand new school, opened September 2024. Yeah. Is that correct? Sorry, it's September 2023.
00:18Yeah. We're a year and a term old at the moment. Really exciting. Priding ourselves on being the
00:24School of Opportunity. So a lot of what we do is all about the enrichment for the children
00:28and the sort of visits and visitors and things that we can provide for them. So that's a key
00:33part of our curriculum. It's a really exciting time. We're growing from scratch. So we started
00:38off with 21 children in reception and just five in nursery and five members of staff. So we've
00:44quadrupled in terms of children and we're going to keep getting bigger, but we're still trying
00:47to maintain that community feel at the moment. So it's very exciting. I'm really proud of what
00:53we've managed to establish here and hopefully it's going to continue. And you've got some great
00:58rooms. We saw a treehouse in the library. That's a first for me. I mean, we're blessed with a lot
01:04of space. You know, we've got a dance studio, we've got a cookery room. We're looking at having
01:08a music room and IT suite. So we're very, very lucky at the moment. Now obviously that space,
01:13as the school gets bigger, that space will diminish, but we're looking at extending the
01:17building a little bit further. So yeah, it's really exciting times for us all. And a lovely
01:21sensory room. I nearly nodded off myself in there. That was fantastic. Yeah, it's nice. I mean,
01:26obviously it's the modern world now, isn't it? And we're looking to sort of mindfulness as a
01:30key part of the curriculum and that relaxation and yoga are sort of some of the things that we offer.
01:37And just remind me, what do you call the room we saw the kids with the blue blocks? What's that?
01:41That's in our dance studio. That's the imagination playground. Yeah. So that's a chance for the
01:46children to build and be physical. And a lot of the children love quite physical and active,
01:50and it's an opportunity for them to work up some bit of energy and bit of an appetite.
01:57So we've seen, we saw a visiting nurse. So that kind of filled in with the ethos of what you were
02:02saying. So we've got a nurse in today. We've had a doctor in, we've had a fireman in, you know,
02:08don't talk a little bit about people in our community. And it's about having role models
02:12for our children, which I think is really important. So we often have a lot of visitors in
02:17just trying to, like I said, trying to provide those role models.
02:20Great stuff. Well, thank you for letting us take a look around.
02:22Here in the cooking room, and who've we got? What's your name, young man?
02:25Parker.
02:25Parker. Great name. And who've we got with you, Parker? What's your name?
02:29Reuben.
02:30Parker, Reuben.
02:32And Debbie.
02:33And?
02:34Alma.
02:35Cool. So do you like cooking, guys?
02:37Yeah.
02:38Yeah. What's your favourite food? What do you like to eat the most? Go on, chicken.
02:42Cookies.
02:43Cookies. Good answer.
02:45Cookies.
02:46Cookies for you. What about you, mate?
02:48Cookies.
02:49Not cookies for you as well.
02:51Pancakes.
02:52Pancakes. That's good. What would you put on your pancake? A bit of chocolate sauce,
02:56bit of lemon? Yeah, a bit of everything. Good stuff. Thank you, guys. Well, enjoy your cooking lesson.
