00:00Joe, I think it was about two weeks ago, you came up to me and say, you know what, Bernie,
00:04February is absolutely loaded with storms and you don't have to, you don't have to go
00:11too far.
00:12Let's start with next week as we're tracking three.
00:15Yeah, I mean, Bernie, this is something that really we've been talking about since the
00:19middle of January and our long range team has said that February was going to be the
00:23stormy month.
00:24And we were talking about that back in September and our pre-winter meeting.
00:28So this is unfolding pretty much as expected in the stormy pattern for next week.
00:32There you can see it.
00:33The jet stream will take a bend across the western half of the U.S.
00:36There'll be one system in here.
00:38That's a midweek storm.
00:39This is the early week feature and there's going to be plenty of Arctic air to the north
00:43of it.
00:44So those are the factors that are in play.
00:46Here's the first system.
00:47We'll probably take a track from Texas east, northeastward like this.
00:50And with cold air in place, it looks like it's mostly snow for cities like Boston and
00:54New York City and maybe even Philadelphia.
00:57It could be one of your bigger events of the year so far.
00:59To the south, though, there'll probably be some freezing rain in Sleet and maybe Charleston,
01:03West Virginia and Richmond and maybe even in northern North Carolina and of course soaking
01:07rains across the south.
01:08And I'd be worried about some severe weather with that particular system as well.
01:12Oh, we're not done.
01:13There's another one that follows right on the heels of that one.
01:15Probably 24 hours later, tries to come a little bit farther north, tries to shove some of
01:19that cold air out of the way, which means an icy mix probably for the interior northeast.
01:24Probably snow across upstate New York and northern New England and back toward Detroit
01:27and Chicago.
01:28All right, Joe.
01:29So we have the storms.
01:31What else should we be looking for for next week?
01:35Well, there there's the three things that I mean, we've kind of just highlighted it.
01:38Snow and ice abound from the southern plain to the northeast.
01:41To the south of it, you're going to see rounds of rain and thunderstorms.
01:45And yeah, I think you've got to worry about at least some severe weather.
01:48I wouldn't call it a severe weather outbreak, but I think there's going to be some anywhere
01:51from east Texas over to portions of the southeast.
01:54And then, oh, by the way, we're not going to leave you alone in the west.
01:58You're going to get hit with a bigger storm in the west later next week.
02:01You know, the first two storms bypass California, but you know, Joe, they need rain in California.
02:08But unlike previous storms, which have targeted central and northern California, this storm
02:14seems to have its eye on SoCal.
02:16Yeah, it is.
02:17We've looked at things over the past 24 hours.
02:19I think that everything's coming together now to bring a storm system in sometime later
02:23Wednesday, Wednesday night and focused on Thursday, and that rain should get all the
02:27way down to southern California.
02:29There's a renewed risk for flooding with this all across the state, but in particular parts
02:33of central and southern California, heavy mountain snow.
02:35We could be measuring this in feet and of course, travel delays with that.
02:40Now with that storm, it changes the pattern, right?
02:43Yeah, it does.
02:44With the depth of that trough there, it's an amplified pattern.
02:47So the ridge starts to spring up in here.
02:49That storm system, when it comes around the bend, this time looks like it goes for the
02:53Great Lakes.
02:54Still arctic air on the northern side of it, so snow and ice in these places from the Dakotas
02:58over to parts of northern New England, but to the south you'll turn warmer.
03:01Florida's going to miss out on all this.
03:02They're going to see very little in their way of rain over the next week to 10 days.
03:07It's a frenzy February full of storms.
