New research by Nomo reveals that over half (55%) of Brits eat the same meals every week, with almost half (44%) admitting they’re bored of mealtimes. However, six in ten (63%) say they’re open to a flexitarian diet, and four in ten (43%) would try new recipes if they were easy to make. This February, celebrity chef Simon Rimmer is encouraging Brits to take part in “Flexi-Feb,” a simple challenge to add variety and excitement to their weekly meals by swapping meat and dairy for easy, plant-based alternatives. By reimagining classic dishes with fresh ingredients, Simon believes we can inspire creativity in the kitchen while supporting health goals – something nearly a quarter (23%) of Brits say would encourage them to try new meals.

00:00I'm part of a really lovely campaign with Nomo, the vegan chocolate brand, called Flexi Feb.
00:07And the idea behind Flexi Feb is saying, OK, look, even if you eat the same meals all the time,
00:12how about looking at swapping out certain ingredients from them?
00:16So say, for example, we tend to be quite meat and dairy heavy in the way that we eat in the UK.
00:21So what our campaign is saying is, well, how about you try and kind of cut out that meat?
00:26So I've looked at the 10 most popular dishes in the UK.
00:30So, OK, what could we do to kind of swap out some of those elements?
00:34So it's still a familiar taste, if you like, but a bit more exciting.
00:37I'll admit what I tend to do is I'll do a lot of different dishes,
00:41but they all seem to have the same ingredients.
00:42And I'm like, well, I've got that in the fridge.
00:44That's going to last me a week.
00:45So I was putting on like Italian, Spanish, whatever, same ingredients.
00:49Well, that's why the Flexi Feb campaign is a really good thing, you know,
00:53because I think it will say, OK, I don't know if I'm brave enough,
00:56competent enough of a store cupboard full of loads of different ingredients.
01:00It's saying, let's swap one or two things out of that,
01:04change the way that you approach it and see where it takes you.
01:07You embrace that small change and almost from that small change,
01:11then look at kind of bigger.
01:13Also, there's a certain amount of health goals as well from our Flexi Feb campaign.
01:17You know, as I said, we're very reliant on kind of meat and dairy products in the UK.
01:22So by dropping those out, it is actually good for your health.
01:25People who are considering making these sorts of changes,
01:28but they're not quite sure about taking that first step.
01:31What advice would you give them? Why should they do this?
01:34To stimulate your taste buds, I think is really important.
01:38I think you can look at health issues.
01:39I think we could always look at saying, OK,
01:41what can we do that actually makes this dish more healthy or more nutritionally rich?
01:46I'm never the biggest fan of the word healthy,
01:48but I think having things that are nutritionally high is a good thing for both mind and body.
01:53So I think that that's a good reason for doing it.
01:55And also because as human beings, we crave excitement.
