00:06Movie trailers have one job — to give audiences a little taste of a new movie, just enough
00:10to convince them to pay their hard-earned money to see it in theaters.
00:14Sometimes, studios go a little too far and give away a little too much.
00:17Some may even spoil the ending outright.
00:20Marvel Studios is usually the exception in this regard.
00:22In the past, they've gone to great lengths to avoid giving too many spoilers, even using
00:27CGI to hide characters, as they did for Spider-Man No Way Home.
00:30Surprisingly, though, it seems Marvel may have slipped up with the Super Bowl trailer
00:34for their second big release of 2025, Thunderbolts.
00:37The film is centered on a team of misfit antiheroes who are recruited by the enigmatic Valentina
00:42Allegra DeFontaine for a dangerous mission that somehow involves the super-powered Sentry.
00:47But early in the trailer — its first line, in fact — DeFontaine makes a declaration
00:51that could have huge implications for the future of the MCU, and possibly spoil Marvel's
00:56first film of 2025, Captain America Brave New World.
01:00Let's talk facts.
01:01The Avengers are not coming.
01:04First appearing in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the character of Valentina Allegra DeFontaine
01:08seems to be a new, darker version of Nick Fury, seeking to assemble a superhero team
01:13to serve the government.
01:14And that team appears to have no competition.
01:16Last time we saw them, in Avengers Endgame, the Avengers were indeed disbanded.
01:21But we also know that the entire plot of the upcoming Captain America Brave New World involves
01:25the newly-installed President Thaddeus Ross asking Sam Wilson to assemble a new team of
01:30Avengers.
01:31So if they aren't coming, as Valentina says, that would seem to suggest that Ross' plan
01:35to reform the team isn't successful — which may not be surprising, considering he turns
01:39into a rampaging red monster.
01:41But it does seem to confirm that Sam doesn't follow through with the plan after, presumably
01:45kicking the president's ass.
01:47Even if this Thunderbolts trailer line doesn't spoil the movie or muddy the Captain America
01:50marketing, it does lampshade one of the bigger gripes fans have had with the MCU post-Endgame.
01:55That being the complete lack of any Avengers team on screen for the last six years.
01:59We've introduced hero after hero on Disney+, sent Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange on
02:04Universe and Multiverse-spanning adventures.
02:06We've even brought multiple X-Men into the mix.
02:09Ms. Marvel and the new Hawkeye are actively trying to put a team together, too, and somehow
02:13no one's pulled it off.
02:15When you look at the series as a whole, the only Avengers movie that actually showed the
02:18team as a working team is the second one, Age of Ultron, no one's favorite MCU movie.
02:23Every other movie has been about the team coming together or falling apart.
02:27How are you supposed to rely on Earth's mightiest heroes when they spend most of their time
02:31not existing?
02:32Of course, that presumably won't be the case for much longer.
02:35Avengers Doomsday is absolutely 100% putting some version of the team on screen in 2026,
02:41and they may show up sooner than we're thinking.
02:43They may kind of already be here.
02:44After all, that asterisk in the Thunderbolts title is clearly pretty deliberate, almost
02:49like the name is a bit of a placeholder.
02:51Perhaps a placeholder for an all-new, all-different, somewhat dark Avengers, maybe.

02:59Tony sold Avengers Tower, relocating to a new facility upstate.
03:02Either way, we should start getting answers one way or another when Captain America Brave
