00:00This is an announcement to the public to be extra careful with their transactions because according to the Philippine National Police,
00:07they have already registered cases of scams when it comes to the hospital bill.
00:12This is the latest from the center of the news, Ryan Leziguez.
00:20The Philippine National Police and PNP are being careful with the public regarding the new mode of handling hospital billing scams.
00:27This is followed by the increase of the number of victims of hospital staff
00:32to relatives who are confined to hospitals.
00:36According to the PNP, the number of victims of hospital billing scams is now reaching 10.
00:41The PNP is now knowing how the scammers get the details of the patients,
00:47particularly the contact details of their victims.
00:50According to PNP spokesperson and PNO3 director, Police Brigadier General Gene Fajardo,
00:55this is the mode of handling hospital billing scams where they text the patient's relatives and introduce them to the hospital staff.
01:02They are saying that the victim must pay the hospital bill of his relative through e-wallet
01:09while promising to give them a big discount on the total bill that they will pay when the patient leaves the hospital.
01:17However, they will not be able to contact them if they give them money.
01:21They are saying that this is their existing hospital bills
01:26and they can help to lower their bills.
01:32However, there is a need for them to send an initial payment
01:37and that is what they will use to process their possible discount.
01:42There are already victims.
01:43Some were able to pay Php 100,000.
01:46Some were able to pay Php 77,000.
01:49One of the things that they are looking for is the possibility that there are scams in hospitals.
01:56According to Fajardo,
01:57despite the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group investigating the possibility of scams in hospitals,
02:04the scammers will not be able to get the contact number of the patient's relatives if there is no scams in the hospital.
02:11According to Fajardo, the hospitals will directly pay the billing section in order to avoid this type of modus.
02:18We know that criminals will always find ways.
02:21Maybe some of you might have been victimized
02:24that we are receiving offers and promos from unknown numbers.
02:29Maybe this is just random.
02:31But what is important is that we can determine that no one is giving contact numbers
02:37for purposes of deceiving these pitiful victims.
02:41From here in Kampuk Rame, Ryan Lisigas for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
