00:02Animal Welfare Charity, the RSPCA, has launched an investigation after dead puppies were found
00:09dumped in the lay-by of a busy road in the Peak District in two separate incidents.
00:14The RSPCA's field investigations team is liaising with police and local rangers after
00:19the remains of five small dogs, thought to be puppies, were discovered in two incidents,
00:25first in September 2024 and most recently at the end of January.
00:29RSPCA Inspector Laura Baker said,
00:33The RSPCA's ranger in the Eastern Moor area made the sad discoveries, first finding the
00:38remains of two dogs in bin bags in the undergrowth in September last year.
00:42Then, last month, they were shocked to find the skeletons of what they believe to be three
00:46further dogs, again wrapped in bin bags and left in the lay-by.
00:51Both discoveries were made in the same lay-by off the A612 between Owler Bar and Baslow
00:56in Chesterfield.
00:58Anyone who has any information about where these dogs may have come from, or who is responsible
01:02for dumping them, is asked to contact the RSPCA Appeal Line on 0300 123 8018.
01:14A Samaritan's charity shop in Chesterfield will serve its last customers next month.
01:18The store, which is located on West Bars opposite the Portland Hotel, is set to close
01:23its doors on Saturday, March 8th.
01:26Dave Maddox, Samaritan's Treasurer, explained that the difficult decision was being made
01:30after the store faced rising costs and lower town centre footfall.
01:34He added,
01:35We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all customers and volunteers who have supported
01:40our charity shop over the years.
01:42The generosity of local people helps us deliver our vital work at Chesterfield Samaritans and
01:47every year we support around 4,000 people by telephone, email, web chat and at local
01:53community events.
01:54We remain dedicated to delivering our vital work and ensuring fewer people die by suicide.
