00:00Global Markets Index provider MSCI has upgraded the UAE and Qatar's indices from frontier
00:16markets to emerging markets. As part of its semi-annual index review, nine companies in
00:21the UAE have been added to MSCI's benchmark Emerging Markets Index for the first time.
00:27These are Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Aldar Properties, Arab Tech, DP World, Dubai Financial
00:32Market, Dubai Islamic Bank, Emaar Properties, First Gulf Bank and the National Bank of Abu
00:37Dhabi.
00:38The UAE could host an India-Pakistan cricket series next year with two tests, three one-day
00:43internationals and two T20 matches. These would be part of a six-series agreement from
00:482015 to 2023. The Pakistan Cricket Board said it had a sign-in agreement with the Indian
00:54Cricket Board to play the six series.
00:57The weather in the UAE is likely to be rough this weekend with strong winds, cloudy conditions,
01:01a dip in temperature and light rain in some areas. Forecasters have warned motorists,
01:06fishermen and joyriders to be extra cautious as strong winds are likely to hit the country
01:10on Thursday night. Today's high across the UAE will be 33 degrees Celsius, dropping to
01:1528 degrees at night.
01:17Rescue teams have recovered eight more victims from a coal mine in western Turkey, raising
01:21the death toll to the country's worst mining disaster to 282. Even as hopes for 150 other
01:28trapped miners faded, Energy Minister Tanah Yildiz said rescue efforts were focusing on
01:32two areas inside the mine.
01:35Thailand's election commission said today it is highly unlikely that the country will
01:39be able to hold July 20 elections due to political unrest. The turmoil was highlighted today by
01:44protesters who forced the acting premier to flee a key poll planning meeting, an overnight
01:49violence that left three dead.
01:52In sport, Abu Dhabi-owned Manchester City crowned English Premier League champions take
01:56on Al Ain in an exhibition match before a sell-out crowd this evening. The match at
02:00the Hazar Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain kicks off at 7pm and will be telecast live on Abu
02:05Dhabi Sports.
02:07After lambasting Grace of Monaco for inaccurately portraying his late mother Princess Grace,
02:12Prince Albert put 560 kilometres between himself and the red carpet premier of the movie at
02:17the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday. Albert and Princess Charlene decided to go on an
02:22official visit to the French Auvergne regional town of Carleide.
