00:00Donate blood, save life.
00:10That is the campaign mantra of the blood donation and awareness campaign by Zuleka Hospital
00:15in Sharjah.
00:16The blood donation drive has been organized in association with the Sharjah Blood Transfusion
00:21and Research Center and the Ministry of Health.
00:24What we're doing is we're having the blood bank's mobile donation van come here.
00:30What we've done is we've sent out SMSs and reached out to our patient base requesting
00:37everybody to provide us, basically to donate blood.
00:43And what we've told the blood bank is we're going to tap into our entire patient base
00:46to do that.
00:47The activity was held inside a bus, which has been refurbished with state-of-the-art
00:51health care facilities specifically designed for bloodletting.
00:55Give people a chance, they know where Zuleka Hospital is, to come in and donate blood
01:01if they want to.
01:02Sometimes it may be difficult for them to find where the blood bank is, it may be difficult
01:06for them to go, but if they're just coming to the hospital anyway for a routine check-up
01:10or for whatever, they can come here, they can donate that blood, and that becomes so
01:14much easier.
01:15And they're fulfilling, I think, something they really want to do, which is be socially
01:19responsible.
01:20We all want to be socially responsible, but sometimes we find the logistics to be difficult.
01:26But this is just helping to make that easier.
01:28This is the first time that I'm donating blood in the UAE.
01:31I have donated earlier in India.
01:34I like donating blood because, I mean, our blood can save someone's life.
01:39So this is just a small thing, the small price that we are paying to save someone else from
01:44receiving our blood.
01:45Last year I tried to give the blood, but unfortunately I couldn't.
01:49This time I'm very happy to give the blood, and again, if required, I will definitely
01:53give it in the future.
01:54However, residents who have visited certain countries in East Asian Africa in the past
01:59year are not eligible to donate blood.
02:02The hospital says the blood collection process is conducted under expert supervision and
02:07hygienic conditions.
02:08This blood is screened extensively, and we feel very confident with the screening methodologies
02:14that have been used by the Sharjah Blood Bank, and we're happy to partner with them so
02:18that they can build up their bank and the amount of blood that they have, because that
02:23really helps us and everybody else around also.
02:26So that's been the thing that's motivated us.
02:30These days there's a lot of emphasis on corporate social responsibility, but I think this is
02:34an individual responsibility also that we all have.
02:37We all have friends, we all have relatives, and we ourselves could always need blood.
02:42All residents are encouraged to be part of the campaign.
02:46should not be fasting, must be between 18 to 65 years old, and weigh no less than 55 kilograms.
