00:00Good day. Welcome to the Gulf News update for Tuesday, March 29. Here are the top stories
00:07at this hour.
00:09The hijacker of an EgyptAir flight that was forced to land in Larnaca, Cyprus, was holding
00:14five non-Egyptians and eight airline staff hostage, an EgyptAir spokesperson has told
00:20Gulf News. There were 64 on board the hijacked plane, including 56 passengers, seven crew
00:27members and one security official. The majority of those on board were let go, except for
00:33the five non-Egyptians, after the flight landed in Cyprus. There are unconfirmed reports that
00:39the hijacker is armed, possibly with a suicide vest. EgyptAir flight 181 from Alexandria
00:46to Cairo was hijacked shortly after take-off.
00:50The FBI has unlocked the iPhone used by one of the San Bernardino terror attackers, ending
00:56a heated legal standoff with Apple that had pitted US authorities against Silicon Valley.
01:02Apple, backed by a broad coalition of technology giants like Google and Facebook, was fiercely
01:08opposed to assisting the US government in unlocking the iPhone on grounds it would have
01:13wide-reaching implications on digital security and privacy.
01:18Pakistan's under-fire head coach, Waqar Yunus, has submitted a damning report on the team's
01:24performances in some of recent series, including World 2020, to PCB chairman Shehryar Khan.
01:32Waqar has specifically pinpointed that some of the players are just not willing to work
01:37hard enough or cooperate with coaching staff, a source said.
01:42And finally, the weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 37 degrees Celsius, dropping
01:47to 23 degrees at night.
