00:00Good day.
00:03Welcome to the Gulf News Update for Monday, July the 4th.
00:06Here are the top stories at this hour.
00:08The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned Ethan Goldrich, deputy U.S. ambassador to
00:13the UAE, demanding clarification about Ohio police's arbitrary treatment of an Emirati
00:18citizen.
00:19Rawda al-Otaiba, director of the Department of the U.S. Affairs at the ministry, expressed
00:24the UAE's dissatisfaction with the way the Ohio police dealt with the UAE businessman
00:29Ahmed Al-Manhari.
00:30Al-Manhari was detained last Wednesday by armed police in front of a hotel in Avon after
00:35he was mistaken for a Daesh sympathizer.
00:38Goldrich has apologized over the incident and said the U.S. embassy would contact authorities
00:42in Ohio to clarify the circumstances.
00:44Ohio police and the mayor of Avon have also tendered an apology for mistreating Al-Manhari.
00:50Australia was facing a prolonged period of political instability as key independents
00:55who could determine the outcome of a cliffhanger election ruled out a deal with either of the
00:59major parties.
01:01The close vote leaves Conservative Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull chasing support from independent
01:06and minor parties to retain power.
01:08The opposition Labour Party was also courting a quartet of new potential independent power
01:13brokers and rumbling grew about Turnbull's future as leader of the centre-right coalition.
01:19Olivier Giroud scored twice to take man-of-the-match honours as France thrashed Iceland 5-2 last
01:25night to set up a Euro 2016 semi-final clash against world champions Germany.
01:31Giroud fired France ahead after just 12 minutes at a rain-drenched Stade de France.
01:37Iceland put on another never-say-die performance though.
01:40Colbein Siklorsson and Birkir Bjarnason managed to expose France's defence.
01:46Wales played Portugal on Wednesday in the other semi-final.
01:50Rebel brand Vetements sent fashion into a spin with a haute couture show that broke
01:54all the rules, appropriating clothes and shoes from 17 other brands and recutting them in
02:00its irreverent neo-Soviet street style.
02:03The most talked-about brand in fashion had been invited to show as a guest in the elite
02:07Uniquely Parisian events, but the result was an attention-hogging show that left few indifferent.
02:13And finally, weather.
02:14Today's high across the UAE will be 42 degrees Celsius, dropping to 28 degrees at
02:19night.
