Crawley MP Peter Lamb attended London Gatwick's Apprenticeship Fair this week. We asked him how life of an MP has been since July 2024 and what he and the Labour Government have achieved.
Transcript
00:00And you've been MP now since July last year. How do you feel it's going? What do you feel you and the Labour Party have achieved?
00:07I've been incredibly tired, Mark. You start off without an office, you start off without staff, you start with an inbox, so it's all cuts coming from day one, and you're absolutely hammered.
00:19The government has set out the most ambitious legislative agenda for this year that we've had since the last Labour government was in office, so we are absolutely getting pounded with it at Westminster
00:28with the amount of stuff we've got to get through. So I'm running my heels up. I'm hoping with recess coming up I'll be able to take a bit of a step back and look at some of the wider issues.
00:36The area has genuine challenges that we need to try and get more of a focus on, and I've been trying to get those meetings with ministers, and some of them I've already had.
00:42But at the moment it's very reactive dealing with the government's agenda and trying to make sure that the quality as an area gives the absolute best that it can out of what's coming forward.
