00:00Hi, my name is Matt Brown. I am a lecturer in marketing here at Middlesex University, Dubai.
00:05I teach here in the business school. Principally I teach first year marketing, digital marketing
00:10with our second years and I teach a lot on postgrad in terms of PR and crisis communication
00:17and strategic brand management. I find teaching much more rewarding. I mean I enjoyed previous
00:22roles but at the end of the day I was selling things to people and there's nothing wrong with
00:26that. People need to buy things but here I feel I'm actually genuinely improving someone's future
00:32and helping them to get the job they want or get onto the next qualification that they want
00:36and I find that much more rewarding than the sell used to be when I was in sales. So I'm able to
00:43take what I've learned in the real world into academia and bring both to life. So I think from
00:49both angles I make that much more attractive and appealing and I think the students respond to that.
00:54I think they like to have what can be occasionally dry theory being brought to life with a real story,
01:00real anecdote that shows how it applies in the real world. So I think what we'll be doing going
01:06forward is what we've talked about over the last couple of months, think smart, think differently.
01:10So we are in a different situation, we are still keen on delivering the degrees in the way that
01:16we always have and we're going to obviously take what we've learned from the Covid experience and
01:21the digital technology that we've used and embed them much much more in more of the traditional
01:26stuff that we would have taught beforehand. So we have an even better experience taking on board
01:32the best of the new and the best of what we've traditionally done very very well.
