A blistering 103 from Jos Buttler and a five-wicket haul by Yuzvendra Chahal helped Rajasthan Royals eke out a seven-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders in an IPL 2022 game at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Monday.

00:00Well, once again, a cracker of a game after what we saw yesterday.
00:03And like I always say, legs winners are match winners and you have to give it to Yujinder Chahal, who turned the match on his head and made RR win a match from a losing position.
00:14So, take a bow, Yujinder Chahal.
00:17Hello, everyone. This is the Straight Bad with Gulf News and Mr Cricket UAE and Anish Sajjan.
00:32We are here to discuss Rajasthan Royals' pulsating win over Calcutta Knight Riders.
00:38With me, I am joined by Satish and Mars of KKR and Rajasthan Royals fan Dilip Jain is also with us.
00:47Before we get into the match, I will ask Anish to give us a rundown of what has been a dramatic match today.
00:53Thank you, Shyam. Hi, Satish. Hello, Mars. And hello, Dilip bhai. And hello to all the lovely people of Gulf News.
01:00Well, once again, a cracker of a game after what we saw yesterday.
01:04And like I always say, legs winners are match winners and you have to give it to Yujinder Chahal, who turned the match on his head and made RR win a match from a losing position.
01:15So, take a bow, Yujinder Chahal.
01:18Satish, we all know, Chahal turned the match. But even then, the match was still not over, isn't it?
01:30Tummesh Yadav, that 20 runs of bold put them firmly back into the match.
01:34Absolutely, Shyam. Even there, I think KKR missed a trick there.
01:42After getting a wicket and Chahal bowling well, I think Shreyas Iyer could have played a little more sensibly instead of trying to go for that wild shot which got his wicket.
01:54I think he should have stayed at one end and made sure that even they could have brought in Cummins or Sheldon Jackson, one of them could have gone for it.
02:03I think that's where they missed the trick.
02:06But overall, yes, the match was not over until the last ball. Even that swing which this guy tried, if it had connected, maybe it would have been a six.
02:17So, it was not over until that ball as well.
02:20Tummesh Yadav had a wild swing as well, which if he had connected, probably things would have been different.
02:28Dilip Jain, I am sure you must be a very happy man today. Tell us about your feeling right now.
02:36Thank you very much for allowing me here. I am very happy today. Again, Rastan Goel has won the match.
02:46I think today's match was a complete package of entertainment.
02:50Mahesh, go ahead and tell us your emotions, especially through the last couple of overs, from 17 onwards.
02:59Definitely a heartbreak. Three consecutive losses and we are sitting somewhere in a not very good position at the table.
03:06Last few overs, I think it was a win for cricket, to be honest. As Mr. Dilip mentioned, it was an entertaining game.
03:15Very entertaining game. And it was on till the last ball that got Tummesh Yadav out.
03:21You are a very diplomatic man. I am sure if you are a fan, your heart must have been in your mouth.
03:29Yes, I am definitely coming to the critics.
03:31So, I think we will have to look ahead of Varun Chakravorty. He has not been giving us those wickets.
03:39He is leaking runs, a lot of runs and that's not what you want from your specialist spinner.
03:45So, I think we will have to look ahead of Varun Chakravorty.
03:47And even for a matter of fact, Venkatesh Iyer. I mean, good that we got him back to the position he bats for at Indian team.
03:55I hope we give him one more chance or maybe two more and see if he can do well in the middle order.
04:01But I think even for Venkatesh Iyer, it seems like it was a one-season start.
04:06And we are back to the problem we had last season of the powerplay bowling.
04:12We have not been able to get wickets in the last two matches in the powerplay.
04:16And Umesh Yadav is back to leaking runs.
04:19And Pat Cummins hasn't been giving us those wickets that he is supposed to as he is the world's best bowler.
04:28And for today's match, I think even though Umesh Yadav was striking well,
04:31it was Sheldon Jackson who had to keep his calm and get KKR over the line and win the match against KKR.
04:38So I think Sheldon Jackson is his domestic star.
04:41But for IPL, I don't know if he should be playing the next match.
04:47I think we didn't do so well with wicket keepers in the auction.
04:51We just have two options and Sheldon Jackson and Sam Billings.
04:54And the overseas quota is affecting us in that matter as well.
04:58So that is true for most teams.
05:01In fact, some of the teams have not been playing their full quota of overseas players.
05:06And where did that go wrong?
05:10Very honestly, game awareness.
05:11There is something called game awareness.
05:13When Finch and Shreyas Iyer were batting, they were going at probably more than the required run rate.
05:19And of course, one batsman had to take risks, which Finch was taking.
05:23And when he got out, the biggest culprit, first I would say is Nitish Rana.
05:27That was a long side of the boundary where he was trying to hit the six off Yujindra Chahal.
05:32He got away with a drop catch.
05:34He initially got a six.
05:35Then he got away with a drop chance.
05:37And then he again went for that.
05:39After that, again, when the Yujindra Chahal overcame, which turned the game,
05:46there was one mistake which KKR did.
05:48Was to send Andrew Russell ahead of the other batsmen.
05:52We all know Andrew Russell likes to pace on the ball.
05:54And he is a bit dicey against a googly or a leg spinner.
05:58And that's what happened.
05:59And when you see Andrew Russell in the dugout, the opposition feels very happy.
06:03And the team which loses Andrew Russell, loses its focus.
06:06I am not giving this as an excuse.
06:07All this might would have come good had Andrew Russell scored.
06:10But there is something called game awareness.
06:11And I could see Shreyas Iyer, when he went into the dugout,
06:14he had an argument with McCullum, if I am not wrong.
06:19About, I don't know what, it might be about Andrew Russell
06:21or it might be about keeping Pat Cummins after they sent Shivam Mavi.
06:25That was also boggling.
06:26But KKR lost this because of game awareness.
06:30And like Satish said, Iyer should have taken the game deep.
06:35When Umesh Yadav can hit big.
06:36This was a belter of a wicket.
06:38You couldn't lose this match.
06:39KKR have themselves to blame for this.
06:43Satish, Rajasthan was off to a flyer.
06:47Tell us something about batless innings.
06:50Wow.
06:50Shyam, he makes batting look so easy.
06:54As if his bat has got a magnet and the ball is just coming and striking his bat and going.
07:00He played it so easy.
07:02And he didn't even hit those shots.
07:05And I think that cool head and the way he batted made a lot of sense.
07:10And again, sorry, I am deviating here.
07:12One aspect I also wanted to add to what Anisbhai has said on Shreyas Iyer.
07:17Before Venkatesh Iyer got out, he screamed at Venkatesh Iyer for not taking the second run.
07:22The next ball, he lost his cool and he came out and he was the first one to give that wicket for Chahal.
07:27So I think that game awareness and the captaincy, I think he needs to be more mature.
07:32And coming back to Rajasthan.
07:35Now, after such a knock and you end up scoring 217 and you win by seven runs.
07:43I think Rajasthan needs to take a deep look at their strategy and the game.
07:48And they should have actually won it much better.
07:52In fact, it was Kolkata who gave away the match more than Rajasthan winning.
07:57Of course, nothing to take away the credit of Chahal.
08:00But I think apart from Butler, I would dread to think where Rajasthan would be.
08:08Dilip, do you agree with that?
08:10If it is not for Chahal, Rajasthan would have been in the woods.
08:14Because you come to think of it, they are a balanced side.
08:18But in terms of delivery, there is a problem.
08:20They have a good batting side, which has not been firing,
08:23which has been heavily reliant on Butler's performance and also bowling,
08:28which were completely dependent on Chahal for the wickets.
08:37Thank you, Isham.
08:38Rightly said, from the batting side, Rajasthan is mostly dependent on Josh Butler.
08:45If he is performing, we are winning most of the matches.
08:49And the bowling side, if Chahal is performing, we are winning most of the matches.
08:56So they need to look into the other areas, other players also,
09:01to look into the performance of the other players also.
09:05Because you cannot win all the time,
09:12relying on one player only, one or two players.
09:15So others need to perform.
09:17And Sanjay Simpson, we need to look into the resources available in the team.
09:24Maaz, you identified the problem areas of Kolkata as Venkatesh Iyer's lack of form
09:32and Varun Chakravorty not among the wickets.
09:35If these problems are solved, do you think Kolkata could turn around a corner?
09:41I mean, as we saw, it was a very close match today.
09:43I mean, we did have a last eight over for 18 runs.
09:47But you know, the two overs before that, the death over bowling was
09:51very good today by KKR.
09:53So I think, you know, the two overs from Varun Chakravorty that went for 30 runs,
09:57which made Shreyas Iyer go to Russell for the two overs to cover up for Varun Chakravorty's two overs.
10:03So I think if we get some bowler in place of Chakravorty,
10:06who completes his quota of four overs and doesn't leak much runs,
10:09even if he's not taking wickets, leaking runs is like Sunil Narayan,
10:14you see, has been very, very economical.
10:16He's a, he's a very good bowler.
10:19He's been like giving less than 25 runs in most of the matches.
10:24And on the other side, Varun Chakravorty is giving 30 plus runs
10:28and not even able to complete his quota of four overs.
10:30So that's one concern that I have.
10:33So I think if we fix that and maybe Iyer gets back into form
10:37or we look at someone else in that place,
10:40we will be good and be able to come back on track.
10:43Shyam, one bowler that Rasik Salam, the Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler, he did well.
10:49I don't know why they are not picking him.
10:51He got an injury. So he's out of the tournament for this.
10:54Oh, okay.
10:55I've already got a replacement and some Haryana bowler.
10:58Okay, okay. That's sad.
11:03Anish, just coming back to Trent Boult.
11:07Trent Boult has been very impressive with the Mumbai Indians,
11:10but he's not being his usual self with Rajasthan.
11:14What's happening there?
11:15To be very honest, bearing that one over against Umesh Yadav,
11:19which happens to the best of best bowlers.
11:21He bowled decently well in the start too.
11:24And you remember the way he got Rahul out
11:26and turned the match in the favor of his team.
11:29In fact, all fast bowlers have been leaking runs.
11:33So it's not only Trent Boult.
11:35Bearing Bumrah probably who had one bad match.
11:38All the bowlers have been going for runs.
11:40But having said that, RR as a team,
11:44they are good on one day.
11:45They are bad on the other day.
11:47But they have been defending more than chasing.
11:50Out of the seven matches, they have won four games.
11:53They have defended in three games, if I'm not wrong.
11:55Or probably all four games.
11:59All four games. They have not chased.
12:02But the fact remains that bowling is a concern in this IPL tournament.
12:06Naren is an exceptional.
12:08Who has just gone on five-and-a-half-overs for over.
12:10And you have to salute to him that in a team when they leak 218 runs,
12:14he just goes for five-and-a-half-overs.
12:16And like Mahat mentioned, the 18th and 19th over was critical.
12:19But again, the 20th over had to go for runs.
12:21Hetmeyer was batting.
12:23But bowling is a concern in this IPL.
12:27Satish, any final thoughts on today's match?
12:30Because we didn't know who was winning till the last wicket.
12:35Till the 19.4 overs, we didn't know who was going to win.
12:40I think the IPL is getting hotter and hotter.
12:44It's not just the points table.
12:46Even the performances, the results, everything is not going according to the script.
12:51And that's why I would say, it's competition.
12:53We'll talk about it.
12:54But it's becoming more difficult to even predict what will be the outcome of an over.
13:01Because four wickets in one over of a leg-spinner, you can't even think of it.
13:06Yes, a fast bowler has done it in the past.
13:09But hats off to Charles.
13:11But I think it's good.
13:13The IPL is living up to its expectations now, Shyam.
13:18You are bang on.
13:19The predictions are very, very hazardous in this tournament.
13:23Especially this ICIPL.
13:24That should not stop you from predicting the winner.
13:27And Anish will tell us why you should continue to predict.
13:32Yeah, Shyam, we have a competition every day on your favourite page, Gulf News.
13:36Log on to the page.
13:37Predict the winner, which is difficult.
13:39But if you're good enough, you might predict the right winner and walk away with a fantastic
13:43apparel kit, which is a track t-shirt and a cap.
13:46And also a Gulf News digital subscription for India.
13:51Thank you, Anish.
13:51But before we go, let's have our round of prediction for tomorrow's match.
13:55Tomorrow is Lucknow Supergiants facing Royal Challengers Bangalore.
14:01Satish, your pick?
14:03I would go with Royal Challengers Bangalore, Shyam.
14:06Why?
14:08They are in form, especially after where they were and coming on to win against Mumbai.
14:15And that would give them a lot of confidence.
14:17And almost all, except Kohli for that matter, all other batters are in form.
14:22The bowling is gelling as a good unit.
14:25I would go with...
14:28Because Lucknow is again heavily reliant on Rahul to shore them up.
14:32One batsman again.
14:34So I would go with RCB, which is a total package than a one-man team.
14:40Dilip, do you agree with Satish?
14:41Because RCB lost badly in the last match.
14:45Yes, I agree with him.
14:47And I believe this Bangalore is much better than Lucknow.
14:54And because they are having, I think, the proper mixer of the players, the in-form bowlers.
15:03And their batsmen are also performing well.
15:06All the batsmen, except you mentioned Virat Kohli.
15:09So I think they are a complete package of the team.
15:17Mahesh, that makes two of them backing RCB here.
15:22What about you?
15:23Are you going to make it three or are you going with Lucknow?
15:25Lucknow is a balanced side.
15:27Don't overlook that.
15:29Yeah, definitely Lucknow is a balanced side.
15:30But I would also go with Roy Challenge Bangalore.
15:33But I would not agree with them saying Kohli is not in form.
15:36It's been more of a bad luck for him to run outs and a great catch in one match.
15:43I beg to differ here.
15:45You don't run these non-existent singles if you are in mentally good space.
15:49Sorry, go ahead.
15:50That is pressure.
15:51Again, he is not in a good space of mind because of the recent developments in his
15:56cricketing career.
15:57But again, that wouldn't make him not being in a good form.
16:01Yes, not a good space of mind.
16:03And maybe that's also adding to the bad luck.
16:05But yeah, hopefully he comes back soon.
16:08And RCB is well on track for a playoff spot.
16:12Anish, I am sure you are not influenced by all these people.
16:15Tell us, who is your pick?
16:17I would definitely talk about Virat Kohli probably some other day.
16:21I will go with Lucknow just because RCB is depending a lot on DK.
16:29I would also go with Lucknow simply because I was trying to steer you guys towards Lucknow.
16:33Simply because if you look at the last match, Taipot Royal Challengers lost pretty badly.
16:40Not just that, they have been misfiring.
16:43Faf has not been firing.
16:46Kohli has not been firing.
16:47Finally, they are heavily dependent on DK to haul them out of the woods time and again.
16:52But how many times can you do it?
16:56Let's see whether DK is an abu-devil-ious mole.
17:01See, let's tune in tomorrow and find out.
17:04So that's it for today.
17:06Thank you for tuning in.
17:07Thank you all of you.
