00:00Police have been urged to track down the supplier of the gun used in the recent Setia Alam shooting,

00:07with crime analysts saying the incident again highlights the challenges authorities face

00:12in curbing illegal firearm possession.

00:16Criminologist Shahul Hamid Abdur Rahim said if the weapon was obtained through the black

00:20market, the police must investigate further to uncover the complex web of illegal firearm

00:26dealings linked to the suspect.

00:29He said this was crucial as other criminals may also have access to firearms through the

00:34same channels.

00:36He said once the gunman is arrested, police must determine whether the weapon was obtained

00:41through underground trade and if so, a thorough investigation is needed to trace the supply

00:46chain all the way to the supplier.

00:49Crime analyst Kamal Afandi Hashim said the smuggling of firearms remained a challenge

00:54across the world despite stringent border controls.

00:58He explained that firearms can be dismantled into several components and brought in bit

01:03by bit, making them even harder to detect.

01:06Meanwhile, security analyst Nirwandi Matnordin of University Technology Mara said shopping

01:12malls should have an internal intelligence team and equip high-risk areas with the latest

01:17security technology to detect suspicious behavior and alert security personnel.
