00:00The Philippine Men's Curling Team won the country's first gold medal in the 9th Asian Winter Games

00:07after competing against the Republic of Korea 5-3 in the finals of the Men's Curling Tournament

00:14on Friday in Harbin, China.

00:16That's what our teammate Daryl Oclares has to say.

00:22In the first ever Asian Winter Games,

00:25our flag was raised as the country's anthem was sung.

00:34This was after the Philippine Men's Curling Team won the country's first gold medal

00:40in the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China.

00:43In the finals game on Friday,

00:45Mark Pfister, Christian Haller, Enrico Pfister, Alan Frey, and Benjo de la Remente

00:52won the country's first gold medal in the Republic of Korea 5-3.

01:00This is crazy, isn't it?

01:02Philippines winning in curling is absolutely overwhelming.

01:06I think we don't realize it completely yet, but yeah, we made history today.

01:12We're so happy that we won the first gold medal for the Philippines.

01:17We're very happy to be part of history

01:20and I hope this is just the beginning of the development of curling in the Philippines.

01:27Frey and de la Remente added that this victory is a big deal

01:31to show that Filipinos can also take part in a winter sport like curling.

01:39What do you want more than an Asian Winter Games gold?

01:42I think this is the number one.

01:44An Olympic medal.

01:46That's what you want more.

01:48I think this is the perfect advertisement for curling.

01:51Filipinos are really good in sports like billiard, bowling, dart, and it's very similar.

01:57So I think Filipinos have a talent for that.

02:01We hope that this victory here in the Asian Games will spark,

02:08will give us some exposure and will help Filipinos know more about curling

02:14and hopefully other institutions and organizations will also see

02:18that there's a lot of potential for curling in the Philippines and for Filipinos.

02:22So hopefully we can also get our own facility in the Philippines.

02:26Meanwhile, de la Remente also thanked the President of Curling Winter Sports Association of the Philippines

02:33for the warm support of the Filipinos.

02:36Thank you very much for your support.
