00:00Essentially going into this season, one of the two Contreras brothers probably going to go in the top five as far as catchers are concerned.
00:07We'll get to Wilson Contreras here in just a minute because I do think he may be the most polarizing guy going into the year.
00:14And again, as we move forward, we'll get into that.
00:16But Cal Raleigh coming off a career season, William Contreras second, Sal Perez still good in fantasy and reality.
00:24You have Shea Lange-Aliers, Logan Ohapi, Yiner Diaz, first year with Houston, fantastic.
00:28Will Smith, Adley Rutschman, Stevenson, Connor Wong.
00:33And I want to make sure I mention my guy J.T. Rimuto.
00:36I know that he fell off a little bit last year. I don't want to completely discount him going into the season.
00:40So, George, a number of directions you could go here.
00:44And I guess we could kind of, you know, we probably should just open it up to ask.
00:47Let me ask you the question here is how much of this eligibility question with Wilson Contreras are you buying into?
00:53He's going pretty high in a lot of fantasy drafts because he's moving from catcher to first base.
00:58He's going to be a first baseman this year or DH, whatever they decide to do with him.
01:02And this is the final year that he'll have catcher eligibility.
01:05And I think because of that, he's jumped up a lot in draft.
01:09Yeah, I agree, because we think he's going to play more games, right?
01:12Most cats get one game off a week.
01:14There's 26 weeks in a baseball season.
01:16You do your quick math here.
01:17At most, he's playing 136.
01:19All right.
01:20Now we think Contreras could play more.
01:22All right.
01:23And he plays in a really good hitter's ballpark there.
01:25So I get it.
01:26I get it why he's bouncing up.
01:27Listen, I don't think he's a superstar.
01:29But as a catcher, yeah, you know, he could be extremely valuable.
01:33So I get it, you know, where you want to get them higher.
01:37Now, as a catcher, I think you and I are aligned here.
01:40I generally wait.
01:41They all – it's one of the toughest positions in sports to play.
01:46I mean, not only are you crouching a million times.
01:49I mean, you're crouching a million times during the heat of summer.
01:52You're wearing all that equipment.
01:53You're getting hit with foul balls.
01:55You're getting hit with bats.
01:56Runners are – I know they try to eliminate that, but runners going on.
01:59I mean, it's a brutal, brutal position.
02:01You're always getting nicked up somewhere.
02:03So that's why the offense generally deteriorates as the season goes on here.
02:07So I wait.
02:09I generally wait on a catcher unless, you know, someone falls.
02:11Like, oh, I can't believe he's still available on round seven.
02:14Then maybe I take one.
02:15But usually it's double digits for me, correct?
02:17I think, you know, I make fun of – well, not fun.
02:20I hate two-catcher leagues.
02:21I really don't think it should be.
02:22But I can find 12 catchers I can live with.
02:25Francisco Alvarez on the Mets is on this list here.
02:27He's ranked 12th.
02:29And I'm okay.
02:30Del Muto is 14th.
02:31Logan O'Hope is 15th.
02:32I'm okay with any of those.
02:33Austin Wells, I can live with what they can do.
02:36So I'm probably waiting on a catcher forever rather than spend a top pick on,
02:40you know, on Gutierrez, on Roachman, Will Smith, whoever it might be there.
02:44I'm going to wait a while here because I'm okay, you know,
02:47taking a catcher around 12, 13 that's going to hit me 25 home runs.
02:50It might hurt an average, you know, so I might have to –
02:53if you're playing in a categories league,
02:54that might be something I have to pick up because I'm waiting here.
02:57But I'm likely waiting in catchers.
02:59Do you think – look, Roachman was really good.
03:02He made 19 home runs, almost 80 runs driven in.
03:06Is there a thought process that Roachman is a next-step kind of guy,
03:11like there's more in there?
03:12There's 30 home runs as a catcher.
03:15There's 90 runs driven in.
03:17Is that the ceiling for him?
03:19I still feel like there's more there.
03:23He didn't do as well last year as was expected, right,
03:26especially with Gunnar Hennesen tearing it up in front of him.
03:28People thought he was going to have a much better season there.
03:31I think there is more, yeah.
03:33But another thing to keep in mind, once again, this goes more to dynasty leagues.
03:36One of the Baltimore's top prospects, another catcher.
03:40So Roachman could be another guy who sees himself being more of a first baseman
03:44in the future.
03:45This is something to keep in mind.
03:46It's not going to affect this season and probably not next season as far as
03:49catcher eligibility either.
03:51So it's more down the road here.
03:52But I think there is more to expect from Roachman.
03:55The problem is he's not going to drop because of it.
03:58He's still going to be a top three, top four catcher.
04:00He's probably going in single-digit rounds here.
04:02So you're not going to get a bargain for him.
04:04So I would like – because I do think he rebounded somewhat this year,
04:07but the price is going to be too high for me.
