00:00There's a new Republican candidate who's creating all the buzz in town, and that is 38-year-old
00:09Indian-American biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. Yes, the man who's being called
00:15a more extreme, younger version of Donald Trump is suddenly shooting up in polls after
00:20the first Republican presidential debate amongst Republican voters. And he's at number three
00:25in many of these polls now, and at number two in some others. He's still way behind
00:30Donald Trump, who is of course the real deal. But experts are now trying to understand what
00:34this means for the Republican campaign as they head into the presidential elections
00:39next year. Because as I said, Vivek Ramaswamy is a more extreme version of Donald Trump.
00:44He doesn't believe in climate change. He believes that there are only two genders. He's talked
00:49about cutting a deal with Vladimir Putin. He said that college admissions should be
00:54based on physical fitness tests. He's alluded to some kind of government involvement in
00:58the 9-11 terror attacks, which created a huge controversy in the U.S., amongst many, many
01:03other claims that he has made that have been fact-checked by the U.S. media and often found
01:07to be misleading or downright false. What it does tell us is that the core Republican
01:14base that is still with Donald Trump does actually seem to call shots within the Republican
01:19party. Because most of the other candidates haven't really been able to take on Trump.
01:24Some of them are embracing Trump, the way Vivek Ramaswamy is. Others are not really
01:29going all out to criticize him. But they're not really able to convince voters then why
01:33they should prefer them over Donald Trump. Experts also warn, however, that someone like
01:40Vivek Ramaswamy, who's trying to mimic Trump in so many ways, may not get very far. Because
01:45people have the real deal in Donald Trump. Why would they vote for a B version or a Trump-lite
01:51when they have Donald Trump himself? So the next few weeks and months are going to be
01:55interesting to see whether Vivek Ramaswamy actually lasts in the long haul.
